The New York Yankees sweep the Boston Red Sox in London


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday morning/afternoon.  The game took place in London, England and the final score was 12-8.  Stephen Tarpley started for the Yankees as the opener and he didn’t pitch well.  Luis Cessa out of the bullpen pitched great.  DJ LeMahieu had three hits to lead the offense, Aaron Hicks, Didi Gregorius and Brett Gardner each had two hits. 

Tarpley pitched an inning giving up four hits and four runs.  Cessa pitched four innings giving up four  hits and he struck out two, Adam Ottavino won his third game pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Chance Adams pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hit snad four runs, Zach Britton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out the side. 

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Colten Brewer pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Marcus Walden pitched giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and he lost his first game of the season.  Matt Barnes pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Josh Taylor pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one being earned.  Taylor gave up two walks, Ryan Brasier pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Steven Wright pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

LeMahieu had three hits and two RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew three walks and Hicks had two hits and two RBI.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Edwin Encarnacion drew two walks and Gregorius had two hits and an RBI.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew two walks, Gio Urshela had a hit and three RBI and Brett Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  LeMahiue had two doubles and Hicks had a double.  Gregorius hit a homerun to make it at least one homerun in 31 straight games for the Yankees.  The Yankees were 6-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Torres and Sanchez each committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had a hit and drew a walk, Rafael Devers had a hit and Xander Bogaerts had a hit and two RBI.  Marco Hernandez had two hits, J.D. Martinez had three hits and an RBI and Christian Vasquez had two hits and three RBI.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits, Eduardo Nunez had a hit and an RBI and Sam Travis had two hits and an RBI.  Martinez, Nunez and Hernandez each hit a double.  Bogaerts, Martinez and Vasquez each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left 7 men on base.  Chavis committed two errors. 

In the first Bogaerts hit a two-run homerun, Martiez hit a solo homerun and Vasquez hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.  IN the second Urshela hit an RBI ground out and Gardner hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Hicks hit an RBI double, Sanchez hit a two-run single and urshela hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 7-4 lead.  The inning continued and LeMahieu hit a two-run double, Hicks hit a sac fly and Sanchez reached on a fielding error to allow a run to score and make it a 11-4 game.  The Yankees plated nine runs in the inning to take the lead.  In the eighth Gregorius hit a solo homerun and it was 12-4 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Vazquez hit a two-run single, Nunez hit an RBI double and Travis hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 12-8 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the two-game London Series and will return to New York to take on the Mets on Tuesday night.  The game will take place at Citi Field. 


New York Yankees win a wild slugfest in London over the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place in London, England and the final score was 17-13.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Luke Voit had four hits and DJ LeMahieu had four hits to lead the offense which there was plenty of. 

Tanaka pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and six runs.  He walked two.  Chad Green won his second game of the season pitching two innings and giving up four hits and no runs with a strikeout, David Hale pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched three innings giving up five hits and five runs with three strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and he didn’t record an out, Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he walked one and Zach Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Rick Porcello pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up five hits and six runs with a walk.  Colten Brewer pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Steven Wright took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up five hits and two runs with a  walk and two strikeouts and Mike Shawaryn pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up six hits and eight runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Josh Taylor pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect inning and Hector Velasquez pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  Marcus Walden pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

LeMahieu had four hits and five RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Voit had four hits and an RBI, Gio Urshela had a hit and Didi Gregorius had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Edward Encarnacion had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had two hits and two RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits and drew two walks.  Brett Gardner had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Voit hit three doubles and Gregorius, Encarnacion, LeMahieu and Urshela each hit a double.  Hicks, Gardner and Judge each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 9-18 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Mookie Betts had a hit and drew two walks, Rafael Devers had two hits and an RBI and Marco Hernandez had a hit and an RBI.  Xander Bogaerts had a hit and drew two walks, J.D. Martinez had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Christian Vasquez had a hit and an RBI.  Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI, Sandy Leon had two hits and Michael Chavis had two hits, six RBI and drew a walk.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had four hits and an RBI, Devers hit two doubles and Martinez hit a double.  Chavis hit two homeruns and Bradley Jr. hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 6-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the first Voit hit an RBI double, Gregorius hit a two-run double and Encarnacion hit an RBI double.  Hicks hit a two-run homerun and it was 6-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the first Devers hit an RBI double, Vasquez hit a sac fly and Holt an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 6-3.  Chavis hit a three-run homerun and the game was tied at six.  In the third Gardner hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees back the lead at 8-6.  In the fourth Gardner drew an RBI walk and LeMahieu hit a three-run double to push the Yankees lead to 12-6.  Judge hit a two-run homerun and it was 14-6.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single and LeMahieu hit a two-run single to make it a 17-6 game.  In the sixth Bradley Jr. hit a solo homerun and in the seventh Chavis hit a three-run homerun and Hernandez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 17-11.  Bogaerts drew an RBI walk and Martinez hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 17-13 but that would be the final score. 

The game was the first baseball game in England and they will play game two of the two game series on Sunday morning American time. 

New York Mets lose to the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Pete Alonso, Robinson Cano and Tomas Nido led the offense with two hits each. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  deGrom lost his seventh game of the season.  Wilmer Font pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts and Stephen Nogosek pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Mike Soroka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with four strikeouts.   Anthony Swarzak pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, A.J. Minter pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Luke Jackson pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Alonso had two hits and an RBI, Cano had two hits and Todd Frazier had a hit.  Dom Smith had a hit, Nido had two hits and an RBI and J.D. Davis had a hit.  Alonso hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rosario committed an error. 

Ronald Acuna Jr. had a hit, Freddie Freeman had two hits and drew two walks and Josh Donaldson had an RBI.  Nick Markakis had two hits, Austin Riley had two hits and two RBI and Johan Camargo had a hit and three RBI.  Soroka had a hit, Markakis and Camargo each hit a double and Riley hit a homerun and the Braves were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Acuna Jr. and Freeman each had a stolen base. 

In the second Riley hit a two-run homerun to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.  In the third Donaldson hit a sac fly to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Alonso hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Nido hit an RBI single and the lead was cut to 3-2.  In the eighth Camargo hit a three-run double to extend the lead to 6-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two on Saturday and then finish the series on Sunday.
