New York Mets blow lead in ninth and lose again to the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-3.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well, Edwin Diaz the closer imploded in the ninth.  The Mets offense only managed five hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Brooks Pounders pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Chris Flexen pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Diaz lost his fifth game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up three hits and five runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Diaz also blew his fourth save of the season. 

Aaron Nola pitched seven innings giving up a hit and no runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Juan Nicasio pitched an inning with a strikeout, Hector Neris pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs and JD Hammer won his first game of the season pitching to two batters and getting them both out. 

Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk, Todd Frazier had a hit and two RBI and Dom Smith had a hit.   Wilson Ramos had a hit, Amed Rosario had an RBI and Wheeler had a hit.  Frazier hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Alonso committed an error. 

Scott Kingery had two hits, Jean Segura had a hit and three RBI and Bryce Harper had a hit and an RBI.  Rhys Hoskins drew two walks, Cesar Hernandez drew a walk and Maikel Franco had two hits and two RBI.  Andrew Knapp drew a walk, Sean Rodriguez drew a walk and Harper, Franco and Segura each hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Franco committed an error. 

In the sixth Harper hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the ninth Frazier hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and Rosario hit an RBI ground out to push the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the ninth Franco hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at three and Segura hit a walk-off three-run homerun to give the Phillies a 6-3 win.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-4.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Dom Smith had three hits to lead the offense. 

Vargas pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out ten.  Seth Lugo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts, Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning and he struck out two.  Stephen Nogosek pitched giving up two hits and a run with a walk and he took his first loss of the season. 

Nick Pivetta pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Jose Alvarez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit, JD Hammer pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Adam Morgan pitched to one batter and got him out.  Hector Neris pitched an inning and struck out one and Edgar Garcia pitched an inning and had a strikeout and won his second game of the season. 

Jeff McNeil had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Pete Alonso had two hits and Smith had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Amed Rosario drew a walk, Tomas Nido had two hits and an RBI and Vargas had a hit.  Juan Lagares drew a walk, Alonso and McNeil each hit a double.  Smith and McNeil each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Alonso and Smith each had a stolen base and Smith was caught stealing and picked off. 

Jean Segura had two hits and three RBI, Bryce Harper drew two walks and Rhys Hoskins drew a walk.  J.T. Realmuto had two hits, Jay Bruce had two hits and an RBI and Cesar Hernandez had two hits and an RBI.  Maikel Franco had a hit and drew a walk, Brad Miller drew a walk and Bruce hit two doubles.  Realmuto and Hernandez each hit a double and Segura hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Realmuto committed an error and Alvarez had a pickoff. 

In the fourth Smith hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth McNeil hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 2-0.  In the sixth Nido hit an RBI single, McNeil hit an RBI double and it was 4-0 Mets.  In the bottom of the sixth Segura hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the seventh Hernandez hit an RBI double and Segura hit a two-run single to tie the game at four.  In the tenth Bruce hit an RBI double to win the game for the Phillies.  The final score was 5-4 in ten innings.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 7-5.  Walker Lockett started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Jeff McNeil led the offense with four hits. 

Lockett pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Wilmer Font pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs and he took his second loss of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Chris Flexen pitched an inning striking out one. 

Jake Arrieta won his seventh game of the season pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out two.  Adam Morgan pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Juan Nicasio pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Hector Neris pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and he saved his 16th game of the season. 

McNeil had four hits and an RBI, Pete Alonso had a hit and Robinson Cano had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had an RBI, Todd Frazier drew a walk and Dom Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilson Ramos had a hit, Amed Rosario had two hits and an RBI and Lockett had a hit and drew a walk.  McNeil and Cano each hit a double and Rosario and Smith each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Rosario had a stolen base and Cano committed an error.

In the first Cano hit an RBI single and Conforto hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Kingery hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the second Rosario hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  In the third Smith hit a solo homerun making it a 4-1 game.  In the bottom of the fourth Hoskins hit a solo homerun and the lead was cut to 4-2.  In the sixth McNeil hit an RBI single and the lead was 5-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Bruce hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 5-3.  Hernandez hit an RBI single and Franco hit a two-run homerun to give the Phillies a 6-5 lead.  Miller hit a solo homerun to make it 7-5 and that would be the final score.   

New York Yankees win a wild one to cap off a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-7.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and he pitched horrible.  The Yankees bullpen did a good job and Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius and Gleyber Torres each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  David Hale pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three and Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Zach Britton pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and he won his third game of the season. 

Trent Thornton pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Sam Gaviglio pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Joe Biagini pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run and Tim Mayza pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Daniel Hudson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Nick Kingham pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk.  Kingham lost his second game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Judge had three hits and two RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Luke Voit had two hits and an RBI, Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and Gregorius had three hits and an RBI.  Aaron Hicks had an RBI and drew two walks, Torres had three hits and an RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit.  Voit and Encarnacion each hit a double and Gregorius and LeMahieu each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Voit and Torres each committed an error.  Hale had a pickoff and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Cavan Biggio had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Vlad Guerrero Jr. drew a walk and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had three hits and four RBI.  Randal Grichuk had a hit and drew a walk, Rowdy Tellez had a hit and Freddy Galvis had a hit.  Brandon Drury had a hit, Danny Jansen had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gurriel Jr. hit a double.  Gurriel Jr. hit two homeruns and Jansen hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Grichuk was picked off. 

In the first Gurriel Jr. hit a three-run homerun to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.  In the second Jansen hit a two-run homerun and it was 5-0 Jays.  In the bottom of the second Gregorius hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 5-1.  Judge hit a two-run single and it was 5-3.  In the fourth LeMahieu hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at five.  In the fifth Gurriel Jr. hit a solo homerun to give the Jays back the lead at 6-5.  In the bottom of the fifth Hicks hit a sac fly to tie the game at six.  In the sixth Voit hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 7-6 lead.  In the ninth Biggio hit an RBI single to tie the game at seven.  In the ninth Torres hit an RBI single to walk-off the Yankees with a 8-7 win.  The Yankees earned the three-game sweep and they will be off four a couple of days as they head to London, England to take on the Boston Red Sox in a two-game weekend series.   

New York Yankees hold on for victory over the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Chad Green started as the opener and pitched one clean inning.  The Yankees bullpen pitched well and they hit four solo homeruns. 

Green pitched an inning with a strikeout, Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with five strikeouts and he picked up his third win of the season and Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Stephen Tarpley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Zach Britton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Chapman picked up his 23rd save of the season. 

Clayton Richard pitched six innings giving up eight hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Richard lost his fourth game of the season.  David Phelps pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out one and Tim Mayza pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Luke Voit had a hit and Edward Encarnacion had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI and LeMahieu hit a triple and he hit a homerun.  Judge, Torres and Encarnacion each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Hicks had a pick off and Sanchez committed an error. 

Eric Sogard had an RBI, Vald Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had two hits.  Cavan Biggio had a hit, Randal Grichuk had a hit and an RBI and Freddy Galvis had a hit.  Danny Jansen had a hit.  Biggio and Jansen each hit a double and the Blue Jays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gurriel Jr. had an outfield assist and Richard had a pickoff. 

In the first LeMahieu and Judge each hit a solo homerun and the Yankees had a quick 2-0 lead.  In the second Torres hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Sogard hit a sac fly and Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the eighth Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-2.  In the ninth Grichuk hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.

New York Yankees outslug the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-8.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Jonathan Holder did not pitch well out of the bullpen and DJ LeMahieu led the offense with four hits. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Sabathia won his fifth game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Holder pitched giving up five hits and five runs without recording an out and Chad Green pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two.  Adam Ottavino pitched to one batter and struck him out and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run and he picked up his 22nd save of the season. 

Aaron Sanchez pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Sanchez lost his tenth game of the season.  Derek Law pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Sean Reid-Foley pitched two innings giving up two hits and three walks with two strikeouts and Joe Biagini pitched to one batter and got him out. 

LeMahieu had four hits and drew a walk, Luke Voit had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Hicks had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and three RBI and Didi Gregorius had two hits and drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew three walks, Gio Urshela had two hits and an RBI and Brett Gardner had an RBI.  Torres and Voit each hit a double and Hicks and Stanton each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Sabathia and Stanton each committed an error.

In the first Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI double, Tellez hit an RBI double and it was 2-0 Jays.  In the fifth Hicks hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the sixth Urshela hit an RBI single to push their lead to 4-2 and Gardner hit an RBI ground out making it 5-2.  Voit hit a two-run double and Stanton hit a three-run homerun and the score was 10-2.  In the eighth Gurriel Jr. hit a solo homerun making it 10-3.  Galvis hit a grand-slam and it was 10-7.  In the ninth Tellez hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 10-8 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Mets pounded the Chicago Cubs


The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 10-2.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Amed Rosario had three hits and Jeff McNeil, Pete Alonso and Todd Frazier each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Wheeler won his sixth game of the season.  Chris Flexen pitched two innings giving up a hit and an unearned run with three walks and two strikeouts. 

Jose Quintana pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and nine runs with eight of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out two.  Rowan Wick pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts, Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Kyle Ryan pitched an inning giving up a walk.  Victor Caratini pitched a perfect inning. 

McNeil had two hits and three RBI, Alonso had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and J.D. Davis had a hit.  Dom Smith drew a walk, Frazier had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI.  Wilson Ramos had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Rosario had three hits, Rosario, McNeil and Alonso each hit a double.  Alonso and Frazier and Ramos each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  McNeil committed an error and Ramos had a passed ball. 

Kyle Schwarber had a hit and drew a walk, Kris Bryant had a hit and Daniel Descalso drew a walk.  Willson Contreras had a hit, Jason Heyward had three hits and Carlos Gonzalez drew a walk.  David Bote drew a walk, Heyward hit a double and the Cubs were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and lef thet seven men on base.  Caratini committed an error and Schwarber had an outfield assist.  Contreras had two passed balls. 

In the first Alonso hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second McNeil hit a two-run single and it was 3-0 Mets.  In the third Frazier hit a two-run homerun to push the Mets lead to 5-0.  In the fourth McNeil hit an RBI double making it 6-0.  In the fifth Conforto hit an RBI single and it was 7-0.  Ramos hit a two-run homerun to make it 9-0 and in the sixth Frazier hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 10-0.  In the seventh Caratini grounded into a double play but a run scored to cut the lead to 10-1.  In the ninth a wild pitch made it 10-2 and that was the final score. 

New York Yankees fail to sweep the Houston Astros


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-4.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched very poorly.  DJ LeMahieu led their offense with three hits. 

Happ pitched four innings giving up 11 hits and eight runs with two strikeouts.  Happ lost his fourth game of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched four innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts and David Hale pitched an inning walking one and striking out one. 

Justin Verlander pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Verlander won his 10th game of the season.  Chris Devenski pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Roberto Osuna pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

LeMahieu had three hits and three RBI, Aaron Judge had an RBI and Luke Voit drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk.  LeMahieu hit a triple and a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Jose Altuve had two hits and an RBI, Alex Bregman drew a walk and Michael Brantley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Yordan Alvarez had two hits and two RBI, Yuri Gurriel had two hits and an RBI and Robinson Chirinos had a hit.  Josh Reddick had two hits, Tyler White had a hit and four RBI and Jake Marisnick had two hits.  Altuve hit a double and a homerun and White, Alvarez and Gurriel each hit a homerun.  The Astros were 3-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Altuve hit a solo homerun to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  In the third Brantley hit an RBI single and it was 2-0 Astros.  In the fourth White hit a grand slam to push the Astros lead to 6-0.  In the fifth Alvarez hit a two-run homerun and it was 8-0 Astros.  Gurriel hit a solo homerun and the Astros led 9-0.  In the bottom of the fifth LeMahieu hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 9-3.  In the eighth Judge hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 9-4 and that was the final score. 

The Yankees won three out of four in the series and will remain home to take on the Blue Jays for three on Monday night.   

New York Yankees defeat the Houston Astros in back and forth game


The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Saturday.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium and the final score was 7-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Giancarlo Stanton led the offense with a couple of hits and four RBI. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Jonathan Holder won his fifth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up three hits and three runs, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts and Zach Britton saved his third game of the season pitching an inning and walking three. 

Wade Miley pitched five innings giving up two hits and four runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Will Harris pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Ryan Pressly pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two of them being earned and he struck out two and Reymin Guduan pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew two walks, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Luke Voit had a hit.  Stanton had two hits and four RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk and Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI.  Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI.  Urshela and Romine each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Judge had an outfield assist. 

Jose Altuve had a hit, Alex Bregman had two hits and Michael Brantley had three hits and drew a walk.  Yordan Alvarez had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Josh Reddick had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Robinson Chirinos drew a walk.  Tyler White drew a walk, Max Stassi had two hits and Tony Kemp drew a walk.  Altuve hit a double, Reddick and Alvarez each hit a homerun and the Astros were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Marisnick, Reddick and Stassi each committed an error. 

In the fifth Urshela hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Reddick hit a two-run homerun to tie the game.  In the bottom of the sixth Stanton hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead.  In the seventh Alvarez hit a three-run homerun to give the Astros a 5-4 lead and in the bottom of the seventh Romine hit a solo homerun and Stanton hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 7-5 lead which was the final score.  The Yankees have taken the first three games of the series and will try and sweep the four game series on Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs


The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 7-4.  Walker Lockett started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Lockett pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up five hits and six runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Lockett lost his first game of the season.  Brooks Pounders pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Wilmer Font pitched three innings giving up a hit and three walks and he struck out five and Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Stephen Nogosek pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Tyler Chatwood pitched four innings giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out one.  Adbert Alzolay pitched four innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and five strikeouts and he won his first game of the season.  Steve Cishek pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he saved his seventh game of the season. 

McNeil had two hits, Alonso had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI.  Wilson Ramos drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Gomez had a hit.  Alonso and Frazier each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ramos had a passed ball. 

Kyle Schwarber drew a walk, Kris Bryant had a hit and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Javier Baez had two hits and two RBI, Wilson Contreras had a hit and Jason Heyward drew a walk.  Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and drew a walk, Chatwood drew a walk and Daniel Descalso had a hit and an RBI.  Rizzo and Contreras each hit a double and Baez hit a triple and a homerun.  The Cubs were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Chatwood committed an error. 

In the second Gomez grounded into a double play and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Alonso hit a two-run homerun to push their lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the third Descalso hit an RBI single, Bryant hit an RBI single and Rizzo hit a two-run double and the Cubs had a 4-3 lead.  Baez hit an RBI triple and a wild pitch made the score 6-3 Cubs.  In the seventh Baez hit a solo homerun to make it 7-3 and then in the ninth Frazier hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 7-4 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of four on Friday. 




The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.  The game took place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 7-2.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  Jeff McNeil, Wilson Ramos and Amed Rosario each had two hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Matz lost his fifth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and five runs.  He walked four and struck out two.  Chris Flexen pitched two innings giving up a walk and striking out three, Stephen Nogosek pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Daniel Zamora pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Max Fried pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Fried won his eighth game of the season.  A.J. Minter pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Anthony Swarzak pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and Luke Jackson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

McNeil had two hits, Pete Alonso drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI.  J.D. Davis had a hit, Todd Frazier had a hit and Ramos had two hits.  Rosario had two hits and an RBI, Adeiny Hechavarria drew a walk and McNeil hit two doubles and Ramos and Rosario each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  McNeil and Rosario each had a stolen base. 

Ronald Acuna Jr. drew a walk, Dansby Swanson had a hit and Freddie Freeman had two hits and two RBI.   Josh Donaldson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Austin Riley had two hits and drew a walk and Ozzie Albies had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Flowers had a hit, Charlie Culberson drew a walk and Matt Joyce drew a walk.  Nick Markakis had a hit and two RBI, Riley, Albies and Markakis each hit a double.  Freeman and Donaldson each hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Acuna Jr. had an outfield assist and Culberson also had an outfield assist. 

In the first Conforto hit an RBI ground out to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Freeman hit a two-run homerun to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Rosario hit an RBI double and the game was tied at two.  In the sixth Donaldson hit a two-run homerun to give the Braves a 4-2 lead.  Albies hit an RBI double and the lead pushed to 5-2.  In the eighth Markakis hit a two-run double to extend the Braves lead to 7-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will head to Chicago to take on the Cubs on Thursday night.  It will be the first of a four-game series.    

New York Yankees defeat the Houston Astros


The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and pitched well although his control wasn’t great.  The Yankees bullpen was good and Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Paxton won his fifth game of the season.  Adam Ottavino pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two, Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up two walks.  Aroldis Chapman saved his 21st game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he walked one and struck out two. 

Brad Peacock lost his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out 11.  Hector Rondon pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Chris Devenski pitched an inning and struck out one. 

Sanchez had two hits and two RBI, Gregorius had two hits and Brett Gardner had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and two RBI, Gio Urshela had a hit and Cameron Maybin had a hit.  Sanchez and Gardner each hit a double and Sanchez and Torres each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Jose Altuve had three hits and drew a walk, Yordan Alvarez drew a walk and Yuli Gurriel had a hit and drew a walk.  Robinson Chirinos drew a walk, Tyler White had a hit and drew two walks and Jake Marisnick had a hit and an RBI.  Myles Straw had a hit and drew a walk, Straw hit a double and White, Marisnick and Gurriel each hit a double.  The Astros were 1-13 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Bregman committed an error. 

In the third Sanchez hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Marisnick hi an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the seventh Torres hit a two-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two games of their series and will try to make it three in a row in the series and eight in a row on Saturday night.
