The New York Yankees defeated the
Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.
The game took place at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Florida
and the final score was 4-3. Mitchell
pitched great for the Yankees and Ronald Torreyes led the offense with a couple
of hits.
Mitchell pitched four scoreless
innings giving up a hit and he struck out four.
Anthony Swarzak pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs
with two strikeouts, Diego Moreno pitched an inning giving up two htis and a
run with a strikeout and Branden Pinder pitched an inning giving up a hit and a
walk with a strikeout. Conor Mullee
pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out the side.
Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI,
Lane Adams drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit. Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI, Mark
Teixeira had an RBI and Deibinson Romero drew a walk. Torreyes had two hits, Pete Kozma had a hit
and Cesar Puello had a hit. Torreyes and
Puello each hit a double and Hicks hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
Torreyes had a stolen base and Refsnyder and Hicks each committed an
error.
In the first Hicks hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a quick 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth Josh Thole hit an RBI double to tie the game
at one. Ezequiel Carrera hit a sac fly
to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. In the
sixth Rodriguez hit an RBI single and the game was tied at two, Teixeira
reached on a fielder's choice and a run
scored making it 3-2 Yankees. In the
bottom of the seventh Jio Mier hit an RBI double to tie the game at three. In the ninth a run scored on a missed catch
error by the Blue Jays and the Yankees had a 4-3 lead which would hold up.
The Yankees improved their spring
record to 10-12 with a couple of tie games also. The Yankees will play at home in Tampa
against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.
