I know this is old but I didn't mention the death of Rockies President Keli McGregor. They say it was natural causes but he was young. It seems mysterious and we may never know or at least for a long time what the real story is. There will be a memorial service for him on Sunday and the Rockies moved the start time of their game back to accomodate everyone so they will be able to be there. Edison Volquez was suspended for 50 games for failing a drug test that was positive for the use of a performance enhancing drug. I don't think we will ever get away from this talk. I think the game has been cleaned up but there are still players doing it or HGH and there is always a big name that comes out that he was on something. I think most people are sick of this stuff though and just don't care. The thing I dont get though is how Volquez who is on the DL has that count for the 50 games. I think it has to be 50 games that you are active for. Manny Ramirez went on the 15 day DL today with a calf injury. Justin Smoak the young first base prospect of the Texas Rangers was called up yesterday. Congratulations to Ubalda Jimenez who had a no hitter last week. He is 4-0 after a shutout in his next start the other day. Jason Marquis of the Nationals was placed on the DL on wednesday with bone chips in his elbow.

Regular Season Game 13-Yankees at A's

The New York Yankees begin a 3 game series with the Oakland A's tonight and the start of a long 9 game roadtrip. Javier Vazquez starts tonight and is the only Yankees starter witout a win. He will face Gio Gonzalez. The A's have gotten off to a suprising start at 9-5, here are the notes and lineups for tonights game. Yankees Lineup: Jeter(SS) Johnson(DH) Tex(1B) A-rod(3B) Cano(2B) Posada(C) Swisher(RF) Granderson(CF) Gardner(LF) A's Lineup: Davis(CF) Barton(1B) Sweeney(RF) Kouzmanoff(3B) Suzuki(C) Chavez(DH) Ellis(2B) Buck(LF) Pennington(SS) Joe Girardi said that he expected Chan Ho Park to play catch at some point today. Gardner is in the lineup against the left hander today. He has faced Gonzalez quite a bit also in the minor leagues but Joe Girardi didn't realize he has had success against him. He is in the lineup because he has been playing well lately. Before the game while both teams were stretching the Yankees called former teammates Chad Gaudin and Edwar Ramirez over. The Yankees surrounded them and gave them their rings and had some fun with them. Nick Swisher is 0 for his last 16 and went 1 for 19 in the past homestand. The Yankees are sticking with him though in RF and Joe Girardi said that he has probably hit about 10 line drives in his past 4 games and has nothing to show for it. I don't know how long they will stick with him but maybe if this continues they will let Winn play a couple of games. Enjoy the game it starts at 10:05 eastern time on the yes network. It will be a late night so I don't know if I will have any more posts tonight or get my articles in for world news vine. IF not please check back tomorrow for all of your information from the game, enjoy the game.

Mets L"IKE" what they see

The Mets got the boost they were hoping for with Ike Davis making his debut this evening. They defeated the Chicago Cubs by the score of 6-1. Rookie Jon Niese got the start and pitched well going 5 2/3 innings giving up 8 hits and 1 unearned run. He did walk 3 batters but struck out 7. Fernando Nieve got the win pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up 1 hit. Jenrry Mejia pitched 2 hitless and scoreless innings giving up 2 walks, he did strike out 2 batters. Ike Davis had 2 hits including a rbi single. Angel Pagan had the big blow a 2 run homerun in the7th inning to break the tie and give the Mets the lead they wouldn't relinquish. Jason Bay had a couple of hits including a rbi double. David Wright had a hit and another walk to add to his major league lead in that category. The Mets will send Mike Pelfrey to the hill tomorrow against Carlos Zambrano in game 2 of the series. Ike Davis got a face full of shaving cream in the dugout. He said it is easier to blend in with the team since he knows them from spring training and that it is a good group of guys and they all welcome him.

Regular Season Game 13-Cubs at Mets

The New York Mets return home tonight to take on the Chicago Cubs. They will try to win their first series of the year. Here are some of the notes and lineups for tonights game. Ike Davis the Mets big time first base prospect has been called up and Tobi Stoner was sent down to AAA Buffalo. The Mets have lost their first 4 series to start the year. The last time they failed to win one of their first four series was in 1997. They had 2 longer streaks losing their first 6 series in 1962 and their first 7 in 1964. That was when they first came into being though. The Mets are one of only two teams that have yet to allow an unearned run. The other team is the Minnesota Twins. The Mets have 9 homers in their first 12 games ranking 23rd in the majors in that category. The only teams with fewer are Detroit, Washington, Oakland, Seattle and Houston. David Wright leads the majors in walks this season with 17, he also has 10 hits being one of 11 players to have double digits in both categories. He is the only one with more walks then hits. The Mets bullpen leads the national league and is second in the majors in era. They have a 2.34 era. 27 french high school students will be attending the game tonight. They are grounded in NY due to the volcanic eruption in iceland and can't get back home. They are staying at the Laguardia Marriot and are guests of the Mets tonight. Mets catchers have thrown out 3 of 6 base stealers which is tied for best in the majors. Mets Lineup: Pagan(CF) Castillo(2B) Wright(3B) Bay(LF) Francoeur(RF) Davis(1B) Barajas(C) Cora(SS) Niese(P)

Mets blow lead and end trip on sour note

The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-3 this evening. They led 3-0 mostly with the help of poor defense by the Cardinals. John Maine pitched better but once again his pitch count was up to 115 in 5 innings. He gave up a 3 run homerun to Colby Rasmus in the 5th inning. The Mets offense once again was no where to be found. They didn't do anything with Adam Wainwright after scoring 3 runs. They had 4 hits all game and they just haven't been able to get it going offensively. Jason Bay has started off bad and Jeff Francoeur after being so hot has not had a hit in the last 2 games. Jose Reyes is still in spring training mode and although Wright has hit a couple of homeruns he isn't doing much either. The Mets are expected to call up super 1st base prospect Ike Davis tomorrow and see if that injects some life into them. If they don't win on this homstand the manager will get fired and maybe even the general manager. The question is who would come in to take over. The rumblings right now are Bob Melvin or Bobby Valentine. If Valentine comes in then most likely it would be a whole new staff including general manger but if it is Melvin then maybe Omar Minaya will buy some time. It will be a interesting week and the Mets better get some wins.

Yankees Postgame Notes

The big topic was Derek Jeter and here are some quotes courtesy of Josh Thomson of the Journal News. Derek Jeter turned around and saw a swarm of reporters and had a bemused smile on his face. He couldn't understand it, it is just a cold after all. He said "It's really not a big deal." He was asked if he wanted to play today and answered with "What do you think." He was asked if he would play Tuesday in Oakland and said "Yes, I could have played today but you have 2 days, so that is pretty much it." Here is what Ramiro Pena said regarding his 2 run single. "I tried to get a good pitch. I didn't hit it that good exactly, but it is still a hit. It felt good, I got the oppurtunity to play and I just tried to do my job, that's it." There was nothing else going on postgame as it has been a serene year so far for the Yankees. It was like that all spring and has continued into the season. They just go out there and do their job everyday and come up with a win usually and move on to the next game. It is great to see and this game hasn't even hit their stride yet, it is pretty scary to think that they could get better.

Regular Season Game 12-Mets at Cardinals

The New York Mets designated Mike Jacobs for assignment and called up pitcher Tobi Stoner. I think that is the best name in baseball, after yesterdays marathon they wanted to have a fresh arm which makes sense. The Mets will play at 8:05 tonight, i will have the notes and lineups a little later. Mets Lineup: Reyes(SS) Cora(2B) Wright(3B) Catalanotto(1B) Francoeur(RF) Matthews(CF) Barajas(C) Pagan(LF) Maine(P) Cards Lineup: Schumaker(2B) Ludwick(RF) Pujols(1B) Holliday(RF) Rasmus(CF) Molina(C) Freese(3B) Ryan(SS) Wainwright(P) Enjoy the game tonight on ESPN, hopefully since it starts at 8:00PM it won't be like yesterdays game. I don't think any of us can make it for too many hours tonight.

Yankees complete the sweep

The New York Yankees completed the 3 game sweep over the Texas Rangers today by the score of 5-2. The Rangers came in to the series with the lowest era in baseball and left shaking their heads. The Yankees the last 2 days have been able to knock out the starting pitcher in the 4th inning. They take so many pitches and foul pitches off that they drive you crazy. Andy Pettitte got the start and went 8 strong innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. He appeared to be struggling early but grinded it out and really finished strong. He only threw 16 pitches in the 6th and 7th innings. Mariano Rivera got his 5th save in 5 chances with a 1-2-3 ninth, he had 2 strikeouts. Mark Teixeira who has been struggling had a solo home run and hit the ball hard a couple of other times. Alex Rodriguez walked 3 times and had a single. Ramiro Pena who was filling in for a ailing Derek Jeter had a 2 out 2 run single. Brett Gardner had 2 hits, a walk and 2 stolen bases in the leadoff spot. Jorge Posada had 2 more hits with one of them being a solo home run. The Yankees once again did not commit a error. It was the 10th straight game they didn't have a error. They set the record last year with 18 straight. The Yankees will now head to the west coast to play the A's and Angels and then play 3 games against the Orioles.

Regular Season Game 12-Rangers at Yankees

The New York Yankees will go for the sweep this afternoon at the Stadium. The game is at 1:05PM on the yes network. The weather looks beautiful out although it is a little chillly. The Yankees have won their first 4 series for the first time since 1926 so they are off to one of their best starts ever. Here are the lineups and some notes. Andy Pettitte will take on Rich Harden in the pitching matchup. Mark Teixeira who is 4-40 on the season is hoping that that broken bat rbi single in yesterdays game will get him going. Today marks the 87th anniversary of the original opening of the Old Yankee Stadium. April 18, 1923. Rangers Lineup: Andrus(SS) Young(3B) Hamilton(CF) Guerrero(DH) Cruz(RF) Garko(1B) Murphy(LF) Treanor(C) Blanco(2B) Yankees Lineup: Gardner(LF) Johnson(DH) Tex(1B) A-rod(3B) Cano(2B) Posada(C) Granderson(CF) Swisher(RF) Pena(SS) Alex Rodriguez moved into sole possesion of 8th place on the all time homerun list ahead of Mark McGwire. Jorge Posada recorded his 1500th hit of his career. He is the 19th Yankee to do it and 4th whose primary position was catcher. The Yankees are tied for third in the AL with 11 stolen bases. They have become more of a running team and manufacturing runs although they still hit for power.

Mets Win Wild One in 20 Innings | Breaking News WorldNewsVine

Here is my article on yesterdays wild Mets game. It was a scoreless game into the 19th inning. The Mets got a much needed victory and maybe this will turn their season around. Mets Win Wild One in 20 Innings Breaking News WorldNewsVine

Mets win a wild one

What can I say that game was unbelievable. The Mets defeated the Cardinals in 20 innings by the score of 2-1. There were position players pitching and pitchers playing the outfield. There was no score until the 19th inning when Jeff Francoeur hit a sac fly and then the Cardinals came right back to tie it. The Mets won it in the 20th on a Jose Reyes sac fly. The Mets have had these type of games in their history. The longest one in their history was in 1974 at Shea Stadium when they lost 4-3 to the Cardinals. They lost in 24 innings to the Houston Astros in 1968. It was the longest scoreless game in history. The Cardinals had plenty of chances but couldn't come through. Mike Pelfrey who started on Thursday closed out the game for the Mets. K-rod blew the save but was up in the bullpen a bunch of times. He said he was just gassed from getting up and sitting down so many times. The two teams will play tomorrow night at 8:05PM eastern time in Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. I wonder what they will do for an encore?? I will have my article I wrote for Worldnewsvine on here probably tomorrow morning.
