The New York Mets defeated the
Chicago Cubs on Friday night. The game
took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
3-2. Zach Wheeler started and pitched
well and Eric Campbell hit a three run homerun.
Wheeler pitched 6 2/3 innings
giving up four hits and two runs. He
walked four and struck out ten and earned his eighth win of the season. Vic Black pitched to one batter and struck
him out, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two
and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he earned his
18th save of the season.
Travis Wood lost his 10th game of
the season pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs. He walked four and struck out five. Justin Grimm pitched 2/3 of an inning, Wesley
Wright pitched an inning with two walks and Pedro Strop pitched an inning
giving up a walk and striking out two.
Curtis Granderson drew a walk,
Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright drew a walk. Lucas Duda drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a
hit and drew a walk and Campbell had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk. Juan Lagares had a hit, Wilmer Flores drew a
walk and Ruben Tejada drew a walk.
Campbell hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring
position and left six men on base.
Chris Coughlan drew a walk, Javier Baez
had a hit and Anthony Rizzo had an RBI and drew a walk. Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI, Welington
Castillo had a hit and drew a walk and Ryan Sweeney drew a walk. Wood drew a walk and the Cubs were 1-6 with
runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Sweeney and Coughlan each had an outfield
assist.
In the third Rizzo hit an RBI
groundout and Castro hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Cubs. In the fourth Campbell hit a three run homerun
to make it 3-2 Mets and that would be all the scoring. The Mets took the first game of three,
3-2. The two teams will play on Saturday
night.
