The New York Mets fall in extra innings to the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets were defeated on Friday night by the Philadelphia Phillies.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2 in 11 innings.  Jennry Mejia started and pitched ok and the bullpen was pretty good.  David Wright, Wilmer Flores and Travis d'Arnaud each had a couple of hits. 

Mejia pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs but walking three and striking out three, Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Scott Rice pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk.  Kyle Farnsworth pitched an inning giving up a walk, Jose Valverde pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Carlos Torres lost his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Roberto Hernandez started for the Phillies and pitched five innings giving up six hits and one run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Jake Diekman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Mike Adams pitched an inning giving up a hit and had two strikeouts and Antonio Bastardo pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Mario Hollands picked up his first win pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one and Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 10th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and two walks and Wright had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Flores had two hits and d'Arnaud had two hits.  Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Granderson and Wright each hit a double and the Mets were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left 15 men on base. 

Ben Revere had a hit and drew a walk, Jimmy Rollins drew two walks and Chase Utley had three hits.  Ryan Howard had a hit and drew a walk, Marlon Byrd had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Domonic Brown had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit and drew two walks, Asche drew two walks and Utley hit two doubles.  Byrd hit a double and the Phillies were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left 17 men on base. 

In the first Granderson hit an RBI double giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Brown hit an RBI single in the third to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Brown hit an RBI single to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  Wright hit an RBI double in the eighth to tie the game at two and in the 11th Byrd hit an RBI double to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead and that would be the final. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night. 

Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees take down the Milwaukee Brewers


The New York Yankees defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.  The game took place at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the final score was 5-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched well again.  Yangervis Solarte had the big hit of the game with a three run homerun. 
Tanaka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up two runs on seven hits.  He walked one and struck out seven and won his fifth game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs and no hits with a strikeout and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and he struck out the side.  Robertson picked up his sixth save of the season. 
Yovani Gallardo pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Gallardo lost his second game of the season.  Zach Duke pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts, Brandon Kintzler pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Rob Wooten pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 
Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had an RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk, Solarte had a hit and three RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian Roberts had a hit and an RBI, Roberts and Beltran each hit a double and Solarte hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Suzuki had a stolen base. 
Carlos Gomez had two hits and drew a walk, Scooter Gennett had a hit and an RBI and Matthew Lucroy had a hit and an RBI.  Aramis Ramirez had a hit, Mark Reynolds had a hit and an RBI and Jean Segura had a hit.  Logan Schafer had a hit, Gomez and Gennett each hit a double and Reynolds hit a homerun.  The Brewers were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gomez had a stolen base and Schafer was caught stealing. 
In the fourth Solarte hit a three run homerun and Roberts hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the sixth the Brewers scored a couple of runs on a Gennett RBI double and Lucroy RBI single.  Teixeira hit an RBI groundout in the eighth to push the Yankees lead to 5-2 and then in the ninth Reynolds hit a solo homerun to make it 5-3 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night

The New York Mets are swept in Miami by the Marlins



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Miami Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 1-0.  Zach Wheeler started and pitched well and the bullpen did pretty well.  The offense only managed a couple of hits. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked five and struck out seven.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Carlos Torres lost his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and gave up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Kyle Farnsworth retired the only batter that he faced. 

Tom Koehler pitched eight shutout innings giving up two hits.  He walked one and struck out five and Steve Cishek picked up his third win of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

David Wright had a hit, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Wright hit a double and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Christian Yelich drew a walk, Derek Dietrich had a hit and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk.  Casey McGehee had a hit and drew two walks, Marcel Ozuna had an RBI and Jeff Mathis drew a walk.  The Marlins were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

The only run of the game came in the ninth inning.  Ozuna hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to give the Marlins the win and the sweep of the three game series.  The Mets leave Miami limping.  They are a game under 500 now and will head to Philadelphia before returning to New York and playing the four straight subway series games against the New York Yankees.   

New York Yankees win late in Anaheim



The New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched great.  Yangervis Solarte and Brian Roberts each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Kuroda pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out eight.  Shawn Kelley picked up his first win of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up a hit.  He did strike out a batter and Dave Robertson picked up his fifth save in as many chances.  Robertson pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. 

C.J. Wilson pitched eight innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Ernesto Frieri took his third loss of the season pitching an inning.  He gave up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk.  Alfonso Soriano had a hit and an RBI, Solarte had two hits and Brett Gardner had a hit.  Roberts had two hits and two RBI and hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Solarte committed an error. 

Erick Aybar had a hit and an RBI, Mike Trout had a hit and an RBI and Albert Pujols had two hits and an RBI.  Hank Conger had a hit, Colin Cowgill had a hit and Trout hit a triple.  The Angels were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the third Aybar and Trout each hit a sacrifice fly to give the Angels a 2-0 lead.  Roberts hit an RBI single and Ellsbury hit into a double play to score a run and tie the game at two.  In the eighth Soriano hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  Pujols hit an RBI single in the eighth to tie the game at three and Roberts hit a solo homerun in the ninth to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  The game would end 4-3 and the series tied at one game each.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets lose second straight to the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 3-0.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well.  Daniel Murphy had a couple hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out five and lost his fifth game of the season.  Jose Valverde pitched an inning with a walk and struck out the side. 

Henderson Alvarez won his second game of the season pitching a complete game.  He gave up six hits and no runs with no walks and struck out seven. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Murphy had two hits and David Wright had a hit.  Lucas Duda had a hit, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and Lagares hit a double.  Murphy hit two doubles and the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Murphy committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

Derek Dietrich had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks and Casey McGehee had two hits and two RBI.  Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit, Marcell Ozuna had  a hit and Stanton hit a double.  The Marlins were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Stanton had a stolen base. 

Stanton hit an RBI double in the first and McGehee hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth McGehee hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead and that would be the final score.  The Mets will try to salvage the final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon. 

New York Mets blow 3-0 lead late and lose on a walk-off



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Monday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 4-3.  Jon Niese started and pitched great, the bullpen was bad.  David Wright and Curtis Granderson each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out six, Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up two hits and three runs without recording an out.  He walked two, Kyle Farnsworth pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Scott Rice took the loss giving up a hit and a run without recording an out.  Gonzalez Germen pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk. 

Dana Eovaldi pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit and Steve Cishek picked up his second win pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Wright had two hits.  Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Bobby Abreu had an RBI and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk.  Wright hit a double, Murphy and Granderson each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Murphy hit a solo homerun and Granderson hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  The Mets added a run in the fourth on a Abreu sacrifice fly.  The Mets held a 3-0 lead in the eighth and then gave it up.  Stanton hit a RBI single, McGehee reached on an error and a run scored and Saltalamacchia hit an RBI double to tie the game at three.  In the ninth McGehee hit an RBI single to win the game.  The Marlins won 4-3. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night in Miami.

New York Yankees lose in Anaheim after a lousy eighth


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim on Monday night.  The game took place at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 4-1.  David Phelps started and pitched well.  Shawn Kelley had all kinds of trouble in the eighth with control and the offense didn't do much once again.  The offense had the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth and couldn't score.
Phelps pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up one run on three hits.  He walked one and struck out three.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and struck out one, Kelly lost his second game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up three runs on four walks.  Matt Thornton walked the only batter he faced and Preston Claiborne pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter. 
Jered Weaver won his third game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up six hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Ernesto Frieri earned his third save of the season by pitching an inning.  He struck out two batters. 
Derek Jeter had two hits, Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Kelly Johnson had a hit.  Brian Roberts had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Jeter hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Teixeira committed an error. 
Mike Trout drew a walk, Albert Pujols had two hits and drew an intentional walk and Raul Ibanez drew a pinch hit walk.  Howie Kendrick had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Ian Stewart had an RBI and John McDonald drew an RBI walk.  Chris Iannetta had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Colin Cowgill drew a walk and Kendrick hit a triple.  The Angels were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 
In the fifth Stewart hit an RBI groundout giving the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Teixeira hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the eight Kendrick drew an RBI walk, McDonald drew an RBI walk and Iannetta drew an RBI walk.  The Angels took a 4-1 lead and that is how the game ended. 
The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The Yankees have lost five of their last six games and are one game over 500.

The New York Mets salvage the final game in Colorado



The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado and the final score was 5-1.  Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched very well.  The bullpen was good also and Juan Lagares had three hits to lead the offense. 

Gee pitched six innings giving up six hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out five to earn his third win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Scott Rice faced one batter and retired him and Jeurys Familia pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Jhoulys Chacin took the loss pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and four runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  Tommy Kahnle pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Matt Belisle pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout.

Lagares had three hits, Daniel Murphy had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and David Wright had a hit and an RBI.  Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Chris Young had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew three walks.  Wright, Young, Lagares, Murphy and Duda each hit a double and the Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Young had a stolen base. 

Charlie Culberson had a hit, Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and Nolan Arenado had a hit.  Justin Morneau had a hit and an RBI, Michael McKenry had a hit and Corey Dickerson had two hits.  DJ LeMahieu drew a walk, Brandon Barnes had a hit and Culberson and Arenado each hit a double.  Morneau hit a homerun and the Rockies were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gonzalez had an outfield assist.   

Granderson hit an RBI single in the first giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Wright hit an RBI double and Young hit an RBI double to increase the lead to 3-0.  The Mets took a 4-0 lead in the fourth on a Murphy RBI double.  In the seventh Duda hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 5-0 lead.  The Rockies would score their only run in the ninth on a solo homerun by Morneau.  The final score was 5-1 Mets.  The Mets lost three out of four in this series and will head to Miami to take on the Marlins in a three game series beginning Monday night. 

The New York Yankees lose to the Tampa Bay Rays as CC struggles



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and wasn't very good.  Alfredo Aceves pitched in long relief and was excellent.  Brett Gardner had a couple of hits. 

Sabathia pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and five runs.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his fourth game of the season.  Aceves pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with five strikeouts. 

Erick Bedard won his first game of the season by pitching six innings.  He gave up six hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up a hit, Joel Peralta pitched an inning with a strikeout and Grant Balfour pitched an inning giving up a walk. 

Mark Teixeira had a hit, Alfonso Soriano had a hit and drew a walk and Kelly Johnson had a hit.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Gardner had two hits and John Ryan Murphy had a hit.  Soriano and Johnson each hit a double and the Yankees were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Logan Forsythe had two hits, Desmond Jennings had three hits and Evan Longoria had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wil Myers had two hits and four RBI, Sean Rodriguez had a hit and Yunel Escobar had two hits.  Brandon Guyer had two hits, Forsythe, Longoria, Jennings and Myers each hit a double.  Myers hit a homerun and the Rays were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Longoria hit an RBI double in the first to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.   In the second Solarte hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one.  Myers hit a three run inside the park homerun in the third inning that gave the Rays a 4-1 lead.  In the fourth Myers hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Rays took two out of three in the weekend series.  The Yankees finished their homestand at 3-5 and will head to the road on Monday night.  They will be in Anaheim, California to take on the Anaheim Angels in a three game series.

The New York Yankees bounce back with a big win over the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-3.  Masahiro Tanaka was good, not great and the bullpen was good.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Mark Teixeira had three RBI. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up three runs and eight hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out five and earned his fourth win of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Preston Claiborne pitched an inning striking out one. 

Jake Odorizzi pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Cesar Ramos pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two, Josh Lueke took his second loss of the season pitching two innings and gave up four hits and three runs.  Heath Bell pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk. 

Ellsbury had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Brett Gardner had two hits and two RBI and Teixeira had two hits and three RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit, Alfonso Soriano had an RBI and Kelly Johnson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brian Roberts had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and an RBI and Yangervis Solarte drew a walk.  McCann and Ellsbury each hit a double and Suzuki hit two doubles.  Teixeira  and Johnson each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

Desmond Jennings had a hit and an RBI, Matt Joyce had a hit and James Loney had three hits.  Wil Myers had a hit and an RBI, David DeJesus had two hits and Ryan Hanigan had a hit and an RBI.  Loney hit a double and Jennings and Myers each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Jennings hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  Hanigan hit an RBI single in the second to extend the Rays lead to 2-0.  The Rays took a 3-0 lead in the fourth on a Myers solo homerun.  Teixeira hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth Ellsbury hit an RBI double to tie the game at three.  In the sixth Johnson hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Teixeira hit an RBI single and Soriano hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.  It was 6-3 Yankees and in the eighth Suzuki hit an RBI double and Gardner hit a two run single to make it a 9-3 game and that was the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two games and rubber game of the series is on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.  The final score was 10-3 and the game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.  Zach Wheeler started and wasn't very good, the bullpen was ok.  Juan Lagares, Curtis Granderson and David Wright each had a couple of hits. 

Wheeler pitched four innings giving up seven  hits and seven runs with six of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out one and lost his third game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning striking out one, Carlos Torres pitched two innings and gave up five hits and three runs with two strikeouts and Kyle Farnsworth pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Jorge De La Rosa pitched six innings giving up eight hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Chris Martin pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Matt Belisle pitched an inning giving up a hit and drew a walk and Tommy Kahnle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.   

Lagares had two hits, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wright had two hits.  Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk, Granderson had two hits and two RBI and Josh Satin drew two walks.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, Ruben Tejada drew a walk and Lagares hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Murphy was caught stealing, Tejada committed an error and Young had two outfield assists. 

Charlie Blackmon had three hits and two RBI, Nolan Arenado had a hit and drew a walk and Troy Tulowitzki had three hits and three RBI.  Justin Morneau had two hits and two RBI, Wilin Rosario had one hit and two RBI.  Corey Dickerson had an RBI, Brandon Barnes had a hit and DJ LeMahieu drew a walk.  De La Rosa had a hit and Wheeler had a hit.  Morneau and Barnes each hit a double, Blackmon hit a homerun and the Rockies were 5-10 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first a wild pitch gave the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Tulowitzki had an RBI single, Morneau hit an RBI double, Rosario had an RBI single and Dickerson hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rockies a 4-1 lead.  In the second Tulowitzki hit a two run single giving the Rockies a 6-1 lead.  Blackmon hit an RBI groundout in the fourth extending the lead to 7-1.  Granderson hit a two run homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the seventh Blackmon hit a solo homerun, Morneau hit an RBI single and Rosario hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rockies a 10-3 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Rockies have won the first two games of this four game set.  The two teams will play game three on Saturday night.

The New York Yankees fall in extras to the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-5.  Vidal Nuno started and wasn't great, the bullpen was very good until Chris Leroux.  Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with four hits, Brian Roberts and Alfonso  Soriano each had three hits.  The offense blew many chances though in extras to score the winning run. 

Nuno pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out two.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and had three strikeouts, Preston Claiborne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two walks and had a strikeout and Matt Thornton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  David Robertson pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Shawn Kelley pitched two innings giving up a hit and struck out three and Adam Warren pitched two innings giving up four hits and had two strikeouts.  Leroux had his first loss pitching an inning and giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts. 

David Price pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and two runs.  He struck out eight.  Joel Peralta pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs, Oviedo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Brandon Gomes pitched two innings giving up a hit.  Heath Bell won his first game pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up four hits and a walk.  Josh Lueke pitched an inning and gave up a hit. 

Ellsbury had four hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had two hits and Mark Teixeira had two hits and an RBI.  Alfonso Soriano had three hits and an RBI, Brian McCann had two hits and two RBI and Brian Roberts had three hits.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit, John Ryan Murphy had a hit and Murphy hit a double.  McCann, Soriano and Teixeira each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-13 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Ellsbury and Roberts each had a stolen base and Ellsbury was picked off. 

Ben Zobrist had a hit, Desmond Jennings had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Evan Longoria had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wil Myers had three hits and two RBI, Sean Rodriguez had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and James Loney had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brandon Guyer had a hit and an RBI, Logan Forsythe had an RBI and Matt Joyce drew a walk.  Yunel Escobar had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ryan Hanigan had two hits and an RBI, Rodriguez hit two doubles and Longoria hit a triple.  Jennings hit a homerun and the Rays were 7-18 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Jennings had two stolen bases, Zobrist had a stolen base and Bell committed an error.  Gomes was picked off. 

In the second Loney hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  McCann hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second.  Myers hit an RBI single in the fourth and Forsythe hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rays a 3-2 lead in the fourth.  In the fifth Jennings hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 4-2 lead.  The Yankees hit back-to-back homeruns to tie the game in the eighth.  Teixeira and Soriano hit the homeruns.  In the ninth Longoria hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 5-4 lead.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth.  In the 14th the Rays scored five runs to win the game. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.
