The New York Yankees postseason hopes on life support after a loss in Toronto


The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees on Thursday night. The final score was 6-2 and the game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched ok. Joba Chamberlain out of the pen put the game out of reach. The Yankees offense was anemic again.

Kuroda pitched six innings giving up eight hits and three runs with four walks and seven strikeouts. Joba Chamberlain gave up two hits and three runs and a walk without recording an out, Cesar Cabral pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Matt Daley pitched to one batter and retired him. David Phelps pitched a perfect inning.

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Robinson Cano had two hits. Alfonso Soriano had a hit and drew a walk, Vernon Wells had an RBI and drew a walk and Chris Stewart had a hit. Stewart and Cano each hit a double and Granderson hit a homerun. The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

Todd Redmond won his fourth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and a run. He walked one and struck out seven, Sergio Santos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Luis Perez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jeremy Jeffress pitched to one batter and walked him. Casey Janssen saved his 32nd game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning.

Jose Reyes had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Kawasaki had a hit and drew a walk and Brett Lawrie had a hit and an RBI. Adam Lind had two hits and three RBI, Colby Rasmus drew two walks and Moises Sierra had a hit and drew two walks. Anthony Gose had three hits and an RBI. Reyes and Gose each hit a double and Gose and Lind each hit a homerun. The Jays were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Gose had an outfield assist.

In the third Reyes hit an RBI double and Lawrie hit an RBI groundout giving the Jays a 2-0 lead. Granderson hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1 Jays. Gose hit a solo homerun in the sixth to make it 3-1 Jays. The Jays broke it open in the seventh with three runs. Lind hit a three run homerun to push the lead to 6-1. The Yankees scored a run in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Wells to make it 6-2 and that was the final score.

The Yankees lost two out of three in Toronto and five out of six on their road trip. Their record fell to 80-73. The Jays record improved to 70-82. The Yankees will host the San Francisco Giants for a three game series beginning on Friday night.

The San Francisco Giants defeated the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon. The final score was 2-1 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well and their offense only managed four hits.

Niese pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out four and lost his eighth game of the season. Scott Atchison pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Josh Satin had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Andrew Brown had a hit. Matthew den Dekker drew a walk, Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk and Omar Quintanilla had a hit. Zach Lutz drew a walk, Satin hit a double and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Madison Bumgarner pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and ten strikeouts. Bumgarner won his 13th game of the season. Jean Machi pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Santiago Casilla pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Javier Lopez earned his first save of the season. He pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one.

Tony Abreu had two hits, Hunter Pence drew a walk and Hector Sanchez had a hit. Joaquin Arias had a hit, Juan Perez had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Ehire Adrianza had a hit and an RBI. Sanchez and Abreu hit a double and the Giants were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Perez hit an RBI single in the fourth and Adrianza grounded into a force out scoring the second run to make it 2-0 Giants. The Mets scored their only run in the fourth on a Murphy RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. The final score was 2-1 Giants.

The Mets record fell to 68-84 and the Giants record improved to 71-82. The Mets will play the Philadelphia Phillies in a three game series beginning Friday night in Philly.

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night. The final score was 4-3 and the game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Phil Hughes started and was ok and the bullpen was good. The offense was asleep again most of the night. It awoke in the eighth inning for a big rally.

Hughes pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with two strikeouts. David Huff pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts, David Robertson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Mariano Rivera pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and striking out one. Rivera picked up his 44th save of the season.

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Robinson Cano had two hits and an RBI. Alfonso Soriano had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Vernon Wells had two hits and two RBI and Mark Reynolds drew a walk. Eduardo Nunez had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Brendan Ryan had a hit. Ryan, Soriano and Wells each hit a double and the Yankees were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Reynolds was caught stealing.

J.A. Happ pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts. Aaron Loup gave up a hit and a run without recording an out, Steve Delabar picked up his fifth loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Darren Oliver pitched 2/3 of an inning. Dustin McGowan pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Jose Reyes had a hit, Rajai Davis had a hit and Brett Lawrie had a hit. Adam Lind had a hit, Colby Rasmus had two hits and two RBI and Moises Sierra had a hit. Ryan Goins had a hit and an RBI, Reyes, Sierra and Lawrie each hit a double. Rasmus and Goins each hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Reyes and Davis each had a stolen base.

Rasmus hit a two run homerun and Goins hit his first major league homerun in the fourth. /The Jays had a 3-0 lead and then in the eighth the Yankees scored four runs. Cano hit an RBI single, Soriano an RBI double and Wells a two run double. The Yankees took a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees ended their four game losing streak and improved their record to 80-72. The Jays record fell to 69-82. The two teams will play the rubber game of three on Thursday night.

The San Francisco Giants defeated the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The final score was 8-5 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Zach Wheeler was just ok in probably his second to last start of the season. The bullpen was good and bad and Daniel Murphy and Josh Satin led the offense.

Wheeler pitched five innings giving up three hits and four runs with six walks and three strikeouts. Sean Henn lost his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Scott Atchison pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Gonzalez Germen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. Tim Byrdak pitched to one batter and retired him; Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout. David Aardsma pitched to two batters and struck them both out.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Murphy had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Lucas Duda drew two walks. Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, Mike Baxter drew a walk and Matthew den Dekker had a hit and an RBI. Anthony Recker had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk and Satin had two hits. Tejada, Flores and Murphy each hit a double and the Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Young had a stolen base and Lagares committed an error.

Yusmeiro Petit pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out one and won his fourth game of the season. Jean Machi pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Javier Lopez faced one batter and retired him and Santiago Casilla pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two. Sandy Rosario pitched giving up a walk and a run without recording an out and Sergio Romo pitched an inning giving up two hits.

Angel Pagan had three hits, three RBI and drew two walks, Gregor Blanco had a hit and an RBI and Brandon Belt had two hits. Buster Posey had an RBI and drew a walk, Hunter Pence had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Pablo Sandoval drew two walks. Brandon Crawford had a hit and drew two walks, Tony Abreu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Petit had an RBI and drew a walk. Abreu hit a double, Pagan hit a triple and a homerun and the Giants were 5-16 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Peguero had a stolen base, Posey and Crawford committed an error each and Pagan had an outfield assist.

Petit had an RBI walk, Pagan an RBI single and Blanco an RBI groundout in the second inning to give the Giants a 3-0 lead. Young hit an RBI groundout in the third to make it 3-1 Giants. In the fourth Flores hit an RBI double and den Dekker hit a two run single to make it a 4-3 Mets lead. Posey hit an RBI groundout in the fifth to tie the game at four and in the seventh Pagan hit a solo homerun giving the Giants a 5-4 lead. Abreu hit an RBI double and Pagan an RBI triple in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-4 Giants and Pence hit an RBI single in the ninth making it 8-4. Murphy hit an RBI single in the ninth to make it 8-5 and that was the final score.

The Mets record dropped to 67-83 and the Giants record improved to 70-81. The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. The final score was 2-0 and the game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Andy Pettitte started and was very good. The Yankees offense had chances in the first and second and then did nothing at all.

Pettitte pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts. Pettitte lost his 10th game of the season. Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up two hits.

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Robinson Cano had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit. Lyle Overbay had a hit and drew a walk, Mark Reynolds had a hit and Chris Stewart drew a walk. R.A. Dickey won his 13th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out eight. Sergio Santos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Casey Janssen saved his 31st game of the season. He pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side.

Rasmus hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Jays a 1-0 lead. In the seventh Davis hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 and that would be the final score. In the first inning the Yankees left the bases loaded and then first and second in the second inning. The Yankees never even came close to scoring after that.

The Yankees record fell to 79-72 and the Jays record improved to 69-81. The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 1-0 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen was excellent. Daniel Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud who each had two hits led the Mets offense.

Gee pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out eight. Pedro Feliciano pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one, Scott Atchison pitched to one batter and retired him and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit. Gonzalez Germen pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out five and Vic Black picked up his first win pitching a perfect inning.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Murphy had two hits. Lucas Duda drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and d’Arnaud had two hits and an RBI. Gee had a hit, Young hit a double and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Murphy was picked off and committed an error.

Tom Koehler pitched eight innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and five strikeouts. A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Chad Qualls pitched an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout. Zach Phillips gave up a hit and a run with two walks and didn’t record an out and Ryan Webb pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.

Chris Coughlan had a hit and drew a walk, Donovan Solano had a hit and Christian Yelich drew a walk. Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Justin Ruggiano had two hits and Logan Morrison had two hits. Ed Lucas had two hits, Ruggiano hit a double and Morrison hit a triple. The Marlins were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Ruggiano was caught stealing and Koehler had a pickoff.

In the 12th inning d’Arnaud hit an RBI single to win the game. It was the only run of the game as the Mets won 1-0 in 12 innings.

The Mets record improved to 67-82 and the Marlins record fell to 55-94. The Mets will have the day off on Monday.

The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees on Sunday night. The final score was 9-2 and the game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and wasn’t very good. The Yankees offense didn’t produce much.

Nova pitched four innings giving up six hits and five runs with four of them being earned. He walked four and struck out two. Nova took his fifth loss of the season, Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Cesar Cabral gave up a hit and Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Mike Zagurski made his Yankees debut and pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs, David Phelps pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Matt Thornton pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one, Craig Breslow pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Allen Webster pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk.

Dustin Pedroia had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Daniel Nava had four hits and an RBI and David Ortiz had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk. Mike Carp had an RBI, Mike Napoli had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit. Xander Bogaerts had two hits and drew a walk including a double, Pedroia hit a double and Nava hit two doubles. Napoli hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Saltalamacchia and Bogaerts each had a stolen base and Bucholz committed an error.

In the first Rodriguez hit an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The Red Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Ortiz hit an RBI single and Napoli hit a two run homerun. In the fourth Saltalamacchia stole home giving the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. In the fifth Carp was hit by a pitch to score another run and give the Red Sox a 5-1 lead. In the sixth Nava hit an RBI single and Ortiz hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 7-1. Pedroia hit a two run double in the seventh giving the Red Sox a 9-1 lead. Suzuki hit an RBI single in the ninth to make it 9-2 and that was the final score.

The Yankees lost three straight to the Red Sox and their record dropped to 79-71 and the Red Sox record improved to 92-59. The Yankees will have the day off on Monday and then begin a three game series in Toronto on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets split a doubleheader with the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon and night. The final scores were 3-0 and 3-1 and the games took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Carlos Torres started the day game and pitched pretty well and the bullpen did well. Matthew den Dekker had a couple of hits. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched the nightcap and pitched well. Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda each had two hits.

Torres lost his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up a hit, Tim Byrdak gave up a hit and a run without recording an out and Frank Francisco pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout. David Aardsma pitched to one batter and retired him and Greg Burke pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk.

Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk, den Dekker had two hits and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit. den Dekker hit a double and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

Henderson Alvarez pitched seven innings and gave up four hits and no runs with no walks and five strikeouts. Alavarez won his fourth game of the season, Chad Qualls pitched an inning and Pat Cishek saved his 30th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk and three strikeouts.

Placido Polanco had a hit, Donovan Solano had a hit and an RBI and Christian Yelich had two hits and drew a walk. Justin Ruggiano drew a walk, Logan Morrison had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Koyie Hill drew a walk. Alvarez had a hit, Yelich hit a double and Solano hit a homerun. The Marlins were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Yelich had two stolen bases.

Morrison hit an RBI single in the fourth to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. Solano hit a solo homerun in the sixth giving the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Morrison lined out and a run scored making it 3-0 Marlins and that was the final score.

In the nightcap Matsuzaka pitched seven innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts. Pedro Feliciano pitched to one batter and struck him out, Vic Black pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and saving his tenth game of the season.

Eric Young Jr. drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Murphy had two hits and an RBI. Duda had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI and Ruben Tejada had a hit. Tejada hit a double, Murphy and Duda each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Murphy and Young each had a stolen base.

Jacob Turner started for the Marlins and pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Turner lost his seventh game of the season, Chris Hatcher pitched two perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts, Dan Jennings pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Caminero pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out the only batter he faced. Solano had a hit, Ruggiano had a hit and an RBI and Stanton had a hit. Hechavarria had a hit and drew a walk, Ruggiano hit a homerun and the Marlins were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Brantly had a passed ball.

The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees on Saturday afternoon. The final score was 5-1 and the game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and wasn’t very good. The Yankees offense couldn’t get much going against Jon Lester.

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up nine hits and five runs. He walked four and struck out five and took his 13th loss of the season. Joba Chamberlain pitched an inning walking two and striking out one and Matt Daley pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Curtis Granderson had a couple of hits, Robinson Cano had an RBI and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk. Brendan Ryan had a hit, J.R. Murphy drew a walk and Granderson hit a double and a triple. The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Reynolds committed an error.

Jon Lester won his 14th game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up three hits and a run. He walked two and struck out five. Franklin Morales pitched a perfect inning.

Dustin Pedroia had a hit, Shane Victorino had two hits and an RBI and David Ortiz had a hit and an RBI. Mike Napoli had two hits and drew two walks, Johnny Gomes had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks and Daniel Nava had an RBI. Will Middlebrooks had an RBI, David Ross had a hit and drew a walk and Bogaerts drew a walk.

Ortiz, Gomes and Victorino each hit a double and the Red Sox were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Victorino had a stolen base.

In the second Middlebrooks had an RBI groundout giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. In the third Ortiz hit an RBI double, Gomes hit an RBI single and it was 3-0 Red Sox. Cano hit an RBI groundout in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1. Victorino hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 4-1 and the scoring completed in the fifth with a Nava sacrifice fly. The final score was 5-1 Red Sox.

The Yankees have now lost two straight and their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. The Yankees record fell to 79-70 and the Red Sox record improved to 91-59. The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday night.
