The New York Yankees late rally falls short in loss to the Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees on Friday night. The final score was 10-6 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. CC Sabathia started and was bad and Adam Warren wasn’t great in relief. The Yankees got the return of Alfonso Soriano but he didn’t pick up a hit in the game. Brett Gardner, Melky Mesa, David Adams and Brent Lillibridge each had two hits.

Sabathia gave up seven runs on nine hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out six and lost his ninth game of the season. Warren pitched four innings giving up three hits and three runs with three walks and two strikeouts.

Gardner had two hits, Mesa had two hits and an RBI and Robinson Cano drew a walk. Adams had two hits and two RBI, Soriano had an RBI and Lyle Overbay had a hit. Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI, Eduardo Nunez drew a walk and Brent Lillibridge had two hits. Austin Romine had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Mesa and Stewart each hit a double and the Yankees were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Romine and Nunez each committed an error. Soriano had an outfield assist.

Jeremy Hellickson earned his 10th win of the season. He pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run. He walked two and struck out three. Kyle Farnsworth pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Cesar Ramos pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout and Jamey Wright gave up four hits and three runs with a walk. Jake McGee pitched to one batter and retired him and Fernando Rodney picked up his 25th save of the season. He pitched 1/3 of an inning and retired the only batter that he faced.

Desmond Jennings had a hit and drew a walk, Evan Longoria had a hit and two RBI and Will Myers had two hits and an RBI. Ben Zobrist had a hit and drew a walk, Sean Rodriguez had two hits and Matt Joyce drew two walks. Yunel Escobar had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, James Loney had two hits and four RBI and Lobaton had a hit and drew a walk and Sam Fuld had a hit and an RBI.

Zobrist, Escobar, Longoria, Rodriguez and Lobaton each hit a double. Loney hit a homerun and the Rays were 7-17 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

In the second inning Escobar hit an RBI double, Fuld hit an RBI single and Jennings hit an RBI bunt single to make it a 3-0 game. Longoria hit a two run double and Myers hit an RBI single to make it a 6-0 game. In the third Romine hit an RBI single to make it a 6-1 game. Loney hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it a 7-1 game. Loney hit a three run homerun in the seventh to extend the lead to 10-1. The Yankees rallied in the eighth and ninth innings. Adams hit an RBI single and Stewart hit an RBI double to make it 10-3. In the ninth Mesa hit an RBI single, Adams hit an RBI single and Soriano hit an RBI groundout to make it a 10-6 game. 10-6 would be the final score.

The Rays record improved to 61-42 and the Yankees record fell to 54-49. The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Mets split a doubleheader with the Washington Nationals

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals in a day game on Friday. The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals in a game on Friday night. The final scores of the two games were 11-0 and then 2-1 in the nightcap. Jenrry Mejia started the day game and was great for the Mets. Matt Harvey pitched well in the nightcap. Daniel Murphy led the offense during the day game. Juan Lagares and David Wright also had good games. In the night game there wasn’t much offense but Murphy did have two hits.

Mejia pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and no runs. He walked none and struck out seven and earned his first victory of the season. Scott Rice pitched an inning giving up a hit and Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up a walk. Harvey pitched eight innings giving up five hits and an unearned run. He walked one and struck out seven. LaTroy Hawkins picked up his second loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and he gave up a hit and a run.

Lagares had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk in the day game, Murphy had four hits and five RBI and Wright had two hits and an RBI. Marlon Byrd had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Ike Davis had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks and Anthony Recker had a hit. Omar Quintanilla had a hit and drew a walk, Lagares hit two doubles, and Recker and Byrd each hit a double. Murphy hit two homeruns and Davis hit a homerun, the Mets were 7-12 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Lagares had two stolen bases and Byrd had a stolen base. Lagares had a hit in the night game, Murphy had two hits and drew a walk and Wright drew a walk. Byrd had a hit, Josh Satin had a hit and Justin Turner had a hit. John Buck had a hit and an RBI, Andrew Brown had a hit and Davis drew a walk. Satin, Buck and Brown each hit a double and the Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Murphy committed an error.

Jordan Zimmerman took his sixth loss of the season in the day game. He pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs. He walked three and struck out eight. Fernando Abad pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits; Ryan Mattheus pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout. Drew Storen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs. Ross Ohlendorf pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts in the nightcap. Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and Rafael Soriano picked up his second win of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and a walk.

Bryce Harper had a hit, Steve Lombardozzi had two hits and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits. Jayson Werth had two hits, Ian Desmond had a hit and drew a walk and Kurt Suzuki had a hit. The Nationals were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Zimmerman had two hits and an RBI in the night game, Werth had three hits and Desmond drew a walk. Ramos had a hit, which was a double, and Zimmerman hit a homerun. The Nationals were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Zimmerman committed an error.

Murphy hit a solo homerun in the first and a two run homerun in the third to give the Mets a 3-0 lead in the matinee. Lagares and Murphy each hit an RBI single in the seventh inning. In the ninth Murphy hit an RBI single, Wright hit an RBI single, Byrd hit an RBI double and Davis hit a three run homerun to make it a 11-0 game which would be the final score. In the nightcap Buck hit an RBI double in the fourth inning. In the fifth Ramos grounded into a force out which scored a run and made it a 1-1 game. In the ninth Zimmerman hit a walkoff solo homerun to give the Nationals a 2-1 victory.

The Nationals record improved to 50-54 and the Mets record fell to 46-54. The two teams will play on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees earn a split with the Texas Rangers

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Thursday afternoon. The final score was 2-0 and the game took place at Rangers ballpark in Arlington, Texas. Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched great; the bullpen closed it out with David Robertson and Mariano Rivera. The Yankees did have five extra base hits in the game.

Kuroda pitched seven shutout innings. He gave up six hits and a walk with three strikeouts and earned his 10th game of the season. Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Rivera saved his 33rd game of the season. Rivera pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Brent Lillibridge had a hit and an RBI and Robinson Cano had a hit. Vernon Wells had a hit and drew a walk, Eduardo Nunez had a hit and an RBI and David Adams had a hit. Melky Mesa had a hit and drew a walk; Austin Romine had his first three hit game of his career. Nunez, Lillibridge and Cano each hit a double and Romine hit two doubles. The Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Mesa and Nunez were each caught stealing.

Derek Holland lost his sixth game of the season. Holland pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Tanner Scheppers pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Joakim Soria pitched an inning giving up a hit with a walk and a strikeout.

Ian Kinsler had a hit, Elvis Andrus had two hits and Nelson Cruz drew a walk. Adrian Beltre had a hit, Jurickson Profar had two hits and Leonys Martin had a hit. The Rangers were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Kinsler was caught stealing and Beltre committed an error. Holland had a pickoff.

Lillibridge hit an RBI double in the sixth to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the eighth Nunez hit an RBI groundout to make it 2-0 Yankees and that would be the final score.

The Yankees record improved to 54-48 and the Rangers record fell to 56-46. The Yankees will head home and begin a three game series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. The Rangers will head to Cleveland to take on the Indians in a three game series beginning Friday night.

The New York Mets are beat 8-2 by the Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets on Wednesday night. The final score was 8-2 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Jeremy Hefner started and did not pitch well, the bullpen wasn’t bad. Daniel Murphy and Marlon Byrd each had two hits.

Hefner took his eighth loss of the season pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up six hits and six runs with five of them being earned. He walked one and struck out three. Gonzalez Germen pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out three, Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Scott Atchison pitched an inning giving up two hits and two unearned runs with a walk.

Daniel Murphy had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Marlon Byrd had two hits and Ike Davis drew a walk. Anthony Recker had a hit and drew a walk, Omar Quintanilla had a hit and Murphy hit two doubles. The Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Murphy committed two fielding errors, Recker had a passed ball and Juan Lagares had an outfield assist.

Tim Hudson won his eighth game of the season; he also broke his ankle in a horrific collision at first base. Hudson pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out nine. Luis Avilan gave up a hit without recording an out, Walden struck out the only batter that he faced and Ayala pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Andrelton Simmons had two hits and two RBI, Jason Heyward drew two walks and Justin Upton had a hit and an RBI. Evan Gattis had two hits and an RBI, Dan Uggla had two hits and three RBI and Cody Johnson had a hit. Hudson drew a walk; Gattis, Uggla and Simmons each hit a homerun. The Braves were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

Gattis hit a solo homerun in the second to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. In the fifth Uggla hit a three run homerun and Simmons hit a two run homerun to give the Braves a 6-0 lead. In the eighth Murphy hit a two run double to make it a 6-2 game. In the ninth the Braves scored on a passed ball and Upton hit an RBI single to make it 8-2.

The Braves record improved to 57-44 and the Mets record dropped to 44-53. The two teams will complete their four game series on Thursday afternoon.

New York Yankees lose 3-1 in Texas

The Texas Rangers defeated the New York Yankees on Wednesday night. The final score was 3-1 and the game took place at Rangers ballpark in Arlington, Texas. Andy Pettitte started and pitched well. The Yankees offense didn’t do much, sounds familiar doesn’t it??

Pettitte pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Pettitte lost his eighth game of the season. Shawn Kelley pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk.

Brett Gardner had two hits, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Robinson Cano had two hits and an RBI. Vernon Wells had a hit, The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Gardner and Suzuki each had a stolen base.

Matt Garza won his seventh game of the season. He pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and an unearned run. Garza walked none and struck out five. Neal Cotts pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout and Joe Nathan saved his 32nd game of the season. Nathan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.

Ian Kinsler had a hit, Elvis Andrus had a hit and Nelson Cruz had a hit and drew a walk. A.J. Pierzynski had two hits and two RBI, Jeff Baker had a hit and David Murphy had a hit and an RBI. Geovany Soto had a hit and drew a walk and Gentry had a hit. Baker hit a double; Pierzynski and Murphy each hit a homerun. The Rangers were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Gentry had a stolen base; Garza and Beltre committed an error.

Pierzynski hit an RBI single in the first to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. In the sixth Cano hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. Pierzynski hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead. In the eighth Murphy hit a solo homerun to extend the Rangers lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score.

The Yankees record fell to 53-48 and the Rangers record improved to 56-45. The two teams will play the fourth and final game of their series on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 4-1

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. The final score was 4-1 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Carlos Torres pitched well and the bullpen was excellent. David Wright and John Buck each had two hits.

Torres picked up his first victory of the season. He pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts. David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Scott Rice faced one batter and retired him and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning striking out one. Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning to pick up his 19th save of the season. He struck out two batters.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wright had two hits. Marlon Byrd drew a walk, Ike Davis had a hit and an RBI and Buck had two hits and an RBI. Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, Torres had a hit and an RBI and Lagares and Davis each hit a double. The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Young was caught stealing and Lagares had an outfield assist.

Kris Medlen lost his sixth game of the season. He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts. David Carpenter pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Cameron Loe pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Andrelton Simmons had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jayson Heward had a hit and drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk. Gattis had a hit, Dan Uggla had two hits and Johnson had a hit. Johnson and McCann each hit a double and Simmons hit a homerun. The Braves were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Uggla had a stolen base.

Simmons hit a homerun to lead off the game. The Braves had a 1-0 lead and the Mets would tie the game in the third inning. Torres hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. The Mets scored three runs in the sixth and that was all the scoring. The final was 4-1 Mets. Davis hit an RBI double, Buck an RBI single and Lagares hit a sacrifice fly.

The Mets record improved to 44-52 and the Braves record dropped to 56-44. The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.

The Yankees win with a ninth inning comeback in Texas

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. The final score was 5-4 and the game took place in Rangers ballpark in Arlington, Texas. Phil Hughes started and pitched well giving up only three unearned runs. Boone Logan gave up the lead with a two run homerun but Eduardo Nunez had a big hit to tie the game in the ninth.

Hughes pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three unearned runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out one. Logan gave up two hits and a run without recording an out, Preston Claiborne pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one, Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect inning picking up his second win of the season and Mariano Rivera saved his 32nd game of the season. He pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Brett Gardner had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and an RBI and Vernon Wells had a hit and drew a walk. Nunez had two hits and an RBI, Brent Lillibridge had a hit and two RBI and Melky Mesa had a hit. Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI, Mesa, Romine and Wells each hit a double. Nunez hit a triple and the Yankees were 5-11 with runners in scoring position with four men left on base. Lillibridge had a stolen base and committed an error.

Alexi Ogando pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs. He walked none and struck out two. Ross Wolf pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Jason Frasor pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Neal Cotts pitched a perfect inning. Joe Nathan blew his second save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up two runs and two hits with a walk and a strikeout. Nathan also took the loss his first of the season; Robbie Ross pitched to one batter and retired him.

Ian Kinsler had a hit, Jurickson Profar drew a walk and Adrian Beltre had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Elvis Andrus had a hit and an RBI, Mitch Moreland had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Craig Gentry had a hit. Engel Beltre had a hit, which was a double, A. Beltre hit a double, Kinsler and Gentry each hit a double. Moreland hit a homerun and the Rangers were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

In the third Romine hit an RBI double and Suzuki hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. In the third Lillibridge hit a fielders choice and a run scored to make it 3-0. The Rangers scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning. Beltre hit an RBI double, Andrus hit an RBI single and Moreland hit a two run homerun. The Rangers took a 4-3 lead; the Yankees scored two runs in the ninth to take a 5-4 lead, which would be the final score. Nunez hit an RBI triple and Lillibridge an RBI single.

The Yankees record improved to 53-47 and the Rangers record improved to 55-45. The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.

The Yankees offense is lifeless in 3-0 loss to the Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers defeated the New York Yankees on Monday night. The final score was 3-0 and the game took place at Rangers ballpark in Arlington, Texas. Ivan Nova started and pitched well; Joba Chamberlain also pitched a scoreless inning. The Yankees managed four singles.

Nova pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts. Nova lost his third game and Chamberlain pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one.

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Lyle Overbay had two hits and Vernon Wells drew a walk. Travis Hafner drew a walk; The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

Yu Darvish earned his ninth win of the season. He pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out four. Robbie Ross pitched 2/3 of an inning retiring both batters, Tanner Scheppers pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Joe Nathan saved his 31st game of the season. Nathan pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

In the first inning the Rangers took a 1-0 lead. Beltre hit an RBI single; in the sixth Soto hit an RBI double to make it 2-0 Texas. In the seventh the Rangers scored to complete the scoring. Cruz hit a solo homerun and the final score was 3-0 Texas.

The Yankees record dropped to 52-47 and the Rangers record improved to 55-44. The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

The Yankees get even with a win in Boston

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Saturday evening. The final was 5-2 and the game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and was very good. The bullpen was good and Lyle Overbay and Eduardo Nunez led the offense with three hits each.

Kuroda pitched seven innings giving up two runs and five hits. He walked one and struck out four and earned his ninth win of the season. David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and Mariano Rivera saved his 31st game of the season. Rivera pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.

Brett Gardner had three hits and an RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and two RBI and Overbay had three hits and an RBI. Vernon Wells had a hit, Nunez had three hits and Luis Cruz had a hit and an RBI. Nunez and Overbay each hit two doubles and the Yankees were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Nunez and Cruz each stole a base and Gardner was caught stealing. Cano committed an error and Wells had an outfield assist.

John Lackey pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits and four runs. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven and took his seventh loss of the season. Joe Thornton pitched an inning giving up two hits, Pedro Beato pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up an unearned run and Drake Britton pitched a perfect inning.

Daniel Nava had a hit, David Ortiz had two hits and Mike Carp had three hits. Jonny Gomes had a hit and an RBI, Stephen Drew drew a walk and Carp hit a double. The Red Sox were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Pedroia committed an error

Gardner hit an RBI single in the fifth to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the seventh they extended their lead to 4-0. Cruz hit an RBI single; Cano hit an RBI single and Overbay an RBI single. It was 4-0 Yankees; the Red Sox scored two runs in the seventh inning to cut the lead in half. Gomes hit a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch scored the second run. The Yankees scored the final run of the game in the ninth on a Cano sacrifice fly.

The Yankees record improved to 52-45 and the Red Sox record fell to 59-40. The two teams have split the first two games of the series and the rubber game will be on Sunday night.
