The New York Yankees sweep the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4 Yankees.  David Phelps started for the Yankees and pitched well.  Derek Jeter, Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira each had a couple of hits and Carlos Beltran had a couple of RBI. 

Phelps pitched seven innings giving up two runs on six hits.  He walked two and struck out seven and earned his third win of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Matt Thornton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning and picked up his second save of the season. 

Drew Hutchison pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Hutchison lost his fifth game of the season, Aaron Loup pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Dustin McGowan pitched to two batters and retired them both and Steve Delabar pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks.  Chad Jenkins pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Jeter had two hits and an RBI and Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI.  Teixeira had two hits and drew a walk, Brian McCann drew two walks and Beltran had a hit and two RBI.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Brian Roberts had a hit and drew two walks and Kelly Johnson had an RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had an RBI and drew a walk, Gardner and Beltran each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Ellsbury and Roberts each had two stolen bases and Jeter was caught stealing.  Phelps had a pickoff. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Melky Cabrera had two hits and two RBI and Jose Bautista drew two walks.  Edward Encarnacion had two hits and two RBI, Dioner Navarro had a hit and Juan Francisco drew a walk.  Colby Rasmus had two hits including a double and Cabrera and Encarnacion each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera was picked off. 

The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the first on an Ellsbury sacrifice fly.  In the second they took a 2-0 lead on a Johnson sacrifice fly.  Cabrera hit a two run homerun in the third to tie the game at two.  The Yankees came right back in the bottom of the third and scored on a Beltran sac fly.  It was 3-2 Yankees and then Beltran hit an RBI double in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-2.  Jeter hit an RBI groundout in the sixth to push it to 5-2.  Solarte had an RBI walk to make it 6-2 and then Encarnacion hit a two run homerun in the eighth to make it 6-4 which was the final score. 

The Yankees swept the three game series and will begin a three game home series with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

The New York Mets avoid the sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals



The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 3-2 Mets.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched great.  Eric Young Jr. and Taylor Teagarden led the offense each having two hits. 

Colon pitched eight innings giving up four hits and a run with a strikeout.  He won his seventh game of the season.  Jennry Mejia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Dana Eveland earned his first save of the season pitching to one batter and retiring him. 

Lance Lynn lost his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Seth Maness pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Randy Choate pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts and Motte pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Young Jr. had two hits and two RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had a hit and an RBI.  Curtis Granderson drew three walks, Lucas Duda drew a walk and Teagarden had two hits.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Colon had a hit and Colon hit a double and Young Jr. hit two doubles.  The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Granderson was caught stealing. 

Matt Carpenter had two hits and an RBI, John Jay had a hit and Allen Craig had a hit and an RBI.  Yadier Molina had a hit, Descalso had a hit and Jay and Carpenter each hit a double.  Carpenter hit a homerun and the Cardinals were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Carpenter committed an error and Jay and Craig each had an outfield assist. 

In the first Carpenter hit a solo homerun to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Young Jr. hit an RBI double and Wright hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Young Jr. hit an RBI double in the seventh to extend the lead to 3-1.  The Cardinals cut it to 3-2 in the ninth on a Craig RBI single and that would be the final score.  The Mets avoided the three game sweep and will begin a four game series at the Miami Marlins on Thursday night. 

The New York Yankees win second straight over the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3.  Chase Whitley started and battled for five innings to pick up the win.  The bullpen was good and Brett Gardner had four hits and Brian McCann had five RBI to lead the offense. 

Whitley pitched five innings giving up two runs and five hits.  He walked one and struck out two and picked up his third win of the season.  It was the first time in four games that he walked a batter.  Adam Warren pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts, Jose Ramirez pitched and gave up two hits and a run without recording an out and Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts.  David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Mark Buehrle pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four and lost his fourth game of the season.  Chad Jenkins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs, Brett Cecil pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Sergio Santos pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Gardner had four hits, Derek Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Alfonso Soriano had a hit and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had an RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, McCann had two hits, five RBI and drew a walk and Yangervis Solarte drew a walk.  Jeter hit a double and McCann hit a triple and a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Melky Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk, Jose Bautista had two hits and an RBI and Juan Francisco had a hit and drew a walk.  Dioner Navarro had a hit and an RBI, Colby Rasmus had a hit and an RBI and Cabrera and Bautista each hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Lawrie committed an error. 
In the first Soriano hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth the Blue Jays tied the game and then took a 2-1 lead.  Navarro hit an RBI single and Rasmus hit an RBI single.  The Yankees came right back in the bottom of the fourth and scored two on a McCann two run homerun to take a 3-2 lead.  The Yankees extended their lead to 4-2 in the seventh on a Suzuki RBI walk and then McCann hit a three run triple to make it 7-2.  The Blue Jays would score another run and the final score was 7-3 Yankees.  The Yankees have won the first two games of this three game series.  They will look for the sweep on Thursday night

The New York Mets lose to the St. Louis Cardinals



The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 6-2.  Jake deGrom started for the Mets and didn't pitch that well and no Met had more than a hit. 

deGrom pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 12 hits and six runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Dana Eveland pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs with a couple of strikeouts, Gonzalez Germen pitched a perfect inning and Josh Edgin pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Carlos Martinez pitched four innings giving up two hits and an unearned run.  He walked four and struck out three.  Nick Greenwood picked up his first win of the season pitching 3 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Randy Choate pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Maness pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Curtis Granderson had an RBI and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and David Wright had a hit.  Bobby Abreu drew a walk, Chris Young had a pinch hit and an RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Ruben Tejada drew two walks, Eric Young Jr. had a hit and Duda hit a double.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Young Jr. had an outfield assist.

John Jay had two hits and drew a walk, Matt Holliday had two hits and an RBI and Allen Craig had three hits and two RBI.  Mike Adams had two hits and two RBI, Yadier Molina had a hit and drew a walk and Jhonny Peralta had two hits and an RBI.  Jay and Craig each hit a double and Adams hit a triple.  The Cardinals were 6-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Peralta committed an error. 

In the first the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Craig.  Granderson hit a sacrifice fly in the third to tie the game at one.  In the third Adams hit an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Holliday hit an RBI single, Craig an RBI double and Adams an RBI triple to extend the Cardinals lead to 5-1.  Peralta hit an RBI single to make it 6-1.  Young hit an RBI single to make it 6-2 in the eighth and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.   

The New York Yankees drop their second straight in Oakland



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at the Oakland County Coliseum in Oakland, California and the final score was  10-5.  Vidal Nuno started for the Yankees and was terrible.  Jose Ramirez wasn't that good either but the rest of the bullpen was ok.  Brett Gardner and Carlos Beltran each homered. 

Nuno pitched three innings giving up eight hits and eight runs.  He walked one and struck out two and lost his third game of the season.  Ramirez pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk, Shawn Kelley pitched an inning striking out one and Adam Warren pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.  Matt Thornton pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Jesse Chavez won his sixth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and a run.  He walked none and struck out four.  Ryan Cook pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout, Fernando Abad pitched an inning with a walk and Jim Johnson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Luke Gregorson struck out the only batter that he faced. 

Gardner had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and an RBI and Brendan Ryan drew a walk.  Alfonso Soriano had a hit, Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI and Brian McCann drew a walk.  Beltran had two hits and an RBI, Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and Yangervis Solarte drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson had a hit and drew a walk, Jeter and Teixeira each hit a double and Beltran and Gardner each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ryan committed an error and Murphy had a passed ball. 

Coco Crisp had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Craig Gentry had a hit and an RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and two RBI.  Derek Norris had three hits and three RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI after going 0-33 and Brandon Moss drew a walk. Kyle Blanks had two hits and Nick Punto had a hit and drew a walk. 

Norris hit a three run homerun in the first inning and Crisp hit a three run homerun in the second inning to give Oakland a 6-0 lead.  In the fourth Gentry was hit by a pitch to drive in a run and Cespedes hit a two run single to make it 9-0.  The A's would score one more run to make it 10-0 on a Donaldson RBI single.  The Yankees would score the last five runs of the game, Teixeira hit an RBI double in the sixth and Beltran hit a solo homerun in the seventh.  Jeter hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Gardner hit a two run homerun in the ninth.  The final score was 10-5 and Oakland took two out of the three in the series.  The Yankees will have the day off on Monday before beginning a three game home series with the Toronto Blue Jays.
