New York Yankees lose last exhibition game in Atlanta


New York Yankees were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 8-5.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Gary Sanchez and Greg Bird each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Pineda pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Aroldis Chapman pitched to one batter and struck him out, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Dellin Betances took his first loss of the spring giving up two hits and two runs without recording an out.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks.  Bryan Mitchell pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve pitched to two batters and retired them both and Ben Heller pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Sanchez had two hits, Bird had two hits and two RBI and Mike Ford had a hit.  Chris Carter had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Dustin Fowler had a hit and two RBI.  Rob Refsnyder had a hit, Rashad Crawford drew a walk and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Sanchez, Ford and Fowler each hit a double.  Bird and Carter each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Kozma had a stolen base and Andujar committed an error. 

In the third Bird hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the third Freddie Freeman hit a three-run homerun giving the Braves a 3-2 lead.  IN the sixth Fowler hit a two-run double to give the Yankees back the lead at 4-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Kurt Suzuki reached on an error and a run scored to tie the game at four.  A walk made it 5-4 Atlanta and Jace Peterson hit a three-run double to make it 8-4.  Carter hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 8-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees finished the spring with a 24-9-1 record.  They will be off on Saturday and open the season Sunday afternoon in Tampa Bay.  Masahiro Tanaka will start for the Yankees and go up against Chris Archer.  The Yankees will have the rookies in Bird, Sanchez and Judge starting and look to have Sanchez in the two hole with Ellsbury being dropped down to five.  It should be interesting to see the young kids in action.

New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Florida and the final score was 3-1.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Montgomery won his first game of the spring.  Ben Heller pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and J.R. Graham pitched a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Trey Amburgey had a hit and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Judge had two hits and an RBI, Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Francisco Diaz had a hit, Torreyes hit a double and Castro hit a triple.  The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Hicks had a stolen base and Judge had a stolen base. 

In the second Judge hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Gregorio Petit hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Romine hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and Gardner hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-1.  That would be the final score. 

The Yankees have two exhibition games left with only one left in Florida on Thursday afternoon.  They will fly up to Atlanta on Friday to play the Braves in their new stadium on Friday night and then open the season on Sunday afternoon in Tampa against the Rays.

New York Yankees fall to the Detroit Tigers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 6-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he was pretty good.  Aaron Judge hit a homerun and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with only one being earned.  He walked two and struck out six and took his first loss of the spring.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and two run with three strikeouts, Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Ernesto Frieri pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  J.P. Feyereisen pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Rob Refsnyder had an RBI and Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Kyle Higashioka drew a walk, Greg Bird drew a walk and Matt Holliday had a hit.  Jacoby Ellsbury had an RBI, Pete Kozma had a hit and Judge had a hit and an RBI.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit and Tyler Wade had a hit.  Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base.  Bird and Sanchez each committed an error. 

In the first Alex Presley hit an RBI double giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  Avila drew a walk and on a throwing error by the catcher a run scored to push the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the first Ellsbury hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Justin Upton hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 4-1.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-2.  Refsnyder hit a sac fly cutting it to 4-3 still in the seventh.  In the eighth Steven Moya hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 6-3 and that was the final score.   

New York Mets played to a tie with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 3-3.  Robert Gsellman pitched just ok for the Mets.  Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Cespedes had two hits, Walker had two hits and Lucas Duda had a hit and three RBI.  Walker hit a double, Cespedes hit a triple and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the fourth Matt Adams hit a three-run homerun to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead and in the bottom of the fourth Duda hit a three-run homerun to tie the game and that was how it would end.   

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals on Monday afternoon in a split squad game.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 6-0.  Seth Lugo started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  The Mets offense only managed three hits. 

Lugo lost his first game of the spring pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Josh Edgin pitched to two batters and struck one out, Fernando Salas pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Paul Sewald pitched two innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  David Roseboom pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Neil Walker drew a walk and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Travis d’Arnaud had a hit, Travis Taijeron had a hit and drew two walks and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the third Trea Turner hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Bryce Harper hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 2-0.  IN the fourth Ryan Zimmerman hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0.  Turner hit his second homerun of the game in the fifth to make it a 4-0 game and in the eighth Harper hit his second homer of the game a two-run shot to make it a 6-0 game.  6-0 would be the final score.   

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Monday afternoon in a split squad game.  The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 5-0.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well.  T.J. Rivera and Rene Rivera each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched five innings giving up two hits and no runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Wheeler won his first game of the season.  Chasen Bradford pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Kevin McGowan pitched a perfect inning and Logan Taylor pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out a batter.  Cory Burns pitched a perfect inning. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Luis Guillorme had a hit and Patrick Biondi had a hit and drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk, Kevin Kaczmarski drew a walk and Jay Bruce had a hit and an RBI.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, L.J. Mazzilli drew a walk and T.J. Rivera had two hits and three RBI.  Rene Rivera had two hits, Flores, R. Rivera and Guillorme each hit a double.  T. Rivera hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the sixth Bruce hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Flores hit an RBI double still in the sixth to extend the lead to 2-0, T. Rivera hit a three-run homerun and the lead was pushed to 5-0.  All the runs were scored in the sixth and 5-0 was the final.

New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 8-2.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched well and Jose Reyes led the offense with three hits. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Fernando Salas pitched to two batters and retired them both, Jerry Blevins won his second game of the spring pitching to one batter and striking him out and Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning with two strikeouts. 

Reyes had three hits and an RBI, T.J. Rivera had a hit and an RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and an RBI.  Luis Guillorme drew a walk, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk and Ian Strom had a hit and an RBI.  Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Matt Oberste drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki had two hits and Ty Kelly had a hit and two RBI.  Plawecki, Reyes, Kelly and Rivera each hit a double and Reyes hit a triple.  The Mets were 6-16 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

In the third Ender Inciarte hit an RBI single to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Inciarte hit a sac fly to push the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Reyes hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 2-1.  Cabrera hit an RBI single to tie the game at two in the fifth.  In the seventh a wild pitch gave the Mets a 3-2 lead.  Granderson hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 4-2 lead and in the eighth Kelly hit a two-run double to push the lead to 6-2.  Rivera hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 7-2 in the eighth and Strom hit an RBI single to make it 8-2 still in the eighth and that would be the final score.   

New York Yankees defeat the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 7-4.  Bryan Mitchell started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch great.  Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Mitchell pitched three innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Mitchell did earn his third win of the spring.  Aroldis Chapman pitched to two batters and struck out one, Ben Heller pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Ernesto Frieri pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and J.R. Graham pitched a perfect inning and saved his first game of the spring. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Hicks had two hits and three RBI and Rob Refsnyder had a hit and drew a walk.  Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI, Chris Carter drew a walk and Judge had two hits.  Austin Romine had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Kyle Higashioka had a hit and Ronald Torreyes had an RBI.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Thairo Estrada had a hit and Pete Kozma had a hit.  Refsnyder, Higashioka and Estrada each hit a double and Hicks and Tejada each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Tejada committed an error. 

In the second Torreyes hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Brad Miller hit a two-run single to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the third Hicks hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  Bird hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead still in the third and Romine hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-2.  In the fourth Mallex Smith reached on a force attempt error and a run scored to cut the lead to 4-3.  Hicks hit a two-run homerun in the fourth and it pushed the Yankees lead to 6-3.  Tejada hit a solo homerun in the sixth to make it a 7-3 game and in the eighth Angel Moreno hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-4 and that was the final score.

New York Mets shutout the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Champion Stadium in Orlando, Florida and the final score was 3-0.  Rafael Montero started for the Mets and pitched great.  Ty Kelly and Michael Conforto each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montero pitched five innings giving up four hits and no runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Montero picked up his first win of the spring.  Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning and Paul Sewald pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he saved his second game of the spring. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, John Mora Jr. had a hit and Kelly had two hits.  Conforto had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Rene Rivera drew a walk.  Luis Guillorme drew a walk, Montero had a hit and L.J. Mazzilli had an RBI.  Lagares hit a triple and Conforto hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Guillorme was picked off. 

In the first a passed ball gave the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Conforto hit a solo homerun and the lead was extended to 2-0.  In the seventh Mazzilli hit a sac fly to make it a 3-0 game and that would be the final score.

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 6-5.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch so well.  The Yankees offense had nine hits but no one had more than a hit. 

Warren pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Tommy Layne pitched to two batters and struck out one and Jonathan Holder pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout.  Jon Niese pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, J.P. Feyereisen pitched an inning with a  walk and two strikeouts and Matt Marsh pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and won his first game of the spring. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Mason Williams had a hit and an RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit and an RBI.  Pete Kozma had a hit and an RBI, Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Zack Zehner had a hit, Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI and Tyler Wade had a hit.  Wade hit a double and Bird hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Hicks and Ellsbury each had a stolen base. 

In the first Kendrys Morales hit an RBI single to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the second Ryan Goins hit a two-run homerun to push the Blue Jays lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the second Bird hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-1.  Romine hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2 still in the second.  In the third Holliday hit an RBI single and the game was tied at three.  In the fourth Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a solo homerun giving the Blue Jays the lead back at 4-3.  In the seventh Devon Travis hit an RBI single and the lead was extended to 5-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Williams hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Williams reached on an error and a run scored to tie the game at five and Kozma hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Yankees a 6-5 win.
