Yankees and Tigers tie

 

The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers played to a 5-5 tie on Tuesday.  The game took place at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida.  Corey Kluber started for the Yankees and he pitched well, his control wasn’t great.  Mike Tauchman and Tyler Wade each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Kluber pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up three hits and one unearned run.  He walked three and struck out four.  Nick Nelson pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Luis Garcia pitched a perfect inning and Nick Goody pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Brooks Kriske pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Tarik Skubal started for the Tigers and he pitched four innings giving up five hits and two runs with five walks and three strikeouts.  Jose Cisnero pitched an inning with two walks, Gregory Soto pitched an inning giving up a run and a walk with two strikeouts and Bryan Garcia pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout.  Tyler Alexander pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and Drew Carlton pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Tauchman had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Chris Gittens had a hit and an RBI and Luke Voit drew two walks.  Josh Breaux drew a walk, , Derek Dietrich drew three walks and Kyle Higashioka drew a walk.  Wade had two hits and drew a walk, Ryan LaMarre had a hit and drew a walk and Ezequiel Duran had a hit.  Greg Allen had a hit and two RBI, Tauchman, Allen and Gittens each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  LaMarre had a stolen base and Frazier, laMarre and Wade were all caught stealing.  Frazier was picked off. 

Robbie Grossman drew a walk, Victor Reyes had a hit and drew a walk and Nomar Mazara drew a walk.  Daz Cameron had a hit, Willi Castro had two hits and an RBI and Zack Short drew a walk.  Miguel Cabrera drew a walk, Eric Haase had a hit and three RBI and Jonathan Schoop drew a walk.  Harold Castro had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Hill had a hit and W Castro hit a triple and Haase hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  W Castro, Schoop, Mazara and Reyes each had a stolen base.  Skubal had a pickoff and Ramos had a passed ball. 

In the first Tauchman hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Castro hit an RBI single tying the game at one.  In the second Allen hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Schoop grounded into a double play and a run scored to tie the game at two.  In the seventh a wild pitch gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth the Yankees pushed their lead to 4-2 on a Allen solo homerun.  Gittens hit a solo homerun and it was 5-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Haase hit a three-run homerun to tie the game at five and that was the final score.

New York Yankees are shutdown by the Baltimore Orioles

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.  The game took place at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida and the final score was 2-1.  Michael King started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees offense only managed three hits. 

King pitched four innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Jonathan Loaisiga took his first loss of the spring pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Luis Cessa pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  

Matt Harvey started for the Orioles and he pitched four innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Mac Sceroler pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Tyler Wells pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Dillon Tate pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and picking up his first save of the spring. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and Gio Urshela had a hit and an RBI.  Derek Dietrich had a hit, Urshela hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base. 

Trey Mancini had a hit, Anthony Santander had a hit and Tyler Nevin had a hit.  Chance Sisco drew a walk, Pat Valaika had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Ramon Urias had an RBI.  Valaika hit a double and Valaika hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Hall committed an error. 

In the second Urshela hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Urias hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one and Valaika hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  The final score was 2-1. 

The Yankees will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin on Sunday afternoon.   

New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals

 

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Sunday.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 6-2.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well. Mallex Smith had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  He picked up his third win of the spring.  Miguel Castro pitched to one batter and struck him out, Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Robert Gsellman pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Max Scherzer started for the Nationals and he pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Scherzer took his first loss of the spring.  Tanner Rainey pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two runs and three walks with a strikeout, Kyle Finnegan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Sam Clay pitched an inning giving up two hits.  Luis Avilan pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two and Todd Peterson pitched an inning with two walks. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a walk, Brandon Drury had a hit and Francisco Lindor had a hit and two RBI.  Dom Smith had a hit, Drew Ferguson had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI.  Pete Alonso had a hit, Caleb Joseph drew a walk and Jeff McNeil had a hit and drew a walk.  J.D. Davis had a hit and drew a walk, Tomas Nido drew a walk and Smith had two hits and two RBI.  Smith D and Smith M each hit a double and Conforto and Lindor each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Andrew Stevenson had a hit, Trea Turner had a hit and Yadiel Hernandez drew a walk.  Josh Bell had a hit and drew a walk, Yasmany Tomas had a hit and an RBI and Carlos Tocci had an RBI.  Yan Gomes had a hit and drew a walk, Adrian Sanchez had a hit and Blake Swihart had a hit.  Gomes and Sanchez each hit a double and the Nationals were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the fourth Conforto hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  A wild pitch made it a 2-0 game.  In the fifth Lindor hit a two-run homerun pushing the lead to 4-0.  In the sixth M. Smith hit a two-run double extending the Mets lead to 6-0.  In the eighth Tomas hit an RBI single and Tocci hit into a force out scoring a run sand cutting the lead to 6-2.  6-2 would be the final score. 

The Mets will take on the Houston Astros on Monday. 

New York Mets outslug the St. Louis Cardinals

 

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.  The game took place at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 8-5.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and he pitched very well.  Francisco Lindor and Tomas Nido led the offensive charge.  Lindor had two hits and four RBI and Nido had three hits and an RBI. 

Walker pitched four innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Walker picked up his first win of the spring.  Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning, Corey Oswalt pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout and Trevor Hildenberger pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Daniel Zamora pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he earned his second save of the spring. 

Carlos Martinez started for the Cardinals and he didn’t pitch very well.  He pitched three innings giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and a strikeout.  He took his second loss of the spring.   Evan Kruczynski pitched to one batter and got him out, Thomas Parsons pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two, Matthew Liberatore pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Jesus Cruz pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, Lindor had two hits and four RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk.  Johneshwy Fargas had a hit, Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI and Patrick Mazeika had a hit and drew a walk.  J.D. Davis had a hit, Nido three hits and an RBI and Brandon Drury an RBI.  Alonso and Nido each hit a double and Fargas hit a triple.  Nido and Lindor each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Lindor was caught stealing. 

Matt Carpenter drew a walk, Dylan Carlson had a hit and Evan Mendoza had a hit and an RBI.  Delvin Perez had a hit, Edmundo Sosa had a hit and Jose Rondon drew a walk.  John Nogowski had a hit and drew a walk, Max Moroff had a hit and two RBI and Scott Hurst had a hit and two RBI.  Mendoza and Perez each hit a double and Moroff and Hurst each hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Mendoza committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Alonso hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nido hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Drury reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored extending the Mets lead to 3-0.  Lindor hit a grand-slam and it was 7-0 Mets.  In the sixth Moroff hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-2.  Mendoza hit an RBI double and it was a 7-3 game.  In the eighth Hurst hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-5.  In the bottom of the eighth Tovar reached on a fielder’s choice pushing the lead to 8-5 and that was the final score. 

The Mets will be off on Saturday and take on the Nationals in West Palm Beach on Sunday. 

New York Mets lose to the Washington Nationals

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Thursday.  The game took place at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 3-1.  Marcus Stroman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Kevin Pillar led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Stroman pitched five innings giving up two hits and a run with six strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and he took his first loss of the spring.  Aaron Loup pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Trevor May pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jon Lester started for the Nationals and he pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Luis Avilan pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Sam Clay pitched two innings giving up a hit and a strikeout and he earned his first win of the spring.  Kyle Finnegan pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Todd Peterson pitched an inning giving up a walk and Steven Fuentes pitched an inning giving up two hits and he earned his first save of the spring. 

Johneshwy Fargas drew a walk, Pillar had two hits and J.D. Davis drew two walks.  James McCann had a hit and an RBI, Patrick Mazeika had a hit and Jake Hager had a hit.  Albert Almora Jr. had a hit, McCann hit a double and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Davis committed an error and Nimmo had an outfield assist. 

Victor Robles had a hit, Juan Soto had a hit and Hernan Perez had a hit.  Josh Bell had a hit and an RBI, Kyle Schwarber had a hit and an RBI and Yadiel Hernandez had two hits and an RBI.  Robles and Perez each hit a double and Schwarber, Hernandez and Bell each hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the bottom of the first McCann hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Schwarber hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  IN the sixth Hernandez hit a solo homerun giving the Nationals a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Bell hit a solo homerun extending the Nationals lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will remain home and take on the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
