New York Yankees rally late to defeat the Minnesota Twins

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-5 in ten innings.  Luis Gil started for the Yankees and got off to a bad start but then battled it out for six innings.  The bullpen was good and Joey Gallo led the offense with two hits. 

Gil pitched six innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Andrew Heaney pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out two batters, Albert Abreu pitched to one batter and retired him and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Clay Holmes pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he earned his eighth win of the season.

John Gant started for the Twins and he only pitched 2/3 of an inning walking a batter.  He left with an injury.  Luke Farrell pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two, Caleb Thielbar pitched an inning giving up a hit and Kyle Barraclough pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk.  Tyler Duffey pitched two innings giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, Alex Colome pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with four strikeouts and Ralph Garza Jr. pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run.  He took his third loss of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Gallo had two hits and an RBI, Luke Voit drew a walk and Tyler Wade drew a walk.  Anthony Rizzo drew a walk, Sanchez had a hit and an RBI and Gardner hit a double.  Gallo and Judge each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Wade had a stolen base. 

Luis Arraez had two hits, Byron Buxton had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Jorge Polanco had a hit and two RBI.  Josh Donaldson drew a walk, Max Kepler had a hit and drew a walk and Miguel Sano had three hits and two RBI.  Arraez hit a double and Polanco, Sano and Buxton each hit a homerun.  The Twins were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Polanco hit a two-run homerun and Sano hit a two-run homerun giving the Twins a 4-0 lead.  In the third Buxton hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 5-0.  In the bottom of the sixth LeMahieu hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Gallo hit a solo homerun making it a 5-2 game.  In the bottom of the eight Judge hit the big blow which was a three-run homerun tying the game at five.  In the tenth Sanchez hit a walk-off RBI single to give the Yankees a 6-5 victory.  The Yankees will now head to Baltimore to take on the Orioles for three games beginning Tuesday night. 

New York Yankees lose a close and wild one late to the New York Mets

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the New York Mets on Sunday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-6.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees and he pitched well, he didn’t get any help from his defense though.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with three hits and Giancarlo Stanton added a couple of hits and three RBI. 

Schmidt pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs but only two were earned.  He walked three and struck out two.  Andrew Heaney pitched to two batters and retired them both, Wandy Peralta pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts and Chad Green took the loss which was his seventh of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Carlos Carrasco started for the Mets and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks, Miguel Castro pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.  Seth Lugo picked up his fourth win of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Edwin Diaz picked up his 29th save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

LeMahieu had three hits and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo drew three walks and Stanton had two hits and three RBI.  Joey Gallo had an RBI and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and two RBI and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Schmidt drew a walk and Stanton hit a double.  Torres and Stanton each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Torres and Urshela each committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Jonathan Villar had a hit and drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had three hits, five RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk.  Pete Alonso drew a walk, Javier Baez had two hits and Jeff McNeil had two hits.  James McCann had an RBI and drew two walks, McNeil hit a double and Lindor hit three homeruns.  The Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Villar had a stolen base and McNeil committed an error.  McCann had a passed ball. 

In the first Stanton hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  They increased their lead to 2-0 on a Gallo sac fly.  In the bottom of the first Conforto hit an RBI single and the lead was cut to 2-1.  In the bottom of the second Lindor hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth McCann hit a sac fly pushing their lead to 5-2.  In the sixth inning Torres hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the bottom of the sixth Lindor hit a solo homerun making it a 6-4 game.  In the seventh Stanton hit a two-run homerun tying the game at six.  In the eighth Lindor hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 7-6 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Mets took two out of three from the Yankees in the series.  The Yankees will return home for a Monday afternoon makeup gave against the Minnesota Twins.

New York Yankees win a thrilling game over the New York Mets

 

The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  Corey Kluber started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch great.  Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres each had two hits. 

Kluber pitched four innings and gave up five hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Lucas Luetge pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout.  Holmes earned his seventh win of the season.  Albert Abreu pitched an inning giving up two walks and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout. 

Taijuan Walker started for the Mets pitched six innings giving up six hits and five runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Seth Lugo pitched an inning with a strikeout, Trevor May pitched giving up three hits and three runs with two being earned and not recording an out.  May took his third loss of the season, Aaron Loup pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Brad Hand pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Gardner had two hits and two RBI and Judge had two hits and three RBI.  Stanton had two hits, Torres had two hits and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and two RBI.  Higashioka and Gardner each hit a homerun and Judge hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Francisco Lindor drew a walk, Michael Conforto had two hits and drew a walk and Javier Baez had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jeff McNeil had a hit and drew a walk, J.D. Davis had a hit and Kevin Pillar had two hits and two RBI.  James McCann had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Walker had a hit and an RBI and Dom Smith drew a walk.  Pillar and Davis each hit a double, McCann hit a triple and Baez and McCann each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Baez had a stolen base and committed an error. 

In the second Higashioka hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Gardner hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  Judge hit a solo homerun which was back-to-back pushing the lead to 5-0.  In the bottom of the second Pillar hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 5-1.  McCann hit an RBI triple making it a 5-2 game and Walker hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the third Baez hit a solo homerun trimming the lead to 5-4.  In the bottom of the sixth McCann hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 6-5 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Pillar hit an RBI single pushing the Mets lead to 7-5.  In the eighth inning Judge hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at seven.  Voit grounded into a forceout giving the Yankees an 8-7 lead and that would be the final score of the game.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday night.  It is the rubber game as each team has won one game so far.
