The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays to even series


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 11-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and labored, the bullpen was ok and the offense broke out especially late.  Garett Cooper had four hits to lead the attack. 

Tanaka pitched four innings giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked five and struck out two.  Chad Green won his second game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts, Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a strikeout and Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Nick Tepesch pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Tepesch lost his second game of the season.  Leonel Campos pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Aaron Loup pitched an inning with a strikeout and Dominic Leone pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run.  J.P. Howell pitched to one batter and struck him out, Taylor Cole pitched an inning giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout and Danny Barnes pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Aaron Judge drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had three hits and an RBI, Gary Sanchez had two hits and an RBI and Todd Frazier had three hits and three RBI.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and two RBI, Cooper had four hits and two RBI and Ronald Torreyes had two hits and two RBI.  Gardner, Gregorius, T. Frazier, Ellsbury and Cooper each hit a double.  Sanchez, T. Frazier and Gregorius each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Sanchez committed an error which was catchers interference. 

Jose Bautista had a hit and an RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit, an RBI and drew three walks and Justin Smoak drew a walk.  Steve Pearce had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Kevin Pillar had a hit and Norichika Aoki had a hit and an RBI.  Ryan Goins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Raffy Lopez drew a walk and Pillar and Goins each hit a double and Bautista hit a homerun.  The Jays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Aoki had an outfield assist. 

In the second Sanchez hit a solo homerun and T. Frazier followed it up with a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Aoki hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Gregorius hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the third Pearce hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth T. Frazier hit a two-run double to push the lead to 5-2 and Ellsbury hit an RBI double making it 6-2.  In the fifth Bautista hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-3 game.  In the sixth Goins hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-4 and Donaldson hit an RBI single to make it a 6-5 game.  In the eighth Torreyes hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 8-5 and in the ninth Ellsbury hit an RBI ground out and Cooper hit a two-run single making it 11-5 which would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams have split the first two games of the series and the rubber game will be on Thursday night. 

New York Yankees lose to Toronto in Toronto


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 4-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and wasn’t very good and it was announced after the game that he tweaked his knee and is headed back to NY for tests.  Bryan Mitchell came out of the bullpen and pitched very well and the offense stranded ten runners. 

Sabathia pitched three innings giving up four runs on six hits.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his fifth game of the season.  Bryan Mitchell pitched four innings giving up four hits and no runs with a walk and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

J.A. Happ pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with four walks and five strikeouts.  Happ won his fifth game of the season.  Dominic Leone pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Danny Barnes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Ryan Tepera pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout.  Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect inning. 

Clint Frazier had a hit, Aaron Judge drew two walks and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Todd Frazier had a hit and drew a walk.  Garett Cooper had two hits and two RBI, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Mitchell committed an error. 

Jose Bautista had a hit, Russell Martin had a hit and Josh Donaldson had three hits and four RBI.  Justin Smoak had a hit and drew a walk, Kendrys Morales had a hit and Steve Pearce had two hits and drew a walk.  Rob Refsnyder had a hit, Ryan Goins had a hit and Bautista, Pearce, Morales and Smoak each hit a double.  Donaldson hit two homeruns and the Blue Jays were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Donaldson hit a two-run homerun to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.   In the second Cooper hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Donaldson hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the eighth Cooper hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-2 and that would be the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two on Wednesday night.

New York Mets are shutout by the Los Angeles Dodgers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 8-0.  Steven Matz started and he didn’t pitch very well.  The Mets offense only managed one hit. 

Matz pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Matz lost his fifth game of the season.  Erik Goeddel pitched to two batters and retired them both, one by a strikeout, Hansel Robles pitched an inning with a strikeout and Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs.  A.J. Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and three strikeouts. 

Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched seven innings giving up a hit and no runs.  He walked none and struck out eight.  Tony Cingrani pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Kenley Jansen pitched an inning walking one striking out three. 

Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and Brandon Nimmo drew a walk.  The Mets were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Michael Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Chris Taylor had a hit and an RBI, Corey Seager had two hits and drew a walk and Justin Turner had two hits and two RBI.  Cody Bellinger had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Logan Forsythe had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Austin Barnes had a hit and an RBI.  Enrique Hernandez had a hit, Yasiel Puig drew a walk and Barnes and Turner each hit a double.  Taylor hit a triple, Turner and Bellinger each hit a homerun.  The Dodgers were 3-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Turner had two stolen bases and Bellinger had a stolen base. 

In the first Forsythe hit a two-run single to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.  Barnes hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the third Turner hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 5-0.  In the eighth Bellinger hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-0.  In the ninth Taylor hit an RBI triple to make it 8-0 and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees offense erupts as they defeat the Cleveland Indians


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 8-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Didi Gregorius had three hits but Jacoby Ellsbury had a huge three-run triple and Aaron Judge a three-run homerun. 

Severino pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Severino won his ninth game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched to one batter and retired him, Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning and Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Carlos Carrasco pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out six and lost his fifth game of the season.  Bryan Shaw pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a hit and he struck out one, Mike Clevinger pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout and Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Dan Otero pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Clint Frazier had a hit and drew a walk and Gregorius had three hits.  Judge had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Todd Frazier had a hit and drew a walk.  Ellsbury had two hits and three RBI, Ronald Torreyes had two hits and an RBI and C. frazier hit a double, Ellsbury hit a triple and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Francisco Lindor drew a walk, Michael Brantley had a hit and an RBI and Edwin Encarnacion had a hit.  Brantley hit a homerun and the Indians were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the first Brantley hit a solo homerun to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Headley hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  Ellsbury hit a three-run triple to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead and Torreyes hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Judge hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 8-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the four-game series and the Yankees have won two in a row after losing the first two of the series.  The Yankees will be off on Monday before beginning a three game set in Toronto on Tuesday night.
