The New York Mets win a close one over the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Zach Wheeler started and pitched well and Eric Campbell hit a three run homerun. 

Wheeler pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked four and struck out ten and earned his eighth win of the season.  Vic Black pitched to one batter and struck him out, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he earned his 18th save of the season. 

Travis Wood lost his 10th game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked four and struck out five.  Justin Grimm pitched 2/3 of an inning, Wesley Wright pitched an inning with two walks and Pedro Strop pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two.

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright drew a walk.  Lucas Duda drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and drew a walk and Campbell had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Wilmer Flores drew a walk and Ruben Tejada drew a walk.  Campbell hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Chris Coughlan drew a walk, Javier Baez had a hit and Anthony Rizzo had an RBI and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI, Welington Castillo had a hit and drew a walk and Ryan Sweeney drew a walk.  Wood drew a walk and the Cubs were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Sweeney and Coughlan each had an outfield assist. 

In the third Rizzo hit an RBI groundout and Castro hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Cubs.  In the fourth Campbell hit a three run homerun to make it 3-2 Mets and that would be all the scoring.  The Mets took the first game of three, 3-2.  The two teams will play on Saturday night. 

New York Yankees skid hits five as they lose in Tampa Bay



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 5-0.  Brandon McCarthy started and pitched pretty well.  The Yankees offense as usual couldn't get anything going. 

McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four runs on seven hits but only two runs were earned.  He walked one and struck out seven and lost his 12th game of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Alex Cobb won his eighth game of the season pitching 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Brad Boxberger pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Joel Peralta pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Derek Jeter had two hits and Mark Teixeira had two hits.  Chase Headley had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Francisco Cervelli had a hit.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Drew and Headley each committed an error. 

Desmond Jennings had two hits, Ben Zobrist had a hit and an RBI and Matt Joyce drew a walk.  Evan Longoria had a hit and an RBI, Curt Casali had a hit and an RBI and Kevin Kiermaier had a hit.  Loney hit a homerun and the Rays were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jennings had a stolen base.

The Rays scored two runs in the first and never looked back.  Longoria and Loney each grounded out scoring a run.  In the seventh Casali hit an RBI single, Zobrist grounded out to score another run and make it 4-0.  Loney hit a solo homerun in the eighth and that completed the scoring at 5-0 Rays.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Mets continue to lose at home to the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Bartolo Colon pitched well, David Wright, Travis d'arnaud and Matthew den Dekker each had two hits. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out eight and lost his 10th game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit, a run and a walk and Vic Black pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Jordan Zimmerman pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and an unearned run.  He walked none and struck out four and earned his eighth win of the season.  Drew Storen pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Rafael Soriano saved his 27th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up three hits and a run. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Wright had two hits and Lucas Duda had a hit.  d'Arnaud had two hits and an RBI, den Dekker had two hits and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  d'arnaud hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Young Jr. had a stolen base and Lagares committed an error. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI, Anthony Rendon had a hit and Adam LaRoche had a hit and drew two walks.  Ian Desmond had a hit, Bryce Harper had a hit and an RBI and Wilson Ramos had two hits.  Kevin Frandsen had a hit and an RBI, Ramos and LaRoche each had a double and Cabrera hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.   LaRoche had a stolen base and committed an error.  Frandsen and Ramos each committed an error and Frandsen had an outfield assist. 

D'Arnaud reached on a fielding error and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Harper had a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one and Frandsen hit a sacrifice fly to give the Nats a 2-1 lead.  Cabrera hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it a 3-1 game.  d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun in the ninth to cut the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score.  The Mets have lost two straight to the Nationals and will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday night.  They have lost 10 straight at home to the Washington Nationals. 

The New York Yankees are swept in a short two game series in Baltimore



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 5-3.  Michael Pineda made the start and pitched well, the bullpen had a bad eighth inning and the offense didn't do much as usual. 

Pineda pitched five innings giving up one run on two hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out four.  Dellin Betances pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with four strikeouts and Shawn Kelley took the loss, his fourth of the season.  Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs and walked a batter. 

Chris Tillman pitched seven innings giving up two runs on five hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out three.  Darren O'Day pitched an inning giving up a walk and struck out one and he won his fourth game of the season.  Zach Britton saved his 25th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI, Stephen Drew had a hit and Francisco Cervelli had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Drew and Beltran each hit a double and Cervelli hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Cervelli had a stolen base.

Nick Markakis had a hit, Chris Davis drew a walk and Adam Jones had a hit and three RBI.  Nelson Cruz had a hit, Steve Pearce had a hit and Ryan Flaherty had an RBI.  Jonathan Schoop had a hit and an RBI, Hundley had a hit and Cruz hit a double.  Schoop and Jones each hit a homerun and the Orioles were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the third Cervelli hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  The Orioles cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth on a Flaherty sacrifice fly.  In the eighth Schoop hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two and then Jones hit a three run homerun to give the Orioles a 5-2 lead.  The Yankees scored a run in the ninth on a Headley RBI groundout and the final score was 5-3.  The Yankees lost both games to the Orioles and will now have the day off on Thursday.  They will begin a three game series in Tampa Bay on Friday night. 

The New York Mets take the rubber game over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-3 Mets.  Jonathan Niese started and pitched pretty well and Daniel Murphy had two hits. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked three and struck out six and won his sixth game of the season.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Buchanan pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out five and lost his sixth game of the season.  Justin De Fratus pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs, Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Cesar Jimenez pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Murphy had two hits, David Wright had a hit and an RBI and Juan Lagares drew a walk.  Matt den Dekker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Anthony Recker had a hit and three RBI.  Niese had a hit, Murphy and den Dekker each hit a double.  Recker hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base and an outfield assist. 

Wright hit an RBI single in the fourth to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Ruf hit a two run homerun to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh den Dekker hit an RBI double and Recker hit a three run homerun to give the Mets a 5-2 lead. In the ninth Utley hit an RBI double to make it 5-3 and that was the final score.  The Mets took three of four in the series.  They will begin a three game series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees are blown out in Baltimore



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.  The final score was 11-3 Orioles.  Chris Capuano started for the Yankees and was ok, the bullpen was not good.  The offense had a 3-1 lead and then shut down.  They only had one hit after and none after the fifth inning. 

Capuano pitched six innings giving up four runs on six hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out seven and lost his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout, Chase Whitley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and Rich Hill retired the only batter that he faced. 

Bud Norris won his 10th game of the season pitching five innings giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout, Darren O'Day pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two walks and a strikeout and Andrew Miller faced one batter and retired him.  Tommy Hunter pitched a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Derek Jeter had a hit and an RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and drew two walks and Martin Prado had a hit.  Francisco Cervelli had a hit, Jeter hit a double and Gardner hit a triple.  The Yankees were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Beltran, Headley and Ellsbury each had a stolen base. 

Nick Markakis had two hits, Manny Machado had a hit but then left the game with an injury and Chris Davis had two hits and two RBI.  Adam Jones had three hits and two RBI, Nelson Cruz had two hits and three RBI and David Lough had a hit and an RBI.  Joseph had a hit, Ryan Flaherty drew a walk and Jonathan Schoop had two hits and three RBI.  Machado, Markakis and Joseph each hit a double.  Jones hit two doubles, Davis, Cruz and Schoop each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 5-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Machado, Norris and Schoop each committed an error. 

In the first Jeter hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  The Orioles tied the game in the bottom of the first on a Cruz sacrifice fly.  The Yankees took a 3-1 lead in the second inning.  Beltran stole home, Headley stole second and scored on a throwing error.  In the third Jones hit an RBI single to make it a 3-2 game.  In the fifth Davis hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead.  The Orioles extended their lead to 7-3 in the seventh.  Jones hit an RBI single and Cruz a two run homerun.  In the eighth the Orioles scored four more runs to take an 11-3 lead and that would be the final score.  Schoop hit a three run homerun and Lough hit an RBI single.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.   

The New York Yankees offense struggles again in loss to the Cleveland Indians


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Hiroki Kuroda started and struggled with his control, the bullpen was pretty good.  The offense didn't produce anything until a ninth inning two out homerun. 
Kuroda pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three runs on five hits.  He walked four and struck out three and suffered his eighth loss of the season.  David Huff pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run.  He walked one, Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Bryan Mitchell made his major league debut.  He pitched two innings giving up a walk and striking out two. 
Carrasco won his fourth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up two hits.  He didn't give up a run or a walk and struck out four.  C.C. Lee pitched an inning striking out two, Scott Atchison pitched an inning giving up a hit and Bryan Shaw pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.   Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 
Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Stephen Drew had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit which was a double and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 
Jeff Kipnis had three hits, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Michael Brantley had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Santana drew a walk, Yan Gomes had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Lonnie Chisenhall drew a walk.  Zach Walters drew a walk, Chris Dickerson drew a walk and Kipnis hit a double.  The Indians were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Kipnis had a stolen base. 
In the first Brantley had an RBI single to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  In the third Brantley hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 game.  The Indians took a 3-0 lead in the fifth on a Gomes RBI walk.  Gomes hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it 4-0 and Ellsbury hit a solo homerun in the ninth to make it 4-1 and that was the final game.  The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and will now head to Baltimore to begin a three game series on Monday night.
