The New York Yankees end their five game losing streak with victory in Cleveland



The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 8-6.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and pitched ok.  The bullpen was ok also and the offense sprung to life.  Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and Brett Gardner had three hits. 

Eovaldi pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Eovaldi won his 12th game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning, Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Andrew Miller saved his 25th game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Trevor Bauer pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and a strikeout.  He lost his ninth game of the season.  Ryan Webb pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings, Kyle Crockett pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and Shawn Armstrong pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and two strikeouts.  Austin Adams pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Jeff Manship pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out three. 

Ellsbury had two hits and drew a walk, Gardner had three hits and three RBI and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, McCann had a hit and three RBI and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Drew had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Drew and Gardner each hit a double.  McCann and Drew each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Jose Ramirez had a hit, Francisco Lindor had two hits and drew a walk and Michael Brantley had an RBI.  Carlos Santana had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Yan Gomes had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Abraham Almonte had a hit and an RBI.  Chris Johnson had a hit, Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit and an RBI and Giovanny Urshela had a hit and drew a walk.  Gomes, Almonte and Johnson each hit a double and the Indians were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Santana had a stolen base and Lindor and Urshela each committed an error and Gomes a passed ball. 

In the first McCann hit a three run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the second Drew hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  The Indians got on the board in the third with a Brantley sac fly and Santana RBI single to cut the lead down to 4-2.  In the fourth Drew hit an RBI double to make it 5-2 Yankees and Gardner hit an RBI double that pushed the lead to 6-2.  In the sixth Gardner hit an RBI single to make it 7-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Almonte hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-3.  Chisenhall hit an RBI single to make it 7-4 Indians.  A wild pitch in the seventh made it 7-5 Yankees.  In the eighth Gardner hit an RBI single to make it an 8-5 game and the Indians scored another run in the ninth to make it 8-6 which was the final score.  The Yankees ended their five game losing streak and salvaged the final game of this three game series.  They will head to Toronto to start a big three game series on Friday night.   

The New York Mets complete four game sweep of the Colorado Rockies



The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 12-3 Mets.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched pretty well.  Kelly Johnson had three hits and Yoenis Cespedes and Michael Conforto each had two hits. 

Syndergaard started and pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  He won his eighth game of the year, Hansel Robles pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up a walk. 

Eddie Butler pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a walk and four strikeouts and he lost his tenth game of the season.   Scott Oberg pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, Christian Friedrich pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and John Axford pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Tommy Kahnle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout and Justin Miller pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Cespedes had two hits and an RBI and Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI.  Uribe had a hit and an RBI, Johnson had three hits and three RBI and Conforto had two hits and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and three RBI, Murphy, Uribe and Cespedes each hit a double and Johnson hit two doubles.  Granderson and Johnson each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 6-11 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Charlie Blackmon drew a walk, D.J. LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Gonzalez had an RBI.  Nolan Arenado had a hit and an RBI and Michael McKenry drew a walk.  Daniel Descalso had a hit, Kyle Parker had a hit and drew a walk and LeMahieu and Arenado each hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Blackmon had a stolen base. 

In the first LeMahieu hit a solo homerun and Arenado hit a solo homerun to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Murphy hit an RBI double, Uribe hit an RBI double and Johnson hit an RBI double.  The Mets had a 3-2 lead.  In the third Gonzalez hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at three.  In the bottom of the third Johnson hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 4-3 lead.  In the fourth Granderson hit a two run homerun to push the Mets lead to 6-3.  In the fifth Johnson hit a solo homerun and it was 7-3 Mets. In the sixth Granderson hit a sac fly to increase the lead to 8-3.  Cespedes hit an RBI single to make it 9-3 Mets.  In the eighth Lagares hit a three run homerun to make it 12-3 and that would be the final score.  The Mets will remain at home to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three game series beginning on Friday night. 

The New York Mets shutout the Colorado Rockies once again



The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field and the final score was 3-0 Mets.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well and Juan Uribe led the offense with a couple of hits. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up two hits and no runs with four walks and ten strikeouts.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Jeurys Familia saved his 32nd save of the season and pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two. 

Jorge De La Rosa pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Christian Bergman pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  De La Rosa lost his sixth game of the season. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI and Uribe had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit and an RBI, Wilmer Flores drew a walk and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and drew a walk.  Uribe hti a double and Cespedes hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Carlos Gonzalez drew a walk and Ben Paulsen drew a walk.  D.J. LeMahieu had two hits, Michael McKenry drew two walks and LeMahieu hit a double and the Rockies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base. 

In the fourth Uribe hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Cuddyer hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  In the eighth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  The final score was 3-0 Mets.  The Mets will go for the four game sweep on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees losing streak hits five as they fall out of first place



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 2-1.  CC Sabathia started and pitched well and the offense did practically nothing again. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up nine hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his ninth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Nick Goody pitched a scoreless inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.   

Danny Salazar pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with five walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his tenth game of the season and Cody Allen pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and picked up his 23rd save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Headley drew two walks and Mark Teixeira had a hit.  Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Chris Young drew a walk.  Beltran hit a double and McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing. 

Jose Ramirez had two hits, Francisco Lindor had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Chris Johnson had a hit.  Carlos Santana had two hits, Jerry Sands had a hit and Giovanny Urshela drew a walk.  Abraham Almonte had a hit and an RBI, Roberto Perez had a hit and drew a walk and Mike Aviles had a hit.  The Indians were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the second McCann hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Lindor hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Almonte hit an RBI single to give them a 2-1 lead and that was the final score.  The Yankees will try and avoid the sweep on Thursday night. 

The New York Mets shutout the Colorado Rockies



The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0 Mets.  Matt Harvey pitched great and Juan Lagares had three hits and three guys had two hits. 

Harvey pitched eight innings giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Harvey won his 11th game of the season.  Eric O'Flaherty pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Chris Rusin pitched six innings giving up eight hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Rafael Betancourt pitched a perfect inning, John Axford pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and Boone Logan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a walk. 

Lagares had three hits and two RBI, Daniel Murphy had two hits and Michael Cuddyer had two hits.  Wilmer Flores had two hits, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and drew a walk and Ruben Tejada had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Curtis Granderson had an RBI and drew a walk.  Lagares hit two doubles, Flores hit a double and the Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Cuddyer had a stolen base.

LeMahieu had a hit, Kyle Parker had a hit and Paulsen and Reyes hit a double.  The Rockies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base and Hundley committed an error. 

In the sixth Tejada hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Granderson had an RBI walk to make it 2-0 and Lagares hit a two run double and made it 4-0 Mets and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.   

New York Yankees lose a wild game in 16 innings to the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-4 in 16 innings.  Luis Severino started and pitched well after a rough start and the bullpen was really good.  The Yankees offense came alive late and then went flat again in extra innings.  Carlos Beltran had a couple of hits and Didi Gregorius had three hits. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up two runs on seven hits.  He walked one and struck out two.  Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts and blew his first save of the season.  Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning, Bryan Mitchell pitched three innings giving up two hits and no runs with two walks and five strikeouts and Branden Pinder pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season. 

Carlos Carrasco pitched eight innings giving up four hits and two runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up a walk and struck out one, Bryan Shaw pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and Kyle Crockett pitched to one batter and struck  him out.  Zach McAllister pitched an inning giving up a walk and struck out two, Jeff Manship pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Ryan Webb pitched three perfect inning giving up two strikeouts.  Austin Adams pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he won his second game of the season.

In the first Santana hit an RBI single to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  In the second Ramirez hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Indians.  In the sixth Drew hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth Beltran hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the tenth Headley hit a two run single to make it 4-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the tenth the Indians tied the game at four.  Santana hit a sac fly and Gomes hit an RBI single.  In the 16th inning Brantley hit an RBI single to give the Indians the 5-4 walk-off win.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets get back on track with a comeback win over the Colorado Rockies



The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2 Mets.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen did their job.  Travis d'Arnaud had two hits to lead the offense and Daniel Murphy had a big two run single. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  He won his seventh game of the season.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Jeurys Familia saved his 31st game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Jon Gray started for the Rockies and he pitched six innings giving up one hit and one run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Justin Miller pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks, Boone Logan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Scott Oberg pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Curtis Granderson had an RBI, Murphy had a hit and two RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit.  d'Arnaud had two hits and an RBI, Michael Conforto drew a walk and Niese drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada drew two walks, d'Arnaud hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Niese had a pickoff. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, D.J. LeMahieu had a hit and Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI.  Nick Arenado had a hit, Nick Hundley had two hits and Gonzalez hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Reyes was picked off by Niese. 

In the second d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Gonzalez hit a two run homerun to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead.  The Mets took back the lead for good in the seventh.  Granderson got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at two and Murphy hit a two run single to give them a 4-2 lead which would be the final score.  The Mets ended their two game losing streak and took the first of this four game series.

The New York Yankees are swept at home by the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-0 Jays.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen did their job.  The Yankees offense didn't do much of anything once again. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up two runs on three hits.  He walked none and struck out five and took his fifth loss of the season.  Adam Warren gave up a hit and a walk without recording an out, Justin Wiilson pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Branden Pinder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Marco Estrada won his tenth game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out six.  LaTroy Hawkins pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Aaron Sanchez pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he saved his tenth game of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Mark Teixeira drew a walk and Brian McCann drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Troy Tulowitzki drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had two hits and an RBI and Jose Bautista had two hits and an RBI.  Dioner Navarro drew a walk, Chris Colabello had a hit and Cliff Pennington drew a walk.  Donaldson and Bautista hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Donaldson hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Bautista hit a solo homerun to give them a 2-0 lead and that was the final score.  The Yankees were swept in the three game series and will have the day off on Monday.  They will begin a three game series in Cleveland on Tuesday night and then they will play three in Toronto over the weekend.   

The New York Mets lose a close one to the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Mets were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-3 Rays.  Bartolo Colon pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Daniel Murphy and Yoenis Cespedes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with no walks or strikeouts.   Eric O'Flaherty pitched to one batter and retired him and Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one. 

Chris Archer pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs with four walks and ten strikeouts.  Xavier Cedeno pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and won his second game.  Steve Geltz pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jake McGee saved his sixth game of the season pitching an inning with a strikeout.

John Jaso had two hits and three RBI, Evan Longoria had a hit and Logan Forsythe had two hits.  Richie Shaffer had three hits and an RBI, Brandon Guyer had a hit and Rene Rivera had a hit.  Rivera and Jaso each hit a double and Shaffer hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the second Granderson drew an RBI walk adn Murphy hit a two run single to make it 3-0 Mets.  In the third Jaso hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-1 Mets.  Jaso hit a two run double in the fifth to tie the game at three and in the seventh Shaffer hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.  The Mets will return home to play the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.  It is the beginning of a four game series.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 5-4 Rays.  Noah Syndergaard had a tough outing and the bullpen pitched well.  Curtis Granderson, Yoenis Cespedes and Lucas Duda led the offense with two hits each. 

Syndergaard pitched four innings giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He took his seventh loss of the season.  Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Carlos Torres pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Nathan Karns won his seventh game of the season pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out eight.  Xavier Cedeno pitched a perfect inning and struck out the side, Steve Geltz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jake McGee pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.  Brad Boxberger saved his 28th game of the season pitching a perfect inning.

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Duda hit a two run double and it was 3-0 Mets.  Sizemore hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 3-2.  Kiermaier hit a two run single and it was 4-3 Rays.  In the second Granderson hit a solo homerun to tie the game at four.  In the fourth Longoria hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 5-4 lead and that would be the final score.  The rubber game of the series will be on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-3 Mets.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Daniel Murphy and Wilmer Flores led the offense with two hits each. 

deGrom pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Eric O'Flaherty pitched to one batter and retired him, Bobby Parnell pitched 1/3 of an inning with a walk and Tyler Clippard won his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and earned his 30th save of the season. 

Jake Odorizzi pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Steve Geltz pitched to one batter and retired him, Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Brad Boxberger pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two unearned runs and Alex  Colome pitched to one batter and struck him out.

Grady Sizemore had a hit and an RBI, Evan Longoria had two hits and an RBI and James Loney had two hits and an RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and Curt Casali drew a walk.  Loney and Cabrera each hit a double and Sizemore, Loney and Longoria each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Boxberger committed an error. 

In the fourth Sizemore hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Uribe hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Loney answered back with a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.  In the eighth Murphy hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  Longoria hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth to give the Rays a 3-2 lead.  In the ninth Conforto hit an RBI double to tie the game at three and Flores hit an RBI single to give them a 4-3 lead which would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
