The New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 2-0.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Jose Reyes had two hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with no walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the spring.  Fernando Salas pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits, Jerry Blevins pitched to two batters and retired them both and Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning. 

Reyes had two hits, Curtis Granderson had a hit and John Mora Jr. had a hit.  Lucas Duda drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk.  Rene Rivera drew a walk, the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Granderson was caught stealing, Rivera and Flores each committed an error and Mora had an outfield assist. 

In the fifth Reid Brignac hit an RBI single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead and in the eighth J.D. Davis hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 and that was the final score. 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he was ok and Luis Severino was very good.  The Yankees offense had nine hits but no player had more than a hit. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Dellin Betances pitched to two batters retiring them both and Severino picked up his second win of the spring pitching three innings and striking out five. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Matt Holliday had a hit and Abiaal Avelino had a hit.  Chris Carter had a hit, Wilken Castillo had a hit and an RBI and Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk.  Aaron Judge had a hit, Trey Amburgey had a hit and an RBI and Ruben Tejada had a hit.  Carter, Tejada and Castillo each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sanchez had a passed ball and Judge an outfield assist. 

In the second Freddy Galvis hit a two-run single to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.  In the third Gardner hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the ninth Castillo hit an RBI double to tie the game at two and Amburgey hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-2 walk-off win.

New York Mets lose to the Washington Nationals in pitching duel


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 1-0.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets only had four hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Gsellman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run with two walks and two strikeouts.  Gsellman lost his second game of the spring.  Josh Smoker pitched to two batters and retired them both, Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Ty Kelly had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Xorge Carrillo had a hit and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

In the third Anthony Rendon hit an RBI double to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead and that would be the only scoring in the game.   

New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays tie


The New York Yankees tied with the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida and the final score was 5-5 in nine innings.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and pitched well and Jacoby Ellsbury, Aaron Judge and Ronald Torreyes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  J.R. Graham pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and J.P. Feyereisen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Colten Brewer pitched an inning giving up a walk and Jason Gurka pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits, Dustin Fowler drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Clint Frazier had an RBI, Greg Bird had a hit and Ji-Man Choi drew a walk.  Chris Carter had a hit, Judge had two hits and an RBI and Torreyes had two hits and an RBI.  Pete Kozma drew a walk, Bird, Ellsbury, Hicks and Judge each hit a double.  Torreyes hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Fowler had two stolen bases and Wade had a stolen base.  Ellsbury and Torreyes were each caught stealing. 

In the second Jesus Sucre hit a sac fly to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Tim Beckham hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  Jake Bauers hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0 and Patrick Leonard hit an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.  In the sixth Hicks hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 5-1.  Judge hit an RBI double to make it a 5-2 game.  Torreyes hit a solo homerun to cut it to 5-3 in the seventh.  Frazier hit a sac fly still in the seventh and it was a 5-4 game.  The Yankees would tie the game in the ninth on a steal and throwing error.  The game would end in a 5-5 tie.   

New York Mets fall to the Miami Marlins in an offensive explosion


The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 15-9.  Steven Matz started and he wasn’t good.  Zach Wheeler wasn’t very good either.  Curtis Granderson led the offense with a couple of hits and five RBI. 

Matz pitched four innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him, Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with only one being earned.  He walked one and struck out one, Wheeler took his second loss of the spring pitching three innings and giving up four hits and four runs with three walks and a strikeout and Fernando Salas pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs. 

Jose Reyes had a hit and a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Granderson had two hits and five RBI, Desmond Lindsay had a hit and Neil Walker had two hits and two RBI.  Jay Bruce had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Travis d’Arnaud had two hits and Cabrera, Walker and d’Arnaud each hit a double.  Granderson hit two homeruns and Bruce hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Bruce had a stolen base and Cabrera and Cespedes each committed an error.  Carrillo had a passed ball. 

In the first Justin Bour hit into a double play and a run scored giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Yoenis Cespedes hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  Granderson hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.  In the second Matt den Dekker hit a two-run double to tie the game at three, Scott Copeland hit a sac bunt that gave the Marlins a 4-3 lead and J.T. Realmuto an RBI double giving them a 5-3 lead.  In the bottom of the second Granderson hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-4.  Walker hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 6-5 lead.  In the fifth Destin Hood reached on an error and the game was tied at six.  den Dekker hit a sac fly and the Marlins regained the lead at 7-6.  Ryan Jackson hit an RBI ground out to push the lead to 8-6 still in the fifth.  In the bottom of the fifth Bruce hit a solo homerun and the lead was cut to 8-7.  In the sixth Marcell Ozuna hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 9-7.  Granderson hit a two-run homerun in the sixth to tie the game at nine.  In the eighth Tyler Moore hit a solo homerun to give the Marlins back the lead at 10-9 and Ramon Cabrera hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 12-9.  In the ninth Moore hit a three-run homerun to make it a 15-9 game and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees defeat the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Florida and the final score was 7-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well.  Greg Bird led the offense with a couple of hits and five RBI. 

Tanaka pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out three and picked up his third win of the spring.  Jonathan Holder pitched to two batters and retired them both, Ernesto Frieri pitched an inning and struck out the side and Matt Marsh pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk.  Joe Mantiply pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Dustin Fowler had a hit, Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk and Bird had two hits and five RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit and drew a walk, Chris Carter drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and an RBI, Billy McKinney had a hit and Sanchez, McKinney and Tejada each hit a double.  Bird hit two homeruns and Headley hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the fourth Bird hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Bird hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the sixth Headley hit a solo homerun and the lead was pushed to 6-0.  Tejada hit an RBI double in the eighth and it was a 7-0 game.  In the bottom of the eighth Tyler Goeddel hit a sac fly and Daniel Nava hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the ninth Pedro Florimon hit a sac fly to make it a 7-3 game and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees lose to the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 4-2.  Bryan Mitchell started for the Yankees and he pitched pretty well.  Starlin Castro had two hits and Matt Holliday had two RBI to lead the offense. 

Mitchell pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Tommy Layne pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Luis Cessa took the loss pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a run with two walks.  Jon Niese pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a couple of strikeouts. 

Gary Sanchez had a hit, Castro had two hits and Holliday had a hit and two RBI.  Donovan Solano drew a walk, Castro hit a double and Holliday hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Fowler had a stolen base. 

In the third Mike Miller hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead and Sam Travis hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Holliday hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Travis hit an RBI ground out to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead and in the ninth Joseph Monge hit an RBI single to extend the Red Sox lead to 4-2 which would be the final score.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and the final score was 5-1.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Wilmer Flores led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Harvey lost his fourth game of the season pitching 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He struck out four batters.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Alberto Baldonado pitched an inning with a couple of walks and a strikeout. 

John Mora Jr. had a hit, Michael Conforto had a hit and Kevin Kaczmarski had a hit and an RBI.  Flores had two hits, Kaczmarski hit a triple and the Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Lagares committed an error. 

In the second James McCann hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Brendan Ryan hit a two-run single to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth JaCoby Jones hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.  Nicholas Castellanos hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the ninth Kaczmarski hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score.

Pineda pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Pineda picked up his third win of the spring.  J.R. Graham pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a walk, Green pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Ben Heller pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk.  Jonathan Holder pitched two perfect innings. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and two RBI, Dustin Fowler had an RBI and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Bird had two hits, Donovan Solano had a hit and Holliday had a hit and two RBI.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and McKinney had two hits.  Austin Romine had a hit, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and an RBI and Ruben Tejada had a hit.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and two RBI and Refsnyder, Bird and Torres each hit a double.  Holliday hit a homerun and the Yankees were 6-15 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner and Frazier each had a stolen base. 

In the second Refsnyder hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second still Torreyes hit an RBI single, Gardner hit a two-run single and it was 4-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the second Adam Eaton hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1 and Adam Lind hit a two-run double to cut it to 4-3.  In the fifth Holliday hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 6-3.  In the eighth Torres hit a two-run double making it 8-3 and Fowler hit a sac fly to complete the scoring at 9-3.

New York Mets lose to the Miami Marlins


The Miami Marlins defeated the New York Mets 7-5 on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 7-5.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He took the loss, his first of the spring.  David Roseboom pitched giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and didn’t record an out, Erik Goeddel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Rafael Montero pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out three.  Cory Burns pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Stuart had a hit and an RBI, Cabrera had two hits and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk.  Kaczmarski had a hit, Neil Walker drew a walk and Rodriguez drew a walk.  Lucas Duda had a hit, Oberste had a hit and an RBI and Travis d’Arnaud drew two walks.  Carrillo had an RBI, Taijeron had a hit and drew a walk and Ty Kelly had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Zabala drew a walk, Cabrera and Kaczmarski each hit a double.  Taijeron hit a triple and the Mets were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left 15 men on base.  Kelly, Montero and Rodriguez each committed an error.  d’Arnaud had a passed ball and Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

In the second Matt den Dekker hit a solo homerun to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Adeiny Hechavarria hit an RBI triple to extend the Marlins lead to 2-0.  Dee Gordon hit an RBI single still in the sixth to extend the lead to 3-0.   A stolen base an interference error led to another run and Dekker hit a solo homerun to make it a 5-0 game still in the sixth.  Brandon Barnes hit a two-run homerun and it was 7-0 Marlins.  In the ninth Oberste hit an RBI single to make it a 7-1 game and a fielding error made it 7-3.  Kelly hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-4.  Stuart hit an RBI single and it was 7-5 but that would be the final score.

The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 6-4.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and pitched well, Luis Severino did not out of the bullpen.  Clint Frazier and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Warren pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Ben Heller pitched to one batter and retired him, Severino pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he won the game.  Jason Gurka pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two and picked up his second save of the spring. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Frazier had two hits and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Ji-Man Choi drew a walk, Matt Holliday drew a walk and Rob Refsnyder had a hit and drew a walk.  Headley had two hits and two RBI, Donovan Solano drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Billy McKinney drew a walk, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Headley hit a double and the Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Headley, Torreyes, Frazier and Solano each had a stolen base. 

Castillo and Frazier each committed an error and Judge and Hicks each had an outfield assist. 

In the first Headley hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Colin Moran hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Headley stole home to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Yulieski Gurriel hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2 and Moran hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  In the bottom of the eighth J.D. Davis hit a sac fly to give the Astros a 4-3 lead.  In the ninth a wild pitch scored two runs and gave the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  A stolen base and throwing error led to another run in the ninth to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead and that would be the final score.

The New York Mets defeat the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 5-4.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Kevin Plawecki had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter giving up a walk and a run, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.   Ben Rowen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Corey Taylor pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he picked up his fourth save of the spring. 

Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit and Wilmer Flores had an RBI and drew a walk.  Gavin Cecchini had a hit, Luis Carpio had a hit and Plawecki had two hits and an RBI.  Xorge Carrillo had a hit and an RBI, Tim Tebow had a hit and Matt Reynolds had an RBI.  Andres Gimenez had a hit, Taijereon had a hit and Carpio and Carrillo each hit a double.  Conforto  hit a triple and Lagares and Plawecki each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Yoenis Cespedes and L.J. Mazzilli each committed an error and Plawecki had a passed ball. 

In the first Randal Grichuk hit an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the second Reynolds hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the third Lagares hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead, Flores hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Plawecki hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Harrison Bader hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.  A wild pitch in the eighth made it 4-3 and Patrick Wisdom hit a sac fly to tie the game at four.  In the ninth Carrillo hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 5-4 lead and that was the final score.
