New York Yankees open three game home stand with a win



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New  York and the final score was 6-0.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and pitched great.  Jacoby Ellsbury and Austin Romine each had two hits. 

Eovaldi pitched 6+ innings giving up no runs and two hits.  He walked three and struck out five and earned his fifth win of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a walk and Luis Cessa pitched a perfect inning. 

R.A. Dickey took his sixth loss of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Joe Biagini pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jesse Chavez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and Pat Venditte pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Dustin Ackley had a hit and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Chase Headley had an RBI, Didi Gregorius had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Romine had two hits and an RBI.  Romine hit a double, Ellsbury hit a triple and Beltran hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Jose Bautista had a hit and drew a walk, Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and drew a walk and Jimmy Paredes drew a walk.  Josh Thole drew a walk, the Blue Jays were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Tulowitzki had a stolen base and Thole had two passed balls. 

In the first Beltran grounded into an RBI force out making it 1-0 Yankees.  In the fourth Beltran hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0 Yankees.  Romine hit an RBI double in the seventh and Ellsbury hit an RBI single making it 4-0 Yankees.  In the eighth Headley hit a sac fly and Gregorius hit an RBI single making it 6-0 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.   

The New York Mets win the first game of a big series over the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Monday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. and the final score was 7-1.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well.  The Mets had five players who had two hits in the game. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts and he won his fourth game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Logan Verrett pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Gio Gonzalez lost his second game of the season pitching five innings and giving up ten hits and seven runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Blake Treinen pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Yusmeiro Petit pitched a perfect inning and Sammy Solis pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits, Juan Lagares had two hits and David Wright had a hit and three RBI.  Yoenis Cespedes hahd two hits and an RBI, Neil Walker had two hits and an RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and an RBI.  Eric Campbell had an RBI, Wright had a homerun, Cespedes and Walker also had a homerun.  The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Jayson Werth had two hits, Daniel Murphy had two hits and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and an RBI.  Wilson Ramos drew a walk, Chris Heisey drew a walk and the Nationals were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Zimmerman had a stolen base. 

In the first Zimmerman had an RBI single giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the third Wright hit a three run homerun and it was 3-1 Mets.  Cabrera hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-1 Mets in the third and Campbell hit a sac fly making it 5-1 Mets.  In the fifth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to increase the lead to 6-1 Mets.  Walker hit a solo homerun and it was 7-1 which would be the final score. 

The Mets took the first of three in a first place showdown.  The two teams will play on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets complete the three game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers



The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen pitched well also.  Michael Conforto hit a homerun and Asdrubal Cabrera had two RBI to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched seven innings giving up six hits and an unearned run.  He walked none and struck out 11 and won his fifth game of the season.  Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he saved his 15th game of the season. 

Chase Anderson pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts and lost his sixth game of the season.  Jhan Marinez pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out four and Jeremy Jeffress pitched an inning giving up two hits and struck out one. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk, Neil Walker had a hit and Cabrera had a hit and two RBI.  Cespedes hit a double and Conforto hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Wright committed an error. 

Scooter Gennett had a hit, Ryan Braun had a hit and Jonathan Lucroy had a hit and an RBI.  Hernan Perez had three hits, Alex Presley had a hit and Ramon Flores had a hit.  The Brewers were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Braun had a stolen base. 

In the first Lucroy hit an RBI single and it was 1-0 Brewers.  In the bottom of the first Conforto hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Cabrera hit a two run single to make it 3-1 Mets and that would be the final score. 

The Mets swept the three game series and will head to Washington to begin a three game series with the Nationals on Monday night. 

New York Yankees complete four game sweep of the Oakland Athletics



The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California and the final score was 5-4.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched pretty well.  Carlos Beltran and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Pineda won his second game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up an unearned run and he struck out one and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he picked up his sixth save of the season. 

Jesse Hahn started for the Athletics pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season, John Axford pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Sean Doolittle pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Daniel Coulombe pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and Carlos Beltran had two hits and an RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI and Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI.  Gregorius had two hits and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Beltran hit a double, McCann and Ellsbury each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ellsbury was caught stealing and Gregorius and Castro each committed an error. 

Coco Crisp had a hit, Billy Burns had two hits and Steven Vogt had a hit and three RBI.  Billy Butler had an RBI, Marcus Semien had a hit and Max Muncy drew a walk.  Jake Smolinski had a hit, Semien, Crisp and Vogt each hit a double.  The A's were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Burns had two stolen bases and Butler committed an error.  Coulombe had a pickoff. 

In the first Vogt hit an RBI groundout to give the A's a 1-0 lead.  In the second McCann hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the third Ellsbury hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Vogt hit a two run double in the fifth and it was 3-2 A's.  In the sixth Teixeira picked up an RBI single to tie the game at three, Castro hit an RBI single and it was 4-3 Yankees.  In the seventh Beltran hit an RBI double to make it 5-3 Yankees.  Oakland would score an unearned run in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Butler and it was 5-4 which would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the four game series and will have a day off on Monday.  They will begin a three game series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.   

The New York Mets win second straight over the Milwaukee Brewers



The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched just ok and the bullpen was good.  Yoenis Cespedes and Eric Campbell each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom started for the Mets and pitched five innings giving up five hit snad four runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one with two strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and won his first game of the season. 

Zach Davies started for the Brewers and pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Blaine Boyer pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits, Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one and Tyler Thornburg pitched an inning striking out one.  Michael Blazek pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and he took his first loss of the season. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, David Wright had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a  hit and drew a walk.  Cespedes had two hits and two RBI, Neil Walker had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI.  Campbell had two hits, Kevin Plawecki drew a walk and Alejandro De Aza drew a walk.  Conforto hit a double, Granderson and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Granderson was caught stealing. 

Jonathan Villar had three hits and an RBI, Scooter Gennett drew a walk and Chris Carter had a hit.  Aaron Hill had a hit and drew three walks, Alex Presley had a hit and drew a walk and Ramon Flores had a hit and three RBI.  Villar hit two doubles and Flores hit a homerun and the Brewers were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Hill had a stolen base. 

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the secodn Flores hit a two run homerun to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Flores hit a sac fly to make it 3-1 Brewers and in the fourth Villar hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Cabrera hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2 Brewers.  In the sixth Cespedes hit a two run homerun to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the ninth Wright hit an RBI single to win the game 5-4. 

The Mets have taken the first two of the three game series and will go for the sweep on Sunday.

The New York Mets rally back to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers



The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Michael Conforto led the offense with a couple of hits and RBI. 

Matz won his sixth game of the season pitching seven innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight batters.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Wily Peralta pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Chris Capuano pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out five. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Conforto had two hits and two RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk.  Neil Walker drew a walk, Lucas Duda had a hit and Eric Campbell drew a walk.  Rene Rivera had an RBI, Matz had a hit and Alejandro De Aza had a hit.  Conforto hit a  homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cespdes was caught stealing. 

Jonathan Villar had a hit, Hernan Perez had a hit and Chris Carter had a hit and two RBI.  Carter hit a homerun and the Brewers were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left none on base.  Villar had a stolen base and Perez was caught stealing. 

In the first Carter hit a two run homerun to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead.  In the second Rivera hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Conforto hit a two run homerun and the Mets took a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Mets took the first of three and game two will be played on Saturday afternoon.   

New York Yankees win their third straight game in Oakland



The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California and the final score was 5-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well.  Starlin Castro had three hits and Carlos Beltran had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts.  Tanaka won his second game of the season.  Nick Goody pitched two innings giving up a hit. 

Sean Manaea started for the A's and pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  He took his second loss of the season.  John Axford pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, Marc Rzepczynski pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Sean Doolittle pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Castro had three hits and an RBI and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Beltran had two hits and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Aaron Hicks had an RBI.  Rob Refsnyder made his first start of the season and had a hit and two RBI, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and drew a walk and Refsnyder and Castro each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Coco Crisp had a hit, Billy Burns had a hit and drew a walk and Danny Valencia had an RBI.  Yonder Alonso had a hit, Marcus Semien had a hit and Matt McBride drew a walk.  Max Muncy had two hits and the Athletics were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Muncy committed an error and McBride had a passed ball. 

In the fourth Beltran hit an RBI single giving them a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Hicks hit a sac fly and the lead increased to 2-0 Yankees.  Refsnyder hit a two run double for the big hit and it became 4-0 Yankees.  In the fifth Valencia hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-1 Yankees.  In the seventh Castro hit an RBI double to push the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first three of four and will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon.  They have won four games overall and have a 4-2 record on their current seven game road trip.

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Kirby Yates pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Sonny Gray pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out three and took his fifth loss of the season.  Ryan Dull pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Andrew Triggs pitched three innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and two RBI with a walk, Bret Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Beltran had three hits and three RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew two walks and Gregorius had three hits.  Ronald Torreyes had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Beltran hit a double and Torreyes and Ellsbury each hit a triple.  The Yankees were 4-16 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Torreyes committed an error. 

Coco Crisp had a hit and an RBI, Danny Valencia had a hit and Khris Davis had a hit.  Billy Butler drew a walk, Billy Burns had a hit and Jake Smolinski had an RBI.  Matt McBride had a hit and an RBI, Tyler Ladendorf had a hit and Crisp hit a double.  Burns hit a triple and the A's were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Vogt, Semien and Butler each committed an error. 

In the second McBride hit an RBI single giving the A's a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Torreyes hit a two run triple giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  A wild pitch pushed the lead to 3-1 and a Beltran two run double made it a 5-1 game.  In the sixth Beltran hit another RBI double to increase the Yankees lead to 6-1.  Crisp hit an RBI double in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-2 and in the ninth Ellsbury hit a two run triple to make it 8-2.  In the bottom of the ninth the A's cut it to 8-3 on a Smolinski RBI groundout and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two of the four game series.  The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.
