The New York Yankees drop second straight to the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3 Indians.  Masahiro Tanaka started and he pitched pretty well.  The game got away from the Yankees late and the offense didn't do much and then tried to rally late.

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his sixth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Nick Rumbelow pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with two strikeouts. 

Carlos Carrasco won his 12th game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and 11 strikeouts.  Kyle Crockett pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Zach McAllister pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run and Cody Allen saved his 25th game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.  Stephen Drew had a hit, Beltran hit a double and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Ryan committed an error. 

Jeff Kipnis had a hit, Francisco Lindor had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Michael Brantley had two hits and two RBI.  Carlos Santana had a hit and two RBI, Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit and Jerry Sands had a hit and an RBI.  Yan Gomes had a hit, Abraham Almonte had a hit and Jose Ramirez had three hits and drew a walk.  Chisenhall, Kipnis and Sands each hit a double and Ramirez hit a triple.  Santana hit a homerun and the Indians were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ramirez commited an error. 

In the third Lindor hit an RBI single to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  Bird hit an RBI single to tie the game at one in the fourth.  Lindor reached on a Ryan fielding error in the fifth and it made it a 2-1 game.  In the sixth Santana hit a solo homerun to increase the Indians lead to 3-1.  Brantley hit an RBI single in the seventh to extend the lead to 4-1.  Rodriguez hit an RBI single and Bird reached on a fielding error and another run scored to make it a 4-3 game in the eight.  In the ninth the Indians broke it open with three runs.  Brantley hit an RBI single, Santana grounded into a force out and a run scored and Sands hit an RBI double.  The final score was 7-3 Indians and they have won the first two games of the series.

The New York Yankees fall short in comeback attempt to the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Ivan Nova started and was very shaky, the bullpen was good tossing four shutout innings.  The offense didn't do much other then Alex Rodriguez homerun and Carlos Beltran RBI single. 

Nova pitched five innings giving up three runs on six hits, he walked two and struck out four and lost his fifth game of the season.  Adam Warren gave up one hit in two scoreless innings and struck out two batters and Chris Capuano pitched two scoreless innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Josh Tomlin pitched seven innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts and won his first game of the season.  Bryan Shaw pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and picked up his 24th save of the season. 

Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI, Beltran had a hit and an RBI and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and drew two walks and Headley hit a double.  Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

In the second Chisenhall hit an RBI double to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  In the third Brantley hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Indians.  Ramirez hit an RBI single to increase the Indians lead to 3-0.   In the fourth Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 Indians.  In the ninth Beltran hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 but that would be how the game ended.  The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night. 

The New York Mets lose to the Baltimore Orioles on a walk-off homerun



The New York Mets were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 5-4 Orioles.  Noah Syndergaard started and struggled a little bit.  Daniel Murphy and Wilmer Flores each had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched five innings giving up eight hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out six.  Logan Verrett pitched a perfect inning, Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Carlos Torres lost his fifth game of the season giving up a hit and a run without recording an out. 

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Mychal Givens pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Brian Matusz pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Darren O'Day pitched to two batters retiring them both and one was a strikeout.  Zach Britton won his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Murphy had two hits and two RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Uribe drew a walk and Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk.  Michael Conforto drew a walk, Michael Cuddyer had a hit and Flores had two hits and two RBI.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Granderson and Duda each hit a double.  Murphy and Flores each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cespedes had a stolen base and Duda was caught stealing. 

Manny Machado had two hits, Gerardo Parra had a hit and Adam Jones had two  hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Davis had a hit and drew a walk, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and two RBI and Steve Clevenger had two hits and an RBI.  Henry Urrutia had a hit and an RBI, Machado, Jones and Davis each hit a double and Schoop, Jones and Urrutia each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Parra, Davis and Machado each had a stolen base. 

In the first Murphy hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Flores hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Clevenger hit an RBI single to make it a 2-1 game and in the fifth Murphy hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Schoop tied the game at three with a two run homerun.  Flores hit a solo homerun in the seventh to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.  Jones tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun to make it 4-4.  Urrutia hit a solo homerun in the ninth to win the game 5-4 for the Orioles.  The two teams split the two game series and the Mets will have off on Thursday before beginning a three game series in Colorado.

The New York Yankees finish off the sweep of the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3 Yankees.  Nathan Eovaldi started and pitched pretty well for the Yankees.  Greg Bird led the offense with two homeruns. 

Eovaldi pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out eight and won his 13th game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Ervin Santana pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Santana lost his fourth game of the season and Trevor May struck out the only batter that he faced. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk.  Bird had two hits and four RBI, Chase Headley had two hits and Stephen Drew had a hit.  Headley hit a double and Bird hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Brian Dozier drew a walk, Joe Mauer had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Sano drew a walk.  Trevor Plouffe had a hit and an RBI, Chris Herrmann had a hit and Shane Robinson had a hit.  The Twins were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the fourth Bird hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead and in the sixth the Twins tied it on a two run single by Mauer.  Plouffe hit an RBI single to give them a 3-2 lead in the sixth and in the bottom of the sixth Bird hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead which would be the final score.  The Yankees swept the three game series and will begin a four game series at home against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night. 

The New York Mets end losing skid with a victory in Baltimore



The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 5-3 Mets.  Jacob deGrom started for the MEts and pitched well.  Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  He won his 12th game of the season.  Tyler Clippard pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout. 

Kevin Gausman pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  T.J. McFarland pitched an inning giving up a  hit and a walk with a strikeout, Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned and he struck out a batter and Brad Brach pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Granderson had two hits and two RBI with a walk, Murphy had two hits and two RBI and Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk.  Lucas Duda had a hit, Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk and Michael Cuddyer had a hit.  Michael Conforto had a hit, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Murphy hit two doubles.  Granderson hit two homeruns and the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Conforto had an outfield assist.

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Murphy hit an RBI double to extend the Mets lead to 2-0.  Granderson hit another solo homerun and it was 3-0 Mets in the fifth inning.  Parra hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the ninth Murphy hit a sac fly and it was 4-1 Mets.  A wild pitch made it 5-1 and in the bottom of the ninth an RBI walk by Hardy and Urrutia made it a 5-3 game but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the second and final game of the brief series on Wednesday night. 

The New York Yankees comeback for a thrilling win over the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-4 Yankees.  CC Sabathia started and pitched ok, Andrew Miller was great out of the pen.  Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam to propel the Yankees and Greg Bird, Chase Headley, Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. 

Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.  Nick Rumbelow won his first major league game by pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Justin Wilson pitched to two batters and retired them both and Andrew Miller pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and earned his 27th save of the season. 

Mike Pelfrey pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, J.R. Graham pitched an inning giving up five hits and four runs with a strikeout and A.J. Achter pitched to two batters retiring them both and had one strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Rodriguez had a hit and four RBI.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Beltran had two hits and Bird had two hits and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Headley had two hits and two RBI and Brendan Ryan drew a walk.  Ellsbury, Beltran and Headley each hit a double and Rodriguez hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Joe Mauer drew a walk, Miguel Sano had a hit and two RBI and Trevor Plouffe drew a walk.  Eduardo Escobar had three hits, Kurt Suzuki had two hits and an RBI and Shane Robinson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Suzuki and Escobar each hit a double and Sano hit a homerun.  The Twins were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the fourth Bird hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Suzuki hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Sano hit a two run homerun and it was 3-1 Twins.  Robinson hit an RBI single to push the Twins lead to 4-1.  In the seventh Rodriguez hit a grand-slam to make it 5-4 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Headley hit a two run double to make it 7-4 Yankees and Ellsbury hit an RBI single to make it 8-4 Yankees which was the final score.  The Yankees will look for the three game sweep on Wednesday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins in extra innings



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-7 in ten innings.  Bryan Mitchell started for the Yankees but in the second inning was hit in the face by a line drive and had to leave the game, the Yankees used their entire bullpen to get through the game.  Jacoby Ellsbury and Brian McCann each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Mitchell pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two strikeouts.  Caleb Cotham pitched two innings giving up six hits and four runs with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts and Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with three strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Dellin Betances pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Andrew Miller earned his first win of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Kyle Gibson pitched five innings giving up four hits and six runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Brian Duensing pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Ryan O'Rourke gave up two hits without recording an out and Casey Fien pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out two.  Kevin Jepsen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Glen Perkins took his fourth loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Ellsbury had three hits, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Greg Bird had a hit and drew a  walk and  McCann had three hits and five RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Bird and McCann each hit a double.  McCann and Beltran each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rodriguez had a stolen base and Gregorius committed an error. 

Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI, Brian Dozier had three hits and Joe Mauer had a hit.  Miguel Sano had three hits and two RBI, Trevor Plouffe had three hits and two RBI and Torii Hunter had a hit.  Eddie Rosario had two hits and an RBI.  Kurt Suzuki had a hit and drew a walk, Eduardo Nunez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Sano, Hicks and Plouffe each hit a homerun.  The Twins were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Dozier and Nunez each had a stolen base and Dozier, Hunter and Nunez were each caught stealing.  Plouffe committed an error and Rosario had an outfield assist.

The Yankees scored three in the first on a McCann three run homerun.  Nunez hit an RBI single in the second to make it a 3-1 game.  In the third Sano hit a two run homerun to tie the game at three.  Rosario hit an RBI single and it was 4-3 Twins.  In the third McCann hit a two run single to make it 5-4 Yankees.  In the fourth Hicks hit a solo homerun to tie the game at five.  In the fifth Plouffe hit a solo homerun to make it 6-5 Twins and in the sixth he hit an RBI single to make it 7-5.  Beltran hit a two run homerun in the sixth to tie the game at seven.  In the tenth Headley hit an RBI groundout for the 8-7 walk-off win for the Yankees.  The Yankees have now won three of their last four games.  They will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets are swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates


The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 8-1 Pirates.  Matt Harvey started and pitched ok for the Mets.  The Mets bullpen was not good at all and the offense didn't do too much. 
Harvey pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Bobby Parnell took his third loss of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two of the runs being earned.  He walked two, Eric O'Flaherty pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run and Carlos Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts. 
Jeff Locke pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Arquimedes Caminero won his fourth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and struck out one, Antonio Bastardo pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts and Joakim Soria pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 
Juan Lagares had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had two hits and an RBI, Ruben Tejada drew a walk and d'Arnaud hit a double.  d'Arnaud hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Parnell committed an error and d'Arnaud had a passed ball. 
Gregory Polanco had two hits and an RBI, Starling Marte had two hits and an RBI and Neil Walker had a hit and drew two walks.  Aramis Ramirez had four hits and three RBI, Pedro Alvarez had two hits and two RBI, and Andrew McCutchen drew a walk.  Travis Ishikawa had two hits, Chris Stewart had a hit and Pedro Florimon drew two walks.  Sean Rodriguez had a hit, Walker, Rodriguez and Ramirez each hit a double and Marte and Polanco each hit a triple.  Alvarez hit a homerun and the Pirates were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 
In the second Alvarez hit a solo homerun to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the second d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Polanco hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Pirates.  A passed ball made it 3-1, Ramirez hit an RBI single to make it 4-1 and Alvarez hit an RBI single to push the Pirates lead to 5-1.  In the eighth Marte hit an RBI single and it was 6-1 Pirates.  Ramirez hit a two run double to make it 8-1 and that would be the final score.  The Mets were swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the three game series.  The Mets will be off on Monday and play a brief two game series in Baltimore starting on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets lose in extra innings to the Pittsburgh Pirates



The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-3 in 14 innings.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched ok and the bullpen was good until the 14th inning.  Yoenis Cespedes and Ruben Tejada each had two hits. 

Niese pitched six innings giving up five hits nad three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out a batter.  Hansel Robles pitched three innings giving up a hit and a walk and struck out three, Sean Gilmartin lost his first game of the season pitching two innings giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Charlie Morton pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out nine, Joakim Soria pitched to two batters and retired them both, Tony Watson pitched a perfect inning and Arquimedes Caminero pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Jared Hughes pitched an inning giving up a hit, Joe Blanton won his fourth game of the season pitching three innings and giving up a hit and a walk with six strikeouts and Mark Melancon saved his 37th game of the season.  Melancon pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Cespedes had two hits, Juan Uribe had a hit and an RBI and Kelly Johnson had a hit and drew a walk.  Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk, Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Johnson hit a double, Uribe and Conforto each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Cespedes had a stolen base, Johnson committed an error and Cespedes had an outfield assist. Niese had a pickoff. 

Gregory Polanco had three hits and an RBI, Jung Ho Kang had a hit and Andrew McCutchen drew a walk.  Aramis Ramirez had a hit and two RBI, Francisco Cervelli had two hits and drew a walk and Michael Morse drew a walk.  Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI, Sean Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI and Cervelli and Rodriguez hit a double.  Ramirez and Polanco hit a homerun and the Pirates were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Polanco was caught stealing, Kang was caught stealing and Rodriguez was caught stealing.  Cervelli and Ramirez each committed an error. 

In the first Ramirez hit a two run homerun to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.  In the third Polanco hit a solo homerun to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.  In the seventh Uribe hit a solo homerun, Conforto hit a two run homerun and the game was tied at three.  In the 14th Stewart hit an RBI single to make it 4-3 Pirates and Rodriguez hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 which was the final score.  The Pirates have won the first two games of the series and will look to sweep on Sunday afternoon. 

New York Yankees fail to sweep the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 3-1 Toronto.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and pitched well.  The offense didn't do too much at all, Jacoby Ellsbury had a couple of hits. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up three runs and five hits.  He walked three and struck out nine and lost his second game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and drew a walk and Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and struck out three. 

Drew Hutchison won his 12th game of the season.  He pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Brett Cecil pitched to one batter and retired him, Aaron Sanchez pitched an inning striking out one and Roberto Osuna saved his 13th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and struck out one. 

Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, McCann hit a double and Ellsbury hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Ellsbury was caught stealing and had an outfield assist. Troy Tulowitzki had a hit, Josh Donaldson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Bautista had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Edward Encarnacion had a hit, Justin Smoak had a hit and Russell Martin drew a walk.  Ryan Goins had a hit and drew a walk, Kevin Pillar had a hit and Tulowitzki hit a double and Bautista hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bautista was picked off. 

In the third Donaldson hit an RBI single to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Bautista hit a two run homerun to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth Ellsbury hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees won two out of three in the series and competed their six game road trip at 3-3.  They will begin a ten game homestand on Monday night against the Minnesota Twins. 

The New York Yankees win their second in a row in Toronto



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 4-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched well, saving the bullpen by pitching a complete game.  Jacoby Ellsbury, Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltran led the offense with two hits each. 

Tanaka pitched a complete game giving up five hits and a run.  He walked three and struck out eight and won his ninth game of the season. 

Marco Estrada lost his seventh game of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Mark Lowe pitched an inning giving up a hit, LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts and Aaron Loup pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run.  Liam Hendricks pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Beltran had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Chris Young drew a walk.  Teixeira had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley drew a walk and Greg Bird picked up his first major league hit.  John Ryan Murphy had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Beltran and Murphy each hit a double.  Ellsbury hit a triple and Teixeira and Beltran each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base.

In the first Beltran hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Donaldson hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  Teixeira hit a solo homerun in the sixth to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the eighth Teixeira hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the ninth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to make it 4-1 Yankees and that would be the final score.  The Yankees have won the first two games of the series and will try to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon.
