The New York Yankees complete the sweep over the Seattle Mariners



The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night.  The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 6-3.  Chase Whitley started the game and pitched very well.  The Yankees bullpen held the lead and the offense was led by Derek Jeter who had three hits. 

Whitley won his second game of the season pitching 7 2/3 innings and giving up five hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.  Whitley hasn't walked a batter in his last four games.  Matt Thornton pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter, Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and David Robertson picked up his 16th save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning with two strikeouts. 

Roenis Elias lost his fifth game of the season pitching 3 1/3 innings and giving up six hits and six runs.  He walked three and struck out four.  Dominic Leone pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout, Danny Farquhar pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Yoervis Medina pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Charlie Furbush pitched an inning giving up two hits and struck out one. 

Jeter had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a pinch hit.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk, Alfonso Soriano had a hit and two RBI and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Brian Roberts drew a walk, John Ryan Murphy had two hits and Soriano and Murphy each hit a double.  Ellsbury hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Soriano had a stolen base and Murphy committed an error. 

James Jones had a hit and an RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and drew a walk and Dustin Ackley had a hit.  Logan Morrison had two hits and two RBI, Brad Miller had two hits and Miller, Ackley and Morrison each hit a double.  Morrison hit a homerun and the Mariners were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  

Ellsbury hit a two run homerun in the first to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Morrison hit a solo homerun in the second to make it a 2-1 game.  Soriano hit a two run double in the third to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  Jeter hit a two run single in the fourth to make it 6-1 Yankees.  Jones hit an RBI single in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-2 and then in the ninth they scored another run to make it 6-3.  Morrison hit an RBI double and 6-3 was the final score.  The Yankees swept the three game series and will head to Oakland to start a three game series on Friday night and end their long road trip.

The New York Mets lose in extra innings to the Milwaukee Brewers



The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-1 in 13 innings.  Jon Niese started and pitched well for the Mets.  The bullpen was good except for Carlos Torres who got hit hard. 

Niese pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up sixhits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout, Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him and Jennry Mejia pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.  Gonzalez Germen pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Torres lost his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Dana Eveland pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Kyle Lohse pitched eight innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He struck out three.  Will Smith pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Brandon Kintzler pitched two innings giving up a hit and four walks with two strikeouts and Zach Duke won his fourth game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Francisco Rodriguez pitched an inning with a strikeout.   

Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk, Bobby Abreu had a hit and an RBI and David Wright had a hit and drew a walk.  Lucas Duda drew a walk, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Andrew Brown had a hit.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Anthony Recker had a hit and the Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Young and Wright each had a stolen base. 

Rickie Weeks had an RBI, Ryan Braun had a hit and Jonathan Lucroy had a hit and two RBI.  Carlos Gomez had two hits, Aramis Ramirez had three hits and an RBI and Khalil Davis had a hit and drew two walks.  Mark Reynolds had two hits and an RBI, Jean Segura had two hits and Lohse had a hit.  Ramirez hit a double and a homerun and Lucroy hit a homerun.  The Brewers were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Segura had a stolen base and Gomez and Segura each committed an error with Gomez having an outfield assist. 

Ramirez hit a solo homerun in the second to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Abreu hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one.  In the 13th Lucroy hit a two run homerun to give the Brewers a 3-1 lead, Reynolds hit an RBI single to make it 4-1 and Weeks was hit by a pitch to make it 5-1.  The Brewers won two out of the three in the series and the Mets will remain at home to take on the San Diego Padres on Friday night. 

The New York Yankees win second straight in Seattle



The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 4-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started and was great.  Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter and Jacoby Ellsbury each had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched a complete game giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and 11 strikeouts.  The two runs were on one swing in the ninth by Cano hitting a homerun. 

Chris Young pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Tom Wilhelmsen pitched three innings giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts and Joe Beimel pitched an inning giving up a hit.   

Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, Jeter had two hits and Ellsbury had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Brian Roberts had a hit, Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Jeter had two stolen bases. 

James Jones had two hits, Robinson Cano had a hit and two RBI and Kyle Seager had a hit.  Mike Zunino had a hit, Brad Miller had a hit and Zunino hit a double.  Cano hit a homerun and the Mariners were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Zunino committed an error. 

In the third Ellsbury hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Teixeira hit a three run homerun in the fifth to extend the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the ninth Cano hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees have taken the first two of the three game series and the finale will be on Thursday night.

The New York Mets lose to the Brewers



The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Jake deGrom started for the Mets and pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Curtis Granderson had a couple of hits. 

deGrom pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He lost his third game of the season.  Josh Edgin faced one batter and retired him, Carlos Torres pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Dana Eveland pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one.  Vic Black pitched an inning giving up a walk. 

Wily Peralta won his sixth game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Zach Duke faced one batter and retired him, Rob Wooten pitched to one batter and retired him and Will Smith pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Francisco Rodriguez earned his 20th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Daniel Murphy had a hit, Granderson had two hits and Bobby Abreu had a hit.  Lucas Duda had an RBI, Andrew Brown had a hit and Granderson hit a double.  The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Duda and Tejada each committed an error and den Dekker had an outfield assist. 

Scooter Gennett had two hits, Ryan Braun had a hit and drew two walks and Jonathan Lucroy had three hits and an RBI.  Carlos Gomez had two hits and an RBI, Aramis Ramirez had a hit and Khalil Davis had a hit.  Mark Reynolds drew a walk, Jean Segura had a hit and an RBI and Gennett, Ramirez and Lucroy each hit a double.  The Brewers were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Duda hit a sacrifice fly in the second giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third LuCroy had an RBI groundout to tie the game at one.  Segura hit an RBI single in the fourth to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Gomez hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 and that is the way the score would stay.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Thursday night. 

The New York Mets end their six game losing streak



The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Taylor Teagarden hit a grand slam. 

Matsuzaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Matsuzaka won his third game of the season.  Vic Black pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Marco Estrada pitched six innings giving up four hits and six runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Estrada lost his third game of the season.   Mike Fiers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Zach Duke pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and David Wright drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Chris Young had a hit and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Teagarden had a hit and four RBI, Matt den Dekker had a hit and Tejada hit a double.  Murphy and Teagarden each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Young had a stolen base.

Murphy hit a two run homerun in the third to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Overbay hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Teagarden hit a grand slam to give the Mets a 6-1 lead.  Gomez hit an RBI double in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees win late in Seattle



The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 3-2.  Vidal Nuno started and pitched well, the bullpen was ok.  Derek Jeter had two hits and Jacoby Ellsbury had the game winning hit. 

Nuno pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and he won his fourth game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and David Robertson saved his 15th game of the season pitching an inning giving up a walk and striking out the sides. 

Hisashi Iwakuma pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his third game of the season.  Charlie Furbush pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jeter had two hits and drew a walk and Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Carlos Beltran had two hits and an RBI and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Brian Roberts drew a walk.  Beltran and Jeter each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Roberts was caught stealing.

The Yankees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.  Beltran hit an RBI double and McCann an RBI single.  The Mariners came right back with a run in the bottom of the first on a Gillespie RBI single.  The Mariners tied the game in the seventh on an Ackley RBI single.  The Yankees took a 3-2 lead in the eighth on an Ellsbury RBI single and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets are swept in San Francisco



The New York Mets were defeated by the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at AT+T Park in San Francisco, California and the final score was 6-4.  Zack Wheeler started and didn't pitch well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Daniel Murphy and Curtis Granderson each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Wheeler lost his sixth game of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him, Dana Eveland pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out three, Carlos Torres pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Scott Rice didn't record an out and gave up a hit and a run.  Vic Black pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Tim Lincecum won his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Juan Gutierrez pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Jeremy Affeldt pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Jean Machi pitched to one batter and retired him.  Javier Lopez pitched to one batter and walked him and Sergio Romo saved his 20th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Matt den Dekker drew a walk, Murphy had three hits and Granderson had three hits and three RBI.  Chris Young had a hit, Lucas Duda drew a walk and Eric Campbell had two hits.  Granderson hit a double and two homeruns.  The Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  den Dekker had a stolen base and was caught stealing.  Wheeler committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

Gregor  Blanco had two hits and three RBI, Hunter Pence drew a walk and Pablo Sandoval had two hits.  Hector Sanchez had a hit, Tyler Colvin had a hit and Brandon Crawford had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brandon Hicks had a hit and an RBI, Lincecum had a hit and Ehire Adrianza had a hit.  Blanco and Crawford hit a double and the Giants were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Granderson hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.   In the second B. Crawford hit an RBI single and Blanco hit a two run double to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.  In the third Morse grounded into a double play and a run scored giving the Giants a 4-2 lead.  Granderson hit a solo homerun in the sixth to make it a 4-3 game.  In the seventh Blanco hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 Giants.  The Mets pulled to within one on a wild pitch in the eighth.  Hicks hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to make it 6-4 and that would be the final score of the game.  The Giants swept the three game series and the Mets have been swept in back-to-back series now.  The Mets return home to take on the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees offense fails as they lose in Kansas City



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 2-1.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched well and the offense had many chances but didn't get the big hit when they needed it. 

Kuroda pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Kuroda lost his fourth game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning. 

James Shields pitched six innings giving up six hits and an unearned run.  He walked two and struck out eight  and won his seventh game of the season.  Aaron Crow pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Wade Davis pitched an inning striking out two and Gred Holland pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Holland earned his 18th save of the season.    

Brett Gardner had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Yangervis Solarte had two hits, Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and an RBI and Brian Roberts had a hit and drew a walk.  Ellsbury, Roberts and Solarte each hit a double.  Gardner hit a triple and the Yankees were 1-17 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Nori Aoki drew a walk, Omar Infante had a hit and Alex Gordon drew a walk.  Salvador Perez had a hit, Lorenzo Cain had a hit and an RBI and Mike Moustakas had a hit and an RBI.  Alex Escobar had a hit, Cain hit a double and the Royals were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Infante was caught stealing and Perez had a passed ball. 

In the second Cain hit an RBI double and Moustakas an RBI single to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.  The Yankees scored their only run in the sixth on a Suzuki groundout.  The Yankees had plenty of chances including in the ninth inning but just couldn't cash in.  The Royals have taken two out of the first three and they are scheduled to play the fourth and final game of the series on Monday night.

The New York Yankees win streak ends at two in Kansas City



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 8-4.  David Phelps started and didn' t pitch well and Jacoby Ellsbury and Yangervis Solarte each had two hits. 

Phelps pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and seven runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Phelps lost his fourth game of the season, Matt Daley pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Jose Ramirez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one. 

Danny Duffy pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Aaron Crow won his third game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout, Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Michael Mariot pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.

Nori Aoki had a hit and an RBI, Jarrod Dyson drew a walk and Eric Hosmer had a hit and an RBI.  Billy Butler had a hit and drew a walk, Alex Gordon had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Salvador Perez had three hits and three RBI.  Lorenzo Cain had three hits and an RBI, Mike Moustakas had a hit and Alcides Escobar had a hit and an RBI.  Butler, Gordon and Perez each hit a double.  Cain hit a triple, Perez and Hosmer each hit a homerun and the Royals were 7-15 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Gordon hit an RBI double in the second, Cain hit an RBI single and Escobar hit an RBI single to make it 3-0.  In the sixth Beltran hit an RBI double and Solarte hit a two run single to tie the game at three.  In the bottom of the sixth Perez hit a three run homerun and Aoki hit an RBI single to give the Royals a 7-3 lead.  The Royals would add a run in the seventh with a Hosmer solo homerun and then in the ninth Roberts hit an RBI groundout to make it 8-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two of their four game series.  The teams will play game three on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets were defeated by the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.  The game took place at AT+T Park in San Francisco, California and the final score was 4-2.  Jon Niese started and pitched well and Ruben Tejada had a couple of hits.  The Mets offense only managed four hits. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Carlos Torres took the loss, his third of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Matt Cain pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Jeremy Affeldt pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and he picked up his first win of the season.  Sergio Romo saved his 19th game of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Matt den Dekker had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and two RBI and Curtis Granderson drew a walk.  Tejada had two hits, den Dekker hit a double and Murphy hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-1 with runners in scoring position. 

Angel Pagan drew a walk, Buster Posey had three hits and two RBI and Michael Morse had a hit.  Juan Perez had a hit, Brandon Hicks had two hits and drew a walk and Brandon Crawford had a hit and two RBI.  Hicks and Perez each hit a double, Hicks hit a triple and Posey hit a homerun.  The Giants were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the fifth inning Crawford hit a sacrifice fly to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.  Murphy hit a two run homerun in the seventh to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  The Giants came right back with an RBI single by Crawford to tie the game at two.  Posey hit a two run homerun in the eighth to give the Giants a 4-2 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their series on Saturday night.
