New York Yankees rout the Anaheim Angels

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-1.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and pitched well and Jose Trevino paced the offense with three hits. 

Montgomery pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts and he won his first game of the season.  Miguel Castro pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and David McKay pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked two. 

Noah Syndergaard started for the Angels and lost his third game of the season.  He pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk.  Kenny Rosenberg pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts and Archie Bradley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

DJ LeMahieu had tow hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had an RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had an RBI and drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres had two hits and an RBI, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Matt Carpenter had a hit and two RBI.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit, Trevino had three hits and two RBI and Joey Gallo had two hits and drew a walk.  Rizzo, Torres, LeMahieu and Gallo each hit a double.  Carpenter and Trevino each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Andujar had a stolen base and Torres was caught stealing.  Trevino had a pickoff. 

Shohei Ohtani had a hit, Matt Duffy had a hit and drew a walk and Luis Rengifo had a hit and an RBI.  Max Stassi drew a walk, Jared Walsh had two hits and Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk.  Andrew Velazquez had a hit, Ohtani and Lagares each hit a double and Rengifo hit a homerun.  The Angels were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Walsh and Velasquez each had a stolen base and Duffy was picked off.  Lagares had an outfield assist. 

In the first Rizzo hit an RBI double, Torres hit an RBI double and Carpenter hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second LeMahieu hit an RBI double to push the lead to 5-0.  In the bottom of the sixth LeMahieu reached on a fielder’s choice making it 6-0.  Judge hit a sac fly and the lead was extended to 7-0.  In the seventh Rengifo hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 7-1 and in the bottom of the eighth Trevino hit a two-run homerun making it 9-1 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.   

New York Yankees fall to Tampa Bay to split four game series

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.  The game took place at

Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-2.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits. 

Severino pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Ron Marinaccio pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one and Clarke Schmidt pitched a perfect inning. 

Shane McClanahan started for the Rays and he pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with no walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his fifth game of the season, Jason Adam pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Colin Poche pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and J.P. Feyereisen pitched a perfect inning.  Feyereisen saved his first game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI and Torres had three hits and an RBI.  Miguel Andujar had two hits, Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit and Torres and Judge each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Torres had a stolen base. 

Wander Franco drew a walk, Ji Man-Choi had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Taylor Walls had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Harold Ramirez had an RBI and drew a walk, Mike Zunino had an RBI and Choi and Walls each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Diaz committed an error. 

In the second Torres hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Choi hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the fifth Walls hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Ramirez had an RBI walk pushing the lead to 3-1 and Zunino was hit by a pitch and a run scored making it 4-1.  In the eighth Judge hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the four game series and the Yankees will have an off day on Monday and head home to begin a three-game series with the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees get beat in Tampa Bay

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 3-1.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen wasn’t great.  The offense only managed four hits. 

Cole pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and ten strikeouts.  Lucas Luetge pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and took his second loss of the season and Michael King pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run. 

Corey Kluber started for the Rays and he pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with five strikeouts.  J.P. Feyereisen won his fourth game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Jason Adam pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Colin Poche pitched a perfect inning and picked up his second save of the season.

Yandy Diaz had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Ji-Man Choi drew a walk and Wander Franco had a hit and drew a walk.  Randy Arozarena had a hit and an RBI, Manuel Margot had a hit and an RBI and Kevin Kiermaier had a hit.  Francisco Mejia had two hits including a double and Franco hit a triple.  The Rays were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Phillips had an outfield assist. 

In the first Rizzo hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Arozarena hit an RBI single tying the score at one.  In the bottom of the seventh Diaz hit an RBI single giving the Rays a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Margot hit an RBI single extending the Rays lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game, the rubber game on Sunday.  The Yankees have won two of the first three.
