New York Yankees complete the four game Subway Series sweep


The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-5.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  Gary Sanchez led the offense with five RBI. 

Severino pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked three and struck out nine and earned his 10th game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Bryan Mitchell pitched giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and he didn’t record an out and Dellin Betances picked up his eighth save of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Steven Matz lost his seventh game of the season pitching 3 1/3 innings and giving up seven hits and seven runs with six of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  Chasen Bradford pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two and AJ Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and two RBI, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Sanchez had two hits and five RBI.  Didi Gregorius had two hits and drew a walk, Tyler Austin had two hits and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Severino had his first career major league hit, Gardner hit a double and Sanchez hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Judge committed an error. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, four RBI and drew two walks, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Travis d’Arnaud had two hits, Matt Reynolds had two hits and an RBI and Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a walk.  Cabrera and d’Arnaud each hit a double and Granderson hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Matz committed an error. 

In the first Sanchez hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the fourth Gardner hit a two-run double to push the lead to 5-0.  Sanchez hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-0.  In the seventh Reynolds hit an RBI single to make it a 7-1 game and in the bottom of the ninth Granderson hit a grand slam to make it 7-5 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took all four games in the Subway Series.  They head to Boston for a big three game series with the Red Sox four games back in the AL east.  They gained a game and a half in the last week since the Red Sox left town. 

Yankees win third straight over the New York Mets


The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Aaron Judge, Chase Headley and Ronald Torreyes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Garcia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out three.  Tommy Khanle won his second game of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both, Adam Warren pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and David Robertson saved his 14th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Robert Gsellman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out two.  Paul Sewald lost his fifth game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks, Chasen Bradford pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he had a strikeout and Josh Smoker pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Judge had two hits and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Headley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Garett Cooper had an RBI, Torreyes had two hits and Headley, Torreyes and Gregorius each hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

Juan Lagares had two hits, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud had an RBI and Amed Rosario drew a walk.  Rene Rivera had a hit and an RBI, Gsellman had a hit and drew a walk and Lagares and Conforto each hit a double.  Rivera hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rivera had a passed ball. 

In the first Cespedes hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Cooper hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Rivera hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Headley hit a sac fly giving the Yankees back the lead at 3-2.  d’Arnaud hit a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at three.  In the seventh Gregorius hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead.  The final score was 5-3 as the Yankees have taken the first three games of the four game Subway Series.  The final game will be on Thursday night. 

New York Yankees survive and hold off the New York Mets for the win


The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was good except for Aroldis Chapman who almost blew another save.  Didi Gregorius, Gary Sanchez and Ronald Torreyes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gray won his seventh game of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Chapman earned his 16th save pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Jacob deGrom pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Chasen Bradford pitched to one batter and got him out.

In the third Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Ellsbury hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  In the seventh Smith hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the eighth Sanchez hit a sac fly to make it 5-2.  In the ninth Rosario hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 5-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two games of the series and they will now head to Citi Field for the next two nights. 

New York Yankees double up the New York Mets


The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was great.  Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched 2 2/3 innings with a walk and four strikeouts, David Robertson earned his sixth win of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk with three strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and recorded his seventh save of the season. 

Rafael Montero pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Hansel Robles lost his fourth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts, Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him and Erik Goeddel pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.

In the third Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Cespedes hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Sanchez hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Judge hit a homerun to tie the game at two.  In the eighth Hicks hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead and Sanchez hit a solo homerun to make it 4-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of two at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.  They will then shift to Citi Field for two more games there. 


New York Mets defeat the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Chris Flexen started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen did a great job and Curtis Granderson paced the offense with three hits and three RBI. 

Flexen won his second game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Chasen Bradford pitched a perfect inning, Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Paul Sewald pitched a perfect inning.  AJ Ramos pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Zach Eflin pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  Eflin lost his fourth game of the season.  Jesen Therrien pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Edubray Ramos pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He struck out one and Adam Morgan pitched two innings giving up two hits and no runs with three strikeouts. 

Granderson had three hits and three RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI, Dominic Smith had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit.  Jose Reyes had two hits, Amed Rosario had a hit and Granderson and Reyes each hit a double.  Conforto and Granderson each hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Cesar Hernandez had two hits, Freddy Galvis had a hit and drew a walk and Odubel Herrera had a hit and drew two walks.  Rhys Hoskins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Nick Williams drew a walk and Jorge Alfaro had two hits.  Hernandez hit a double and the Phillies were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ramos committed an error. 

In the first Conforto hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Hoskins grounded into a force out and a run scored to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Granderson hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth a wild pitch cut the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Granderson hit an RBI single to make it a 5-2 game and Flores hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets will begin the Subway series at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.

New York Mets lose to the Philadelphia Phillies as their offense is silent


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 3-1.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  The Mets offense only managed three hits. 

Matz lost his sixth game of the season pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Chasen Bradford pitched 1 1/3 perfect with a strikeout and Erik Goedeel pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout. 

Aaron Nola pitched seven innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Nola won his ninth game of the season.  Ricardo Pinto pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts, Hoby Milner pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Luis Garcia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a strikeout and he saved his second game of the season. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Jose Reyes drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI.  Michael Conforto drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Amed Rosario had a hit.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Rosario hit a double and Cespedes hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Rosario was caught stealing.

In the fourth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Hernandez hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Galvis hit an RBI single to give them a 2-1 lead and in the eighth Joseph hit a sac fly to push the lead to 3-1. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees blew a game to the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2 in ten innings.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen pitched well also until Aroldis Chapman blew the save.  The Yankees offense didn’t produce much. 

Montgomery pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  David Robertson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Chapman blew his fourth save of the season and lost his second game of the season.  Chapman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Chris Sale pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and 12 strikeouts.  Matt Barnes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks, Robby Scott pitched to one batter and struck him out and Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Craig Kimbrel won his fourth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings striking out two. 

Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Todd Frazier had an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Ronald Torreyes drew a walk.  Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI, Romine hit a triple and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Judge and Hicks each had a stolen base. 

Eduardo Nunez drew a walk, Mookie Betts drew a walk and Andrew Benintendi had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hanley Ramirez drew a walk, Rafael Devers had a hit and an RBI and Xander Bogaerts drew a walk.  Brock Holt had a hit and drew a walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit and an RBI and Devers hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the fifth Bradley hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Romine hit an RBI triple to tie the game at one.  T. Frazier hit a sac fly in the eighth to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the ninth Devers hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the tenth Benintendi hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and are now 51/2 games back in the AL East but still in the first wild card spot.   

New York Yankees are roughed up by the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-5.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched poorly.  Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Severino lost his fifth game of the season pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits and ten runs.  He gave up eight earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gio Gallegos pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out four and Bryan Mitchell pitched two innings giving up three hits. 

Drew Pomeranz won his 12th game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Brandon Workman pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Robby Scott pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs.

In the first Sanchez hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees the lead.  In the third Betts hit a two-run single to tie the game at two.  Benintendi hit a three-run homerun to give the Bosox a 5-2 lead.  In the fourth Ellsbury hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the fifth Benintendi hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 8-3.  Devers hit a two-run double to push the lead to 10-3.  In the ninth Headley and Ellsbury each hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 10-5 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday night.

The New York Yankees rally to defeat the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Aaron Hicks led the offense with a couple of hits and RBI. 

Garcia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Adam Warren won his third game of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and striking out two and Aroldis Chapman earned his 15th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a run and three walks. 

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Matt Barnes pitched an inning with a walk, Addison Reed lost his third game of the season pitching no innings and giving up two hits and four runs with a walk and he didn’t record an out.  Joe Kelly pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Fernando Abad pitched to one batter and retired him.

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
