The New York Yankees are quiet in loss to the Minnesota Twins

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 6-1.  Jhonny Brito started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well, the bullpen wasn’t bad and the offense didn’t do much.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Brito pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with three walks and a strikeout and he took his second loss of the season.  Greg Weissert pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Albert Abreu pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout and Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning.  Jimmy Cordero pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Sonny Gray won his third game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and he walked two and struck out eight.  Griffin Jax pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Jovani Moran pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk.  LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a walk and Oswaldo Cabrera had an RBI.  Jose Trevino had a hit, Judge hit a double and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe committed an error. 

Max Kepler had three hits, Carlos Correa had a hit and an RBI and Jorge Polanco had two hits and three RBI.  Byron Buxton had an RBI, Trevor Larnach had a hit and drew two walks and Juan Miranda drew a walk.  Joey Gallo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Christian Vazquez drew a walk and Michael Taylor had two hits and drew a walk.  Polanco hit a double, Correa hit a triple and Gallo hit a homerun.  The Twins were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Taylor had a stolen base and Kepler was caught stealing.  Miranda committed an error. 

In the bottom of the third Polanco hit a two-run single giving the Twins a 2-0 lead.  Buxton hit an RBI groundout and the lead was pushed to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Gallo hit a solo homerun making it a 4-0 game.  In the bottom of the sixth Polanco hit an RBI double extending the lead to 5-0.  In the bottom of the eighth Correa hit an RBI triple and it was 6-0.  In the ninth Cabrera had an RBI groundout making it 6-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play on Tuesday night in game two of three.   

New York Yankees drop rubber game to the Toronto Blue Jays losing their first series of the year

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees and he was better but still not great.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with three hits. 

Schmidt pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three unearned runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  He took his second loss of the season, Michael King pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Ian Hamilton pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Kevin Gausman started for the Blue Jays and he pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and eleven strikeouts.  Gausman won his second game of the season.  Erik Swanson pitched an inning with a strikeout and Adam Cimber pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run. 

Anthony Rizzo had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and LeMahieu had three hits.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit, LeMahieu hit a double and Rizzo hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Kiner-Falefa had a stolen base and Volpe committed an error. 

Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and two RBI, Daulton Varsho had a hit and an RBI and Matt Chapman had two hits.  Alejandro Kirk drew a walk, Whit Merrifield had a hit and drew a walk and Danny Jansen had a hit and two RBI.  Kevin Kiermaier drew a walk, Chapman, Merrifield and Jansen each hit a double and Guerrero and Varsho each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the sixth Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homerun giving the Jays a 2-0 lead.  Varsho hit a solo homerun and it was 3-0 Jays.  In the seventh Jansen hit an RBI double extending the lead to 4-0.  In the ninth Jansen hit an RBI groundout pushing the lead to 5-0 and in the bottom of the ninth Rizzo hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 5-1 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost their first series of the year dropping two out of three and will now head to Minnesota to begin a three-game series on Monday night. 

New York Yankees win on a walk-off over the Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was good and Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Cole pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Ron Marinaccio pitched an inning with a walk, Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Wandy Peralta pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and tow runs with a walk.  Jimmy Cordero earned his first win of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both. 

Alek Manoah started for the Blue Jays and he pitched seven innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Yimi Garcia pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jordan Romano pitched giving up three hits and a run with a walk and he didn’t record an out.  Romano lost his first game of the season. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and two RBI, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and Torres had two hits.  Willie Calhoun drew a walk, DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit.  Oswald Peraza had a hit and drew a walk, Cabrera and Rizzo each hit a double and Volpe hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera and Peraza each had a stolen base. 

George Springer had a hit and a walk, Bo Bichette had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  Daulton Varsho had a hit, Alejandro Kirk had a hit and drew two walks and Danny Jansen had a hit and two RBI.  Whit Merrifield had a hit, Guerrero Jr., Kirk and Bichette each hit a double and Jansen hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Varsho had a stolen base and Springer was caught stealing.  Kirk committed an error. 

In the bottom of the eighth Volpe hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the top of the ninth Jansen hit a two-run homerun to tie the game.  In the bottom of the ninth LeMahieu hit a pinch hit walk-off RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-2 victory. 

The two teams will play game three the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
