The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 3-0. Brandon McCarthy
started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well. The Yankees bullpen was pretty good and the
offense didn't get anything done.
McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings
giving up seven hits and two runs. He
walked none and struck out eight and suffered his 11th loss of the season. Rich Hill pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and Chase Whitley pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a
strikeout.
Corey Kluber pitched six innings
giving up four hits and no runs. He
walked one and struck out ten and earned his 13th win of the season. Scott Atchison pitched a perfect inning,
Bryan Shaw pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side and Cody
Allen pitched an inning striking out two and picking up his 15th save of the
season.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Derek
Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits. Chase Headley drew a walk, Ichiro Suzuki had
a hit and Ellsbury and Gardner each hit a double. The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring
position and left eight men on base.
Suzuki had a stolen base.
Michael Brantley had three hits and
an RBI, Nick Swisher had a hit and Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit. Jose Ramirez had three hits and two RBI,
Chris Dickerson had a hit and Ramirez and Brantley each hit a homerun. The Indians were 1-5 with runners in scoring
position and left six men on base.
Ramirez had a stolen base.
In the second Ramirez hit a two run
homerun to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.
In the eighth Brantley hit a solo homerun to give the Indians a 3-0 lead
and that would be the final score. The
two teams have split the first two games of the three game series. The rubber game of the series will be Sunday
afternoon.
