The New York Yankees win a wild one to take the series over the Baltimore Orioles


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night. The final score was 6-5 and the game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. Phil Hughes started and pitched 3+ innings and then David Huff did the same. They combined for six effective innings. David Robertson had a rough eighth but Mariano Rivera nailed down the win. Alfonso Soriano had a couple of hits and a couple of very good catches.

Hughes pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with three strikeouts. Huff pitched three innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Cesar Cabral pitched to one batter and retired him. Robertson pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with two strikeouts and Rivera picked up his sixth win of the season pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning. He didn’t get the save because the official scorer deemed that Robertson struggled and shouldn’t get the win.

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Alex Rodriguez drew three walks and Soriano had two hits. Robinson Cano had a hit and drew a walk, Vernon Wells had a hit and two RBI and Eduardo Nunez had a hit. Mark Reynolds had a hit and two RBI, Brendan Ryan had a hit and Soriano hit a double. Reynolds and Granderson each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Nunez committed an error.

Wei-Yin Chen pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and nine strikeouts. Josh Stinson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one and Jim Johnson lost his eighth game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run, which was his fault. He walked one committed his own error and threw a wild pitch.

Manny Machado had a hit and an RBI, Chris Davis had two hits and Adam Jones had a hit. Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI, Danny Valencia had a hit and three RBI and J.J. Hardy had two hits. Matt Wieters had a hit and drew a walk, Hardy hit a double and Markakis and Valencia each hit a homerun. The Orioles were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

In the second Reynolds hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. In the third Wells hit a two run single to increase the lead to 4-0. The Orioles got on the board in the third on a Machado RBI single. It was 4-1 Yankees and then Granderson hit a solo homerun in the seventh to push the lead to 5-1. The Orioles cut the lead to 5-2 in the seventh on a Markakis solo homerun. The Orioles tied the game at five in the eighth on a Valencia three run homerun. The Yankees took the lead in the ninth on a wild pitch by Johnson which was set up by an errant throw into center setting up another bunt to make it second and third one out. The final score was 6-5 and the Yankees took the series three out of four games.

The Yankees record improved to 79-68 and the Orioles record fell to 77-69. The Yankees will now head to Boston for a three game series. The Yankees remain one game out of the second wild card and three behind Texas for the first wild card. The Yankees schedule after these next three games is pretty easy and they play the Rays three games at home.

The New York Mets lose 7-2 to the Washington Nationals


The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon. The final score was 7-2 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Aaron Harang started for the Mets and pitched pretty well, the bullpen wasn’t great. Eric Young Jr. and Anthony Recker each had two hits.

Harang pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and ten strikeouts. Harang lost his 12th game of the season. Pedro Feliciano gave up a hit and a run, Scott Atchison pitched an inning striking out one and Frank Francisco pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Sean Henn pitched to one batter and retired the batter.

Young Jr. had two hits and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit. Mike Baxter had a hit, Recker had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Harang had a hit. Murphy hit a double and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Young had a stolen base.

Tanner Roark won his sixth game of the season pitching six innings giving up six hits. He gave up two runs and a walk with three strikeouts. Craig Stammen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Xavier Cedeno pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Mattheus pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out the sides.

Denard Span had a hit and drew a walk, Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and two RBI and Bryce Harper had a hit. Ian Desmond had an RBI, Adam LaRoche had two hits and an RBI and Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI. Anthony Rendon had a hit and two RBI. LaRoche, Span and Zimmerman each hit a double. Zimmerman, LaRoche, Ramos and Rendon each hit a homerun. The Nationals were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Harper had an outfield assist.

The game was tied at one after one and then the Nationals took a 2-1 lead after two innings. The Mets tied the game at two in the fourth and the Nationals took a 3-2 lead in the fifth. They scored four runs in the last three innings to pull away and win the game 7-2.

The Mets record fell to 64-81 and the Nationals record improved to 77-69.

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night. The final score was 3-0 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched seven good innings. Juan Lagares led the offense with two of their three hits.

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts. Wheeler lost his fifth game of the season, Vic Black pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning striking out two.

Lagares had two hits and Josh Satin had a hit and drew a walk. The Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Lagares had a stolen base.

Dan Haren pitched six innings giving up a hit and no runs with a walk and eight strikeouts. Haren won his ninth game of the season, Xavier Cedeno pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Drew Storen pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Rafael Soriano saved his 41st game of the season. Soriano pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Denard Span had a hit, Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and an RBI and Jayson Werth had a hit. Bryce Harper had a hit, Ian Desmond had two hits and Adam LaRoche had a hit and drew a walk. Zimmerman hit a solo homerun in the sixth to give the Nats a 1-0 lead. In the eighth they scored two runs to take a 3-0 lead and that would be the final score. Rendon hit a two run double.

The Mets record fell to 64-80 and the Nationals improved to 76-69. The two teams will play the series finale on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. The final score was 5-4 and the game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. Andy Pettitte started and pitched ok, Mariano Rivera made it interesting but picked up the save. Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano each hit a solo homerun.

Pettitte pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and three runs. He walked one and struck out three. Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, David Robertson won his fifth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and striking out one. Rivera picked up his 43rd save of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run. He struck out one.

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI and Cano had two hits and two RBI. Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Lyle Overbay had a hit and an RBI and Granderson hit a triple. Granderson, Rodriguez and Cano each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Gardner had a stolen base.

Scott Feldman pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Tommy Hunter took his fourth loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Troy Patton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Brian Roberts had three hits and an RBI, Manny Machado had two hits and Chris Davis had a hit and two RBI. Danny Valencia had four hits, J.J. Hardy hit an RBI double in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-1 Orioles. The Yankees would cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth on a Granderson solo homerun. In the sixth the game was tied at three on a Rodriguez solo homerun. The Yankees took a 5-3 lead in the ninth on a Cano solo homerun and Overbay RBI single. The Orioles would score a run in the ninth on a Roberts RBI single. The final score was 5-4 Yankees.

The Yankees record improved to 78-68 and the Orioles record fell to 77-68. The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday night.

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The final score was 6-3 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched ok and bullpen was ok. Justin Turner and Travis d’Arnaud each had two hits.

Gee pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with no walks and five strikeouts. Gee lost his 10th game of the season, Pedro Feliciano faced two batters and retired them both, Vic Black pitched a perfect inning and Frank Francisco pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. Tim Byrdak pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit. Rafael Soriano saved his 40th game pitching an inning and giving up a hit.

Scott Hairston had a hit and two RBI, Walters had a hit and Moore and Span each hit a double and Werth hit two doubles. Werth, LaRoche and Hairston each hit a homerun. The Nationals were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Desmond was caught stealing and LaRoche committed two errors.

Werth hit a solo homerun in the first to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. LaRoche hit a solo homerun in the second to make it a 2-0 game. Werth hit an RBI double in the third to extend the lead to 3-0. In the fourth Turner hit an RBI single. Ramos hit an RBI single in the sixth to make it a 4-1 game. den Dekker hit a two run single in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3. Hairston hit a two run homerun in the ninth to push the lead to 6-3 and that was the final score.

The Mets record fell to 64-79 and the Nationals record improved to 75-69. The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. The final score was 7-5 and the game was played at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and was ok; he had to leave the game after six innings with forearm tightness. The bullpen was good with Mariano Rivera picking up a four out save. Alfonso Soriano led the offense with a couple of homeruns.

Nova pitched six innings giving up four runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out two. Adam Warren picked up his second win of the season pitching an inning and striking out one, Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run with a walk and a strikeout and Mariano Rivera retired all four batters he faced for his 42nd save of the season.

Brett Gardner had a hit, Alex Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI and Robinson Cano had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Alfonso Soriano had two hits and three RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Mark Reynolds had two hits and two RBI. Miguel Gonzalez started for the Orioles and pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs. He had six strikeouts and no walks. Kevin Gausman pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts and lost his fifth game of the season. Francisco Rodriguez pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Josh Stinson pitched to one batter and struck him out and Brian Matusz pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout.

Rodriguez hit an RBI double in the third to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the fifth Urrutia hit an RBI single, Markakis hit a sacrifice fly and Davis hit a two run homerun and it was 4-1 Orioles. Soriano hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2 and Reynolds added a solo homerun to make it 4-3. In the eighth Cano hit an RBI single, Soriano hit a two run homerun and Reynolds hit a two run double and it was 7-4 Yankees. The Orioles would score another run in the eighth on a Wieters sac fly. The final score was 7-5 Yankees.

The Yankees record improved to 77-68 and the Orioles record fell to 77-67. The two teams will play game three of there four game set on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets defeated the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 2-1 and the game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched well for the Mets and their bullpen held the lead. Eric Young Jr. Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner each had two hits. Matsuzaka pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and six strikeouts. Vic Black pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one, Pedro Feliciano pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Frank Francisco earned his first win of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk. LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one to earn his eighth save of the season.

Young Jr. had two hits and an RBI, Murphy had two hits and drew three walks and Josh Satin had a hit. Lucas Duda drew two walks, Turner had two hits and an RBI and Matthew den Dekker had a hit. The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 4-3 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched well. Mariano Rivera pitched two innings picking up the win. Robinson Cano had three hits; Ichiro Suzuki and Alex Rodriguez each had two hits.

Kuroda pitched six innings giving up two runs and five hits. He walked two and struck out six. Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one and Rivera pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts. Rivera blew his seventh save of the season but picked up his fifth win of the season.

Suzuki had two hits, Vernon Wells had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit. Cano had three hits and two RBI, Rodriguez had two hits and drew a walk and Mark Reynolds had a hit and an RBI. Jon Lester pitched eight innings giving up three runs on ten hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Brandon Workman took his third loss of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a run and a hit with a strikeout.

Cano hit a two run double in the fifth to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Saltalamacchia hit an RBI groundout in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2 Yankees. In the ninth Middlebrooks hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three. In the bottom of the ninth Suzuki hit a single, stole second, advanced to third on a fly ball and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. The Yankees escaped with a 4-3 win and avoided the four game sweep. The Yankees record improved to 76-67 and the Red Sox record dropped to 87-58.

The Yankees will begin a three game series in Baltimore on Monday night. The Yankees trail the Tampa Bay Rays by 2 ½ games for the final playoff spot with 18 games to play. The Yankees and Rays will meet three more times at Yankee Stadium

The New York Yankees lost to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon. The final score was 13-9 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. David Huff started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch very well. Brett Gardner, Robinson Cano and Ichiro Suzuki each had a couple of hits.

Huff pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and nine runs with no walks and two strikeouts. Huff lost his first game of the season, Jim Miller pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and Brett Marshall pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.

Brett Gardner had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and an RBI and Mark Reynolds had a hit and two RBI. Cano had two hits and an RBI, Alfonso Soriano had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Eduardo Nunez had a hit and drew a walk. Lyle Overbay had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Suzuki had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and J.R. Murphy had a hit. Suzuki hit an RBI double in the fourth to make it 10-3. Bogaerts hit a two run homerun in the fifth to push the lead to 12-3. In the sixth Gardner hit a two run double, Jeter hit an RBI single and Soriano hit an RBI single to make it 12-7. Reynolds hit a two run double in the eighth to make it 12-9 and the Red Sox added another run in the ninth to make it 13-9 and that was the final score.

The Yankees have lost the first three games of this four game series. The Yankees record fell to 75-67 and the Red Sox record improved to 87-57. The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees will try and avoid the four game sweep.

Claiborne struck out one; Joba Chamberlain pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks. He struck out one and Matt Daley pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.

Ruby De La Rosa pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Brandon Workman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two. Workman picked up his fifth win of the season. Franklin Morales pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout and Koji Uehara pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Shane Victorino had two hits and two RBI, Mike Carp had a hit and drew a walk and Dustin Pedroia had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk. David Ortiz drew a walk, Mike Napoli had three hits, four RBI and drew two walks and Daniel Nava had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks. Stephen Drew a hit and two RBI, David Ross had two hits and an RBI and Will Middlebrooks had two hits and an RBI. Napoli and Pedroia each hit a double; Middlebrooks, Napoli and Victorino each hit a homerun. The Red Sox were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Nava had an outfield assist and Doubront had a pickoff.

Soriano hit a two run homerun in the first giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Ross hit an RBI single in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. Nunez hit an RBI triple in the second to push the Yankees lead to 3-1 and Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game. In the fourth Drew hit an RBI groundout and the lead was cut to 4-2. Gardner hit a two run triple in the fourth and it was 6-2 Yankees, in the fifth Middlebrooks hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-3 game. In the bottom of the fifth Wells hit an RBI single and Reynolds hit an RBI single to give the Yankees an 8-3 lead. In the seventh Pedroia hit an RBI single and Napoli hit a grand slam to tie the game at eight. Victorino hit a two run homerun in the eighth and Nava had an RBI walk and Drew hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 12-8 lead. 12-8 would be the final score as the Yankees blew a big lead and lost their second in a row to the Red Sox. The Yankees record dropped to 75-66 and the Red Sox record improved to 86-57. The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.
