The New York Yankees win on a walk-off single over the Chicago White Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Shane Greene started and had a rough start but then settled down.  The bullpen was great and Martin Prado led the offense with two hits and three RBI including the game winning hit. 

Greene pitched 5+ innings giving up three runs on nine hits.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out two, Dellin Betances pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out two and David Robertson won his second game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

John  Danks pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Ronald Belisario pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Zach Putnam pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one and Daniel Webb lost his fourth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with two walks. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira drew two walks, Prado had two hits and three RBI and Brian McCann had a hit.  Chase Headley drew two walks, Zelous Wheeler had a hit and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Ellsbury hit a double and Prado hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Gardner had an outfield assist and a stolen base. 

Alejandro De Aza had two hits, Sanchez had three hits and Jose Abreu had two hits and three RBI.  Adam Dunn drew a walk, Conor Gillaspie drew a walk and Alexei Ramriez had two hits.  Jd Danks had a hit, Tyler Flowers had a hit and Abreu hit a homerun.  The White Sox were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Abreu hit a three run homerun to give the White Sox a 3-0 lead.  Prado hit a two run homerun in the third inning to cut the lead to 3-2.  The Yankees tied the game in the fifth on an Ellsbury RBI double.  The Yankees won the game in the ninth on a Prado RBI single after they loaded the bases on a base hit and two walks.  The Yankees have won two in a row and will play game two of the three game series on Saturday afternoon.  It will also be Joe Torre Day as he will have his number retired and be in Monument Park for all of time. 

The New York Yankees avoid the sweep by the Houston Astros



The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Brandon McCarthy started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  The offense scored all their runs in one inning but they didn't need to do much. 

McCarthy pitched a complete game four hit shutout.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.  McCarthy earned his eight win of the season and fifth as a Yankee. 

Dallas Keuchel lost his ninth game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. 

Derek Jeter had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Mark Teixeira had two hits.  Martin Prado had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and two RBI and Francisco Cervelli had a hit.  Prado and Headley each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Robbie Grossman had a hit, Chris Carter had a hit, Dexter Fowler had a hit and Marc Krauss had a hit.  Fowler and Krauss each hit a double and the Astros were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Headley hit a two run double and Ichiro hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  Those would be the only runs of the game as that was the final score.  The Yankees lost two out of three and will begin a three game series with the Chicago White Sox at home on Friday night. 

The New York Mets earn a split with the Oakland Athletics



The New York Mets defeated the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at O co Coliseum in Oakland, California and the final score was 8-5.  Zach Wheeler started and pitched ok and the bullpen was pretty good.  The offense pounded out ten hits with four players having two hits each. 

Wheeler pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out three to win his ninth game of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Vic Black pitched an inning giving up an unearned run and walking two and Jeurys Familia pitched 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and picked up his fourth save of the season. 

Jeff Samardzija pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He lost his 10th game of the season, Jesse Chavez pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts, Abad pitched two perfect innings and Otero pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and David Wright drew a walk.  Lucas Duda had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk and Eric Campbell had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, Eric Young Jr. had a hit and Campbell and Duda each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Murphy and Duda each committed an error. 

Coco Crisp had a hit and an RBI, John Jaso had a hit and an RBI and Stephen Vogt had a hit.  Brandon Moss drew two walks, Josh Reddick had a hit and Alberto Callaspo drew a walk.  Sam Fuld had an RBI and drew two walks, Eric Sogard had a hit and drew a walk and Josh Donaldson had a hit.  Crisp, Jaso and Vogt each hit a double.  The A's were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Sogard committed an error. 

In the third Campbell hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  A wild pitch made it 2-0 Mets and Duda hit a three run homerun to make it 5-0.  Crisp hit an RBI double in the third to cut the lead to 5-1 and Jaso hit an RBI double to make it a 5-2 game.  In the fourth Granderson hit an RBI single and Murphy hit an RBI single to make it a 7-2 game.  Parrino reached on an error scoring two runs in the fourth and the score was 7-4.  In the fifth Flores hit an RBI single to give the Mets an 8-4 lead.  Fuld had an RBI walk in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-5 and that would be the final score.  The Mets will be off on Thursday and then begin a three game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

The New York Mets start off a west coast swing with a loss



The New York Mets were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.  The game took place at O co Coliseum and the final score was 6-2.  Dillon Gee started and didn't pitch too well and the offense was led by Eric Campbell who had two hits. 

Gee pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gee lost his sixth game of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two and Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. 

Scott Kazmir pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and six strikeouts.  Kazmir won his 14th game of the season.  Ryan Cook pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Eric O'Flaherty pitched to one batter and struck him out and Luke Gregerson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Sean Doolittle pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side. 

Juan Lagares drew a walk, Curtis Granderson drew two walks and David Wright had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI, Campbell had two hits and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, Anthony Recker had a hit and an RBI and Flores and Recker each hit a double.  d'Arnaud hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Coco Crisp had two hits and three RBI, John Jaso had a hit and Johnny Gomes drew a walk.  Stephen Vogt had two hits, Derek Norris had two hits and drew a walk and Josh Reddick had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Alberto Callaspo had two hits and an RBI and Eric Sogard drew a walk.  Norris hit a double, Crisp hit a triple and Reddick hit a homerun.  The A's were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the fourth d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  The A's answered right back in the bottom of the fourth.  Callaspo hit a sacrifice fly and Crisp hit a three run triple to give the A's a 4-1 lead.  Recker hit an RBI double in the seventh to make it a 4-2 game. Reddick hit a two run homerun in the eighth and it was 6-2 A's.  6-2 was the final score and the two teams will play the second and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.   

The New York Yankees lose second straight to the Houston Astros



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Michael Pineda started and pitched well, the bullpen struggled and the offense didn't do much again. 

Pineda pitched 6+ innings giving up two runs on four hits.  He walked one and struck out three.  David Huff lost his first game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts and Chase Whitley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Scott Feldman won his seventh game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Kevin Chapman pitched to one batter and struck him out, Josh Fields pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jose Veras pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk.

Robbie Grossman had two hits and two RBI, Jose Altuve had  a hit and an RBI and Dexter Fowler had a hit and an RBI.  Jason Castro drew a walk, Jon Singleton drew a walk and Gonzalez had a hit.  Matt Dominguez had two hits, Marisnick had two hits and an RBI and Fowler hit a double.  The Astros were 5-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Castro had a passed ball. 

Fowler hit an RBI double in the fourth to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game at one in the bottom of the inning on a Drew solo homerun.  The Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on an Ellsbury RBI single.  The Astros grabbed the lead for good in the seventh inning.  Marisnick hit an RBI single, Grossman hit a two run single and Altuve hit an RBI single to give the Astros a 5-2 lead and that would be the final score.  The Yankees had plenty of chances including in the bottom of the ninth but they couldn't capitalize.  The Yankees will try and avoid the three game sweep tomorrow afternoon.

The New York Yankees lose to the Houston Astros



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-4.  Chris Capuano started and pitched ok, the bullpen wasn't very good.  Martin Prado and Jacoby Ellsbury each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Capuano pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one, Shawn Kelley pitched an inning striking out two and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two.  David Robertson lost his fourth game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and Rich Hill pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Brett Oberholtzer pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Sipp pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Josh Fields earned his third win of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and striking out one and Chad Qualls saved his 14th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Prado had three hits and two RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and two RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Prado hit a double and McCann hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Suzuki had an error.

Robbie Grossman had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jose Altuve had a hit and drew two walks and Chris Carter had a hit and three RBI.  Dexter Fowler had two hits and drew a walk, Jason Castro had two hits and an RBI and Matt Dominguez had a hit.  Jon Singleton had two hits and drew a walk, Gregorius Petit had two hits and Marwin Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI.  Petit hit two doubles, Fowler hit a triple and Carter hit a homerun.  The Astros were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Grossman and Castro each had a stolen base and Castro committed an error. 

McCann hit a two run homerun in the fourth to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Grossman hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Castro hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at two and Gonzalez hit a two run single to give the Astros a 4-2 lead. The Yankees tied the game in the sixth on a two run double from Prado.  In the ninth Carter hit a three run homerun to give the Astros a 7-4 lead and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Mets fall flat in matinee loss to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1 Cubs.  Carlos Torres pitched well in a spot start, the bullpen wasn't so good.  The Mets offense again only had four hits. 

Torres pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out six.  Dana Eveland pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and he struck out one, Buddy Carlyle took the loss his first of the season.  Carlyle pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Vic Black pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 

Kyle Kendricks pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out three and earned his fifth win of the season.  Ramirez pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Hector Rondon earned his 18th save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Matt den Dekker had a hit and drew a walk, Murphy hit a double and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  den Dekker was caught stealing and d'Arnaud had a passed ball. 

Arismendy Alcantara drew a walk, Javier Baez had a hit and two RBI and Anthony Rizzo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit and drew a walk, Luis Valbuena had three hits and an RBI and Justin Ruggiano had a hit.  Castillo drew a walk, Ryan Sweeney had a hit and Rizzo hit a double and a homerun.  Baez also hit a homerun and the Cubs were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Duda hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Valbuena hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at one.  Rizzo hit a solo homerun in the eighth to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead and in the ninth Baez hit a two run homerun to make it 4-1 and that would be the final score.  The Mets split the four game series and now head to Oakland to take on the A's on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets lose a close one to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1 Cubs.  Rafael Montero started for the Mets and pitched well and Ruben Tejada had two of the teams four hits. 

Montero pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six.  Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and struck him out, Carlos Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Jennry Mejia lost his sixth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Jake Arrieta pitched seven innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out nine .  Pedro Strop pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout and Hector Rendon picked up his 17th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk and Matt den Dekker drew a walk.  Tejada had two hits and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  den Dekker had a stolen base.

Chris Coughlan had a hit, Javier Baez drew two walks and Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI.  Luis Valbuena had a hit and an RBI, Arismendy Alcantara had a hit and Ryan Sweeney had two hits.  Ruggiano drew a walk, Castro hit a homerun and the Cubs were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Coughlan was caught stealing, Rizzo committed an error and Baker had a passed ball. 

In the fourth Valbuena hit an RBI single to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit an RBI single in the eighth to tie the game at one.  The Cubs would take a 2-1 lead in the ninth on a Castro Solo homerun.  The final score was 2-1 Cubs.  The Mets took two out of the first three in the series and will play the final game on Monday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees win second straight in Tampa Bay



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg,Florida and the final score was 4-2 Yankees.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched well for the Yankees.  Dellin Betances and David Robertson closed it out and Mark Teixeira had a homerun. 

Kuroda pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out one and earned his eighth win of the season.  Shawn Kelley struck out the only batter that he faced, Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Robertson pitched a perfect inning to pick up his 33rd save of the season. 

Jeremy Hellickson pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his second game of the season.  Jeff Beliveau pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Kirby Yates pitched an inning with a strikeout and Joel Peralta pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.  Grant Balfour pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Desmond Jennings had a hit, Ben Zobrist had a hit and Matt Joyce had two hits.  Evan Longoria had a hit and two RBI, Vince Belnome drew a walk and Joyce hit a double.  The Rays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Longoria committed an error and Escobar committed an error. 

In the first Longoria hit an RBI groundout to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees scored three runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.  Gardner hit a two run single and Ellsbury hit an RBI single.  Longoria hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it a 3-2 game.  The Yankees took a 4-2 lead on a Teixeira solo homerun in the eighth and that was the final score.  The Yankees took two out of three in the series and finished their road trip with a 2-3 record.  They will have off on Monday and then begin a three game series with the Houston Astros on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Mets win second straight over the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-3 Mets.  Jon Niese started and pitched well, the bullpen was good and the Mets offense only had four hits but made the most of them. 

Niese pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out six and won his seventh game of the season.  Vic Black pitched a perfect inning, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Buddy Carlyle pitched an inning with two strikeouts. 

Dan Straily pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and seven runs with five of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four and lost his third game of the season.  Kyuji Fujikawa pitched 1/3 of an innign and walked a batter, Wesley Wright pitched to one batter and retired him and Carlos Villanueva pitched two innings with a walk.   

Lucas Duda drew three walks, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and Matthew den Dekker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Juan Lagares had a hit and two RBI, Wilmer Flores had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Niese had an RBI.  Lagares hit a double and the Mets were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Niese and Wright each committed an error. 

Javier Baez had a hit, Anthony Rizzo drew a walk and Justin Ruggiano had a hit and an RBI.  Arismendy Alcantara had a hit, Welington Castillo had two hits and an RBI and Chris Valaika had a hit.  Dan Straily drew a walk, Ryan Sweeney had a hit and an RBI and Castillo and Ruggiano each hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Alcantara committed an error. 

In the second Lagares hit an RBI double and Flores hit a two run single to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  Castillo hit a solo homerun in the fifth to make it a 3-1 game.  In the sixth den Dekker had an RBI walk, Lagares hit a sac fly and another run scored on an error to make it a 6-1 game.  Niese had an RBI groundout to make it 7-1 Mets.  In the seventh Ruggiano hit a solo homerun and Sweeney hit an RBI single to make it a 7-3 game and that was the final score.  The two teams will play on Sunday afternoon with the Mets looking for the series sweep. 

The New York Yankees end their five game skid with a win in Tampa Bay



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  Shane Greene started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Martin Prado hit a homerun and Derek Jeter had an RBI single. 

Greene pitched six innings giving up two runs on seven hits.  He walked one and struck out ten.  Shawn Kelley pitched an inning with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and picked up his fifth win of the season and David Robertson picked up his 32nd save of the season.  Robertson pitched a perfect inning. 

Drew Smyly pitched seven innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Brad Boxberger pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts.  McGee lost his first game of the season.

In the second Prado hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  The Rays would get on the board in the sixth on an Escobar RBI single.  Zobrist had an RBI groundout in the seventh to tie the game at two.  In the ninth Jeter hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Yankees and that would be the final score.  The two teams have split the first two games of the series and the rubber game will be on Sunday afternoon.
