New York Mets lose in extra innings to the San Francisco Giants


The New York Mets were defeated by the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 9-3.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched well, the bullpen wasn’t able to hold the lead.  Wilson Ramos had three hits and Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis each had two to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Seth Lugo pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out one, Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three and Robert Gsellman lost his first game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up three hits and five runs with two walks.  Hector Santiago pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Madison Bumgarner pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Sam Dyson pitched an inning with a strikeout, Tony Watson pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Mark Melancon pitched an inning with a strikeout and he won his second game of the season.  Derek Holland pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Jeff McNeil had a hit, Alonso had two hits and an RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Davis had two hits and drew a walk, Ramos had three hits and two RBI and Todd Frazier had a hit and drew a walk.  Ramos hit a homerun and Alonso hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Conforto and Alonso each committed an error and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Joe Panik had two hits, Mike Yastrzemski had a hit and an RBI, Evan Longoria had a hit and drew a walk.   Tyler Austin had a hit, Brandon Belt had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Stephen Vogt had two hits and two RBI.  Kevin Pillar had a hit and an RBI, Brandon Crawford drew two walks and Steven Duggar had two hits and two RBI.  Bumgarner drew a walk and Pablo Sandoval had two hits and two RBI.  Duggar, Belt, Sandoval and Vogt each hit a double.  the Giants were 7-16 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Panik had a stolen base and Vogt was caught stealing. 

In the fourth Pillar hit an RBI single and Duggar hit an RBI single to give the Giants a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Alonso hit a solo homerun and Ramos hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh Belt hit an RBI double to tie the game at three.  In the tenth Vogt hit a two-run double, Duggar hit an RBI double and Sandoval hit a two-run double.  Yastrzemski hit an RBI single and the lead was 9-3 which would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees lose to the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 4-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he had one bad inning.  Luke Voit and Aaron Hicks each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out two and lost his fifth game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Chad Green pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Clayton Richard pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Thomas Pannone pitched 1/3 of an inning with two walks and he won his second game of the season, Daniel Hudson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Joe Biagini pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Ken Giles pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with three strikeouts.  Giles saved his 11th game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Voit had two hits and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Hicks had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and Clint Frazier had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Cameron Maybin drew a walk and Kendrys Morales drew a walk.  Hicks, LeMahieu and Sanchez each hit a double and Hicks and Frazier each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.   

Eric Sogard had three hits, Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI and Justin Smoak had a hit and drew a walk.  Rowdy Tellez had a hit, Randal Grichuk had a hit and an RBI and Cavin Biggio drew a walk.  Freddy Galvis had a hit and two RBI, Sogard hit a double and Galvis and Grichuk each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Biggio had a stolen base. 

In the fourth Frazier hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Grichuk hit a solo homerun and Galvis hit a two-run homerun to give the Jays a 3-2 lead.  Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 4-2.  In the eighth Hicks hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-3 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees fail to sweep the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-5.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Luis Cessa out of the pen didn’t pitch well and Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier led the offense with two hits each. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with eight strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his second game of the season.  Cessa pitched an inning giving up five hits and five runs with a walk and David Hale pitched two innings giving up a hit. 

David Price won his third game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Heath Hembree pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out one, Matt Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Brandon Workman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and saved his second game of the season.

Andrew Benintendi had two hits and an RBI, J.D. Martinez had two hits and an RBI and Xander Bogaerts had two hits and an RBI.  Rafael Devers had a hit and an RBI, Christian Vasquez had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Chavis had two hits and an RBI.  Eduardo Nunez had two hits and an RBI and Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI.  Bogaerts hit a double and Chavis hit a triple.  Martinez and Bogaerts each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Benintendi was caught stealing and Bogaerts committed an error. 

In the first Martinez hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nunez hit an RBI single to push their lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Bogaerts hit a solo homerun making it a 3-0 game.  In the bottom of the fourth Voit hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 and Urshela hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the seventh Nunez hit an RBI single, Holt hit an RBI single and Benintendi hit an RBI single to extend their lead to 6-2.  In the eighth Devers hit an RBI single and Chavis hit an RBI triple to make it 8-2.  In the bottom of the eighth a balk made it 8-3, Hicks hit an RBI ground out and Torres hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 8-5 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees won two out of three in the series and will be off on Monday before heading to Toronto for a three-game series to begin on Tuesday night. 

New York Mets are wiped out in Arizona


The New York Mets were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.  The game took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and the final score was 7-1.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  Amed Rosario had three hits and Wilson Ramos had two hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Matz lost his fourth game of the season and he pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Wilmer Font pitched a perfect inning, Hector Santiago pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and Tyler Bashlor pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one. 

Merrill Kelly pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked none and struck out ten and won his fifth game of the season.  Archie Bradley pitched to one batter and got him out and Stefan Crichton pitched a perfect inning and struck out one. 

Rosario had three hits, Ramos had two hits and an RBI and Matz had a hit.  Ramos hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Davis committed an error. 

Ketel Marte had two hits and three RBI, Tim Locastro had a hit and drew a walk and Eduardo Escobar had two hits and two RBI.  Adam Jones had a hit, Christian Walker had two hits and an RBI and Ildemaro Vargas had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Carson Kelly drew a walk, Kevin Cron drew a walk and Walker and Vargas each hit a double.  Escobar and Marte each hit a homerun and the Diamondbacks were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Kelly had a passed ball. 

In the first Marte hit a solo homerun and Escobar hit a two-run homerun to give the Diamondbacks a 3-0 lead.  In the second Ramos hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Walker hit an RBI single and Vargas hit an RBI single to make it a 5-1 game.  In the eighth Marte hit a two-run single to push the lead to 7-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will be off on Monday and come home to take on the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.
