The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon.
The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the
final score was 6-1. Jordan Montgomery
started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well although it was just one bad
inning. Brett Gardner, Starlin Castro
and Clint Frazier each had two hits to lead the inning.
Montgomery pitched six innings
giving up seven hits and six runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Montgomery lost his fifth game of the season. Chad Green pitched an inning with a walk and
he struck out two and Tommy Kahnle pitched a perfect inning with a couple of
strikeouts.
Jose Berrios started for the Twins
and he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and
five strikeouts. Berrios won his ninth
game of the season. Tyler Duffey pitched
to one batter and struck him out, Taylor Rogers pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out one and Trevor Hildenberger pitched a perfect inning with
a strikeout.
Gardner had two hits and an RBI,
Castro had two hits and Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew a walk. C. Frazier had two hits, Austin Romine drew a
walk and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine
men on base. Gardner was caught
stealing.
Brian Dozier had a hit and drew two
walks, Eduardo Escobar had a hit and an RBI and Miguel Sano had a hit and three
RBI. Chris Gimenez had a hit, Ehire
Adrianza had two hits and Zack Granite had a hit and two RBI. Dozier, Adrianza each hit a double and Sano
hit a homerun. The Twins were 3-7 with
runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Grossman committed an error.
In the second Granite hit a two-run
single, Escobar hit an RBI single and Sano hit a three-run homerun to take a
6-0 lead. In the seventh Gardner hit an
RBI single to cut the lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score.
The Yankees lost two out of three
to the Twins and will head to Seattle for a four game series.
