New York Mets get shutout by the Washington Nationals in home opener


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched well, Seth Lugo was not good out of the bullpen.  Wilson Ramos had two hits to lead the Mets offense, the rest of the team only managed two hits. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning with a walk and struck out the side and Lugo pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs.  Tim Peterson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a walk. 

Stephen Strasburg pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Strasburg won his first game of the season.  Matt Grace to one batter and struck him out, Justin Miller pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two and Tony Sipp pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Sean Doolittle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Robinson Cano drew a walk and Ramos had two hits.  Jeff McNeil had a hit, Amed Rosario had a hit and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Adam Eaton drew a walk, Anthony Rendon had a hit and Juan Soto had a hit and drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman had an RBI and drew a walk, Yan Gomes had a hit and Wilmer Difo had a hit and two RBI.  Victor Robles had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Rendon hit a double, Robles hit a homerun and the Nationals were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Eaton had a stolen base and Strasburg and Rendon each committed an error. 

In the second Difo hit a sac bunt to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Robles hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the ninth Zimmerman hit a sac fly, Difo hit an RBI single and the lead was 4-0 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will be off on Monday and resume their service on Saturday afternoon.  

New York Yankees double up the Baltimore Orioles


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 8-4.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and after a rough start he pitched well.  The Yankees bullpen pitched great and Gleyber Torres led the offense with four hits and four RBI. 

Paxton pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Paxton picked up his first win of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs and no hits with a walk and a strikeout, Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Alex Cobb pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Mike Wright pitched giving up four hits and three runs and he took his first loss of the season, John Means pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Mychal Givens pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Miguel Castro pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, Luke Voit had a hit and three RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI.  Greg Bird had a hit and drew two walks, DJ LeMahieu had a hit and Torres had four hits and four RBI.  Clint Frazier had a hit, Tyler Wade had a hit and Torres hit a double.  Sanchez and Voit each hit a homerun and Torres hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Judge was caught stealing and Sanchez was picked off. 

Jonathan Villar had two hits and an RBI, Dwight Smith Jr. had a hit and Trey Mancini drew a walk.  Renato Nunez had two hits and an RBI, Rio Ruiz had a hit and drew a walk and Drew Jackson drew a walk.  Joey Rickard had two hits, Hanser Alberto had a hit and Jesus Sucre drew a walk.  Richie Martin had a hit, Smith hit a double and Villar hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ruiz was picked off and Givens had a pickoff. 

In the first Villar hit a solo homerun, a balk scored a run and a wild pitch scored another run to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead.  In the third Torres hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth Nunez hit an RBI single to push the Orioles lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Sanchez hit a solo homerun and Torres hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  In the ninth Voit hit a three-run homerun pushing the Yankees lead to 8-4 and that would be the final score. 

The teams will be off on Friday and resume their series on Saturday night.

New York Mets defeat the Miami Marlins to earn three game sweep


The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 6-4.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he was brilliant.  The Mets bullpen struggled and Pete Alonso and Michael Conforto each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and 14 strikeouts.  deGrom earned his second victory of the season.  Luis Avilan pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks, Robert Gsellman pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Edwin Diaz earned his third save of the season pitching to one batter and getting him out. 

Trevor Richards pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and seven strikeouts and took his first loss of the season.  Nick Anderson pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Austin Brice pitched two innings giving up three hits and two unearned runs with a strikeout. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Alonso had two hits and an RBI and Robinson Cano had a hit and an RBI.  Conforto had two hits and drew a walk, Keon Broxton had a hit and Amed Rosario had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Dominick Smith had ah it, an RBI, deGrom had a hit and an RBI and Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI.  Conforto, Alonso and Cano each hit a double, Rosario hit a triple and deGrom hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Curtis Granderson drew two walks, Brian Anderson had a hit and Neil Walker drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI and Brinson had a hit and an RBI.  Rosell Herrera had two hits and an RBI, Miguel Rojas had a hit and an RBI and Herrera hit two doubles and Prado hit a double.  The Marlins were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Rojas committed an error. 

In the second Rosario hit an RBI triple giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the t hird deGrom hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  Alonso hit an RBI double and it was 3-0 Mets.  In the seventh Cano hit an RBI double increasing the lead to 4-0.  In the eighth Smith hit an RBI single, Ramos hit an RBI single and it was 6-0 Mets.  In the ninth Prado hit an RBI double, Brinson had an RBI ground out, Herrera hit an RBI double and Rojas an RBI single cutting the lead to 6-4 but that would be the final score.  The Mets swept the three-game series and will now head home for their home opener on Thursday afternoon vs. the Washington Nationals. 

New York Mets hang on to defeat the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 6-5.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets an he pitched pretty well.  Wilson Ramos and Dominic Smith each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Vargas pitched five innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Vargas earned his first win of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and no runs with a couple of strikeouts, Seth Lugo pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and Justin Wilson earned his first save of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jose Urena pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Urena took his second loss of the season.  Tyler Kinley pitched an inning with two walks, Wei-Yin Chen pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts and Tayron Guerrero pitched a perfect inning.  Austin Brice pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Davis drew a walk.  Rosario hit a double and the Mets were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Rosario had a stolen base.  Cano committed an error. 

Miguel Rojas had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk and Brian Anderson had two hits and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had three hits and an RBI, Martin Prado had two hits and drew a walk and JT Riddle had a hit and an RBI.  Lewis Brinson had three hits and an RBI, Peter O’Brien had a hit and an RBI and Neil Walker had a hit.  Chad Wallach had a hit, Prado, Anderson, Granderson and Brinson each hit a double.  Castro hit a homerun and the Marlins were 4-18 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Alfaro committed an error. 

In the first Ramos hit an RBI single, Smith hit an RBI single and Rosario hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.  Lagares reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored to push the lead to 5-0.  In the bottom of the first Anderson hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 5-1.  In the fifth Castro hit a solo homerun making it 5-2.  In the seventh Nimmo was hit by a pitch and a run scored to extend the Marlins lead to 6-2.  In the bottom of the seventh Brinson hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-3.  O’Brien hit an RBI single to make it a 6-4 game and in the eighth Riddle hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 6-5 and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees offense silent again as they fall just short of the Detroit Tigers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched well also.  The Yankees offense was silent again as they couldn’t manage much of anything. 

Loaisiga pitched four innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Chad Green took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Zack Britton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Matthew Boyd started for the Tigers and he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and 13 strikeouts.  Buck Farmer pitched to two batters and struck them both out and earned his first win of the season.  Joe Jimenez pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Shane Greene pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his fourth save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Luke Voit drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Greg Bird had a hit.  Clint Frazier had a hit and drew a walk, LeMahieu hit a double and the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Judge had a stolen base and Gardner was caught stealing.  Sanchez committed an error. 

Josh Harrison had a hit, Nick Castellanos drew a walk and Niko Goodrum had a hit and drew a walk.  Jeimer Candelario drew a walk, Christin Stewart had an RBI and Gordon Beckham had a hit and an RBI.  Goodrum hit a double and Beckham hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Castellanos and Candelario each had a stolen base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

In the third Judge hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Stewart hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Beckham hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will now head to Baltimore with a 2-4 record and a lot of injuries.  The injuries have piled up and they really need to start to get some players back now. 

New York Yankees lose a close one in the ninth as bats continue to be cold


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aroldis Chapman didn’t pitch very well and the offense didn’t do much of anything. 

Tanaka pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and a run with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Adam Ottavino pitched 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and Chapman pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Chapman took his first loss of the season. 

Jordan Zimmerman pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Daniel Stumpf pitched to one batter and struck him out, Joe Jimenenz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Shane Greene earned his third save of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk, DJ LeMahieu had two hits and Mike Tauchman had a hit.  Clint Frazier had an RBI, Tyler Wade had a hit and Austin Romine had a hit.  Tachman hit a double and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Wade had a stolen base. 

Josh Harrison had a hit, Nick Castellanos had two hits and Miguel Cabrera had a hit.  Jeimer Candelario had two hits, John Hicks had two hits and an RBI and Niko Goodrum drew a walk.  Dustin Peterson had a hit and an RBI, Grayson Greiner had a hit and Jordy Mercer had a hit and an RBI.  Hicks, Greiner, Peterson each hit a double and Candelario hit two doubles.  The Tigers were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the second Frazier hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Hicks hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the ninth Peterson hit an RBI double and Mercer hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead and that would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams have split the first two games and the rubber game will be on Wednesday afternoon.

New York Mets fail to sweep the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 6-5.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch great.  Peter Alonso, Robinson Cano, Michael Conforto and Keon Broxton each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Robert Gsellman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Luis Avilan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tim Peterson pitched to one batter and got him out.  Justin Wilson took his first loss of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.   

Patrick Corbin started for the Nationals and pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Justin Miller pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Tony Sipp pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Trevor Rosenthal pitched giving up a hit and a run without recording an out.  Sean Doolittle earned his first win of the season after blowing his first save of the season.  He pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out two. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit, Alonso had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Cano had two hits.  J.D. Davis had a hit, Conforto had two hits and Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI.  Broxton had two hits and drew a walk, Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI.  Alonso and Davis each hit a double and the Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Broxton had two stolen bases and Nido committed an error. 

Adam Eaton had three hits, Trea Turner had two hits and four RBI and Anthony Rendon had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit, Yan Gomes had a hit and Victor Robles had two hits and an RBI.  Gomes hit a double and Robles hit two doubles.  Turner hit two homeruns and the Nationals were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Turner had a stolen base. 

In the third Alonso hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Turner hit a three-run homerun to give the Nationals a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth Rendon hit an RBI single to push the Nationals lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Rosario hit into a double play and a run scored cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Robles hit an RBI double and it was 5-2 Nationals.  In the eighth Rosario hit an RBI single and it was 5-3.  Ramos hit an RBI single and Lagares hit an RBI single and the game was tied at five.  In the bottom of the ninth Turner hit his second homerun of the game, this a walk-off solo homerun to give the Nationals a 6-5 victory. 

The Mets won two out of three in the series and will now head to Miami to take on the Marlins on Monday night. 

New York Yankees lose rubber game to the Baltimore Orioles


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-5.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well.  Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu led the offense with two hits each. 

Happ pitched four innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Happ took the loss, his first of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with only one being earned.  He walked two and struck out five, Stephen Tarpley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning with three walks and two strikeouts. 

Dylan Bundy pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with five walks and seven strikeouts.  John Means pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Means earned the win, Mychal Givens pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Paul Fry pitched to one batter and struck him out.

In the first Nunez hit a three-run homerun giving the Orioles a 3-0 lead.  In the third Mancini hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 4-0.  In the fourth Gardner drew an RBI walk and Judge hit a two-run single to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the fifth Smith hit an RBI single and the Orioles lead was 5-3.  In the seventh Sanchez hit a solo homerun to get the Yankees back to within one run, but that was as close as they would come.  In the eighth Rickard hit a two-run homerun pushing the Orioles lead to 7-4 and in the bottom of the ninth the Yankees would threaten but fall short.  LeMahieu hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 7-5 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost two out of three to the awful Orioles to open the season and now will stay home and take on the Detroit Tigers in a three-game series beginning on Monday night.

New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 11-8.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Jeff McNeil had four hits and Peter Alonso had three hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with seven strikeouts.  Justin Wilson earned his first victory of the season pitching a perfect inning, Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up a hit and four unearned runs.  He walked two and struck out two.  Edwin Diaz earned his second save of the season pitching to one batter and getting him out.

In the first Ramos hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  McNeil hit an RBI triple to make it 3-0.  In the bottom of the first Soto hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the second Alonso hit an RBI double to push the Mets lead to 4-1.  In the third Robles hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2.  Soto hit an RBI single making it 4-3.  In the sixth Suzuki hit a sac fly to tie the game at four.  In the eighth Davis hit a two-run single, a balk scored a run and Alonso hit a two-run double to make it 8-4 Mets.  In the  ninth inning McNeil hit an RBI double and Smith hit an RBI single to extend the Mets lead to 11-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Rendon was hit by a pitch and Zimmerman hit a three-run double to cut the lead to 11-8 and that would be the final score.

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 2-0.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched great.  Robinson Cano led the offense with two hits and two RBI. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up five hits and no runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  deGrom earned his first win of the season.  Seth Lugo pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning and Edwin Diaz earned his first save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Max Scherzer lost his first game of the season pitching 7 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with three walks and 12 strikeouts.  Justin Miller pitched to one batter and gave up a hit, Matt Grace pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Peter Alonso had a hit and Cano had two hits and two RBI.  Wilson Ramos had a hit, Jeff McNeil drew a walk and Amed Rosario had a hit.  Dominic Smith drew a walk, Cano hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rosario was caught stealing. 

Adam Eaton had a hit, Trea Turner had two hits and Juan Soto drew a walk.  Yan Gomes had a hit, Victor Robles had a hit and Robles hit a double and the Nationals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Turner had three stolen bases. 

In the first Cano hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead, in the eighth Cano hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 2-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets and Nationals will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon. 


New York Yankees lose to the Baltimore Orioles as a late rally falls short


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen wasn’t great and Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five.  Paxton took the loss in the game.  Adam Ottavino pitched to one batter and got him out, Chad Green pitched an inning giving up tow hits and a run with two strikeouts and Jonathan Holder pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned and he struck out two. 

Nate Karns started for the Orioles and he pitched two innings.  He gave up one hit and no runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Jimmy Yacabonis won the game and pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts, Miguel Castro pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three.  Richard Bleier pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Mike Wright earned his first save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew two walks and Luke Voit had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Miguel Andujar had a hit, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Torres had two hits.  Troy Tulowitzki had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, LeMahieu hit a double and Tulowitzki hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  LeMahieu, Sanchez and Voit each committed an error. 

Dwight Smith Jr. had two hits and an RBI, Trey Mancini had a hit and Joey Rickard drew a walk.  Rio Ruiz had a hit, Cedric Mullins had a hit and Jesus Sucre had three hits and three RBI.  Richie Martin had a hit, Ruiz and Sucre each hit a double.  The Orioles were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Smith and Martin each had a stolen base. 

In the fourth LeMahieu hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Smith hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Martin stole a base and a run scored on a Sanchez throwing error to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Sucre hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 3-1.  In the ninth Sucre hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 5-1.  In the bottom of the ninth Tulowitzki hit a solo homerun and Voit hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 5-3 but that would be the final score. 

The rubber game of the three game series will be on Sunday afternoon.   

New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles on Opening Day


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge had two hits and two walks and Luke Voit had four RBI to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out five and earned his first victory of the season.  Adam Ottavino pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out three, Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Andrew Cashner started for the Orioles and he pitched four innings giving up six hits and six runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Mike Wright pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, David Hess pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts and Paul Fry pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Judge had two hits and drew two walks and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew two walks.  Voit had a hit, four RBI and drew two walks, Miguel Andujar had a hit and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk and Troy Tulowitzki had a hit.  Tulowitzki hit a double and Bird and Voit each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Andujar committed an error. 

Cedric Mullins drew a walk, Dwight Smith Jr. had a hit and Jonathan Villar had two hits.  Trey Mancini had three hits and an RBI, Rio Ruiz had a hit and an RBI and Hanser Alberto had a hit.  Mancini hit a double and the Orioles were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sucre had a passed ball.

In the first Voit hit a three-run homerun giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the third Andujar hit into a double play and a run scored to push the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the fourth Ruiz hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Voit was hit by a pitch and a run scored, Andujar hit a sac fly and the Yankees lead was 6-1.  In the sixth Mancini hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the eighth Bird hit a solo homerun to make it a 7-2 game and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees and Orioles will play game two of their three game series in Saturday afternoon.
