New York Yankees lose to the Houston Astros as tying run gets thrown out at plate to end game


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees only had seven hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Pineda pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Pineda lost his second game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks, Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Dallas Keuchel won his sixth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and an unearned run.  He walked one and struck out nine.  Chris Devenski pitched two innings giving up two walks and four strikeouts and Ken Giles saved his tenth game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Aaron Hicks drew three walks and Chris Carter had a hit.   The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Hicks, Judge and Ellsbury each had a stolen base. 

George Springer had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Reddick had a hit and Jose Altuve had a hit.  Carlos Correa had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Brian McCann drew a walk and Alex Bregman had two hits.  Norichika Aoki had a hit, Jake Marisnick had a hit and Reddick, Bregman, Altuve and Aoki each hit a double.  Correa hit a homerun and the Astros were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Aoki and Marisnick each had a stolen base.  Gurriel and McCann each committed an error and Marisnick had an outfield assist. 

Correa hit a two-run homerun in the first to give the Astros a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Springer hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Ellsbury reached on a catcher interference and a run scored to make it a 3-1 game.  In the ninth Sanchez hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 and Ellsbury got thrown out at the plate to end the game.  3-2 was the final score and the two teams will play game two of four on Friday night. 

New York Mets lose to the San Francisco Giants


The New York Mets were defeated by the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Tommy Milone started for the Mets and he pitched pretty well.  The Mets bullpen was very good except for their closer.  Wilmer Flores led the offense with three hits and two RBI. 

Milone pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Fernando Salas pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him and Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him and Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked two and blew his first save and took his first loss of the season.  Rafael Montero pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one. 

Matt Cain pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out three.  George Kontos pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he walked one and struck out three, Steven Okert pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and Bryan Morris pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit.  Morris picked up his first win of the season and Derek Law pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout and he saved his second game of the season. 

Jose Reyes drew a walk, T.J. Rivera had a hit and Jay Bruce had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Neil Walker had a hit, and drew a walk, Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI and Flores had three hits and two RBI.  Kevin Plawecki drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and Milone had a hit and an RBI.  Michael Conforto had a hit, Granderson and Flores each hit a double and Bruce hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and Flores committed an error. 

Joe Panik drew a walk, Eduardo Nunez had two hits and Hunter Pence had a hit and an RBI.  Buster Posey had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Christian Arroyo had two hits and three RBI and Nick Hundley had two hits and drew a walk.  Justin Ruggiano had two hits and an RBI, Gorkys Hernandez drew a walk and Arroyo hit a double and Posey hit a homerun.  The Giants were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Posey committed an error. 

In the first Granderson hit an RBI double giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Posey hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the third Bruce hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Milone hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Ruggiano hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the ninth Pence hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  Arroyo hit a three-run double to give the Giants a 6-3 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Flores hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 6-5 but that was the final score.  The Mets won two out of three in the series and will head to Milwaukee after an off day on Thursday.

New York Mets win second straight over the San Francisco Giants


The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well and the bullpen was good also.  T.J. Rivera led the offense with three hits. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run.  He walked four and struck out four and won his second game of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Jerry Blevins pitched to two batters and retired them both and Addison Reed retired the only batter that he faced.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning. 

Jeff Samardzija pitched seven innings giving up ten hits and six runs.  He walked none and struck out nine and took his fifth loss of the season.  Cory Gearrin pitched an inning giving up three hits. 

Michael Conforto had two hits and an RBI, T. Rivera had three hits and an RBI and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Neil Walker had a hit and two RBI, Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI, Rene Rivera had two hits and an RBI and Wilmer Flores had two hits.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Bruce, R. Rivera, Conforto and T. Rivera each hit a double and Walker hit a triple.  Conforto hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Brandon Belt drew a walk, Buster Posey had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Christian Arroyo drew two walks.  Samardzija had a hit, Posey hit a homerun and the Giants left five men on base. 

In the first Walker hit a two-run triple giving the Mets a 2-0 lead, Reyes hit an RBI single and R. Rivera hit an RBI double and it was 4-0 Mets.  In the second T. Rivera hit an RBI double to push the lead to 5-0.  In the fourth Posey hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Conforto hit a solo homerun to make it 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game on Wednesday afternoon.  The Mets will be looking for the sweep.

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  The Mets bullpen was good and Wilmer Flores, Neil Walker and Rene Rivera each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out 11.  Fernando Salas pitched to two batters retiring both and striking out one, Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia earned his first win of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Matt Moore pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  George Kontos pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Steven Okert pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two and Derek Law pitched an inning giving up a hit and two walks.  Josh Osich pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk and he took his first loss of the season.  Hunter Strickland pitched giving up two hits without recording an out. 

Michael Conforto had a hit and drew two walks, T.J. Rivera had a hit and an RBI and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Flores had two hits, Walker had two hits and two RBI and Jose Reyes drew a walk.  R. Rivera had two hits, Juan Lagares drew a walk and deGrom had a hit.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Walker, Flores, T. Rivera and Granderson each hit a double.  The Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

Joe Panik had two hits, Brandon Belt drew a walk and Hunter Pence had a hit and two RBI.  Buster Posey had two hits and an RBI, Conor Gillaspie drew a walk and Gorkys Hernandez drew a walk.  Posey hit a double, Pence and Posey each hit a homerun.  The Giants were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Pence hit a two-run homerun to give the Giants a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Walker hit an RBI double to trim the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth T. Rivera hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Posey hit a solo homerun to give the Giants the lead at 3-2.  Granderson hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at three.  In the ninth Walker hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Mets a 4-3 victory. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets are shutout in a rough day


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-0.  The story though was off the field as Matt Harvey who was supposed to make the start was suspended by the team for three games.  The reason was unclear.  Adam Wilk made the start for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well but the bullpen was good.  The Mets managed one hit on offense. 

Wilk lost his first game of the season pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two.  Paul Sewald pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with six strikeouts, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and Fernando Salas pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Josh Smoker pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked two. 

Jose Urena pitched six innings giving up one hit and no runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  David Phelps pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Nick Wittgren pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and A.J. Ramos pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

T.J. Rivera drew a walk, Neil Walker drew a walk and Rene Rivera had a hit.  The Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Granderson committed an error. 

Christian Yelich had a hit and drew a walk, Marcell Ozuna had two hits and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and four RBI.  Martin Prado had a hit, Justin Bour drew a walk and Derek Dietrich had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  A.J. Ellis had a hit, Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Ozuna, Yelich, Dietrich and Suzuki each hit a double.  Stanton hit two homeruns and Hechavarria hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gordon committed an error. 

In the first Stanton hit a three-run homerun to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead.  In the third Stanton hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  In the fourth Hechavarria hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 5-0.  A wild pitch pushed the lead to 6-0 and in the seventh Dietrich hit an RBI double to make it 7-0 which was the final score.

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 11-3.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  The Mets bullpen was good and Jose Reyes and Jay Bruce each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two strikeouts.  Gsellman won his second game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits, Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him and Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning.  Paul Sewald pitched wo perfect innings. 

Odrisamer Despaigne pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and eight runs with three of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out four and took his first loss of the season.  Dustin McGowan pitched two innings giving up two hits and three runs with three walks and a strikeout and Junichi Tazawa pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings. 

Michael Conforto had two RBI and drew three walks, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Wilmer Flores had an RBI.  Bruce had two hits and three RBI, Neil Walker had a hit and Curtis Granderson drew two walks.  T.J. Rivera had a hit and an RBI, Reyes had two hits and an RBI and Kevin Plawecki had an RBI.  Gsellman drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Cabrera and Walker each hit a double.  Bruce hit two doubles.  The Mets were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Dee Gordon had a hit, Marcell Ozuna had two hits and two RBI and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and an RBI.  J.T. Realmuto had three hits, Miguel Rojas had two hits and Realmuto hit a double and Stanton and Ozuna each hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gordon had a stolen base and Bour, Prado and Ozuna each committed an error and Realmuto had a passed ball.

New York Yankees defeat the Chicago Cubs in a long 18 inning marathon


The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 5-4.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched great and the offense was led by Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Holliday and Brett Gardner who each had two hits. 

Severino pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Aroldis Chapman blew his first save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched two innings giving up a hit and he walked two with two strikeouts, Jonathan Holder pitched three innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts and Chasen Shreve picked up his first win of the season pitching three innings and giving up a hit and three walks and striking out five. 

Jon Lester started for the Cubs and he pitched seven innings and gave up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out nine.  Justin Grimm pitched two innings and gave up three hits and two runs with a strikeout, Wade Davis pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts and Carl Edwards Jr. pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.  Koji Uehara pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Mike Montomery pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Brian Duensing pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Pedro Strop took his second loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew two walks and Holliday had two hits.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Starlin Castro had two RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew two walks, Gardner had two hits and Judge hit a triple and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Hicks, Holliday, Gregorius each had a stolen base and Ellsbury was picked off. 

Kyle Schwarber had two hits and drew two walks, Kris Bryant had a hit and drew two walks and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, an RBI and drew three walks.  Ben Zobrist had a hit, Addison Russell drew two walks and John Jay had a hit and drew a walk.  Willson Contreras had a hit, Albert Almora Jr. had two hits and an RBI and Javier Baez had two hits and two RBI.  Schwarber and Rizzo each hit a double and Baez hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 2-15 with runners in scoring position and left 18 men on base.  Baez had a stolen base and Bryant and Contreras each committed an error.  Contreras had a pickoff. 

In the first Castro hit an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Baez hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Judge hit an RBI triple to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the eighth Ellsbury hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the ninth Almora Jr. hit an RBI single to make it 4-2, Baez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3 and Rizzo was hit by a pitch to tie the game at four.  In the 18th inning Castro reached on a fielder’s choice and had an RBI to make it 5-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the three game series and will head to Cincinnati for a two game series beginning on Monday night. 

New York Yankees offense jumps on Chicago Cubs for victory


The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 11-6.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees offense was led by Aaron Hicks who had four hits and Starlin Castro had three hits. 

Montgomery pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out three.  Montgomery picked up his second career victory and second of the season.  Tyler Clippard pitched to one batter and retired him, Tommy Layne pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out three. 

Brett Anderson started for the Cubs and he pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up six hits and five runs.  He struck out one and took his second loss of the season.  Felix Pena pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out three.  Rob Zastryzny pitched four innings and gave up three hits and three runs with four walks and a strikeout.  Miguel Montero the catcher pitched a scoreless inning with a couple of walks.

In the first Hicks hit an RBI single, Castro hit an RBI double, Sanchez hit an RBI single and Headley hit a two-run double to make it 5-0 Yankees.  In the third Carter reached on a force attempt error and pushed the score to 6-0.   In the fourth Castro hit a two-run homerun and extended the Yankees lead to 8-0.  In the fifth Jay hit an RBI ground out to get the Cubs on the board at 8-1.  Zobrist reached on a throwing error and the score was 8-2.  In the seventh Zobrist hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 8-3.  Hicks hit a three-run homerun in the eighth to extend the Yankees lead to 11-3.  In the bottom of the eighth Baez hit an RBI single to make it 11-4 and Montero hit a two-run single to cut the lead to 11-6 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday night.  The Yankees will be going for the sweep.
