New York Mets lose a high scoring game to the Pirates


The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 12-7.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  Lucas Duda and Travis d’Arnaud each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched five innings giving up five hits and six runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Paul Sewald pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up five hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his first game of the season, Neil Ramirez pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Gerrit Cole started for the Pirates pitching five innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Cole won his third game of the season.  Wade LeBlanc pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Juan Nicasio pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Daniel Hudson pitched an inning with two walks.  Felipe Rivero pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI, Jay Bruce had a hit and Neil Walker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Duda had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk.  d’Arnaud had two hits and drew a walk, Walker hit a triple and Duda hit two homeruns and Conforto hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Adam Frazier had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Harrison had three hits and two RBI and Gregory Polanco had a hit and drew a walk.  David Freese had an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Bell had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Andrew McCutchen had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jordy Mercer had two hits, Elias Diaz had two hits and six RBI and Jose Osuna had a hit.  Diaz and Harrison each hit a double and Bell, Diaz and Harrison each hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Freese hit into a force out and a run scored to make it 1-0 Pittsburgh.  In the second Duda hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Diaz hit a three-run double to make it 4-2 Pirates.  In the fifth Conforto hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at four.  Walker hit an RBI triple to give the Mets a 5-4 lead.  A wild pitch made it 6-4 and Duda hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 7-4.  In the sixth Bell hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 7-5.  Diaz hit a three-run homerun and it was 8-7 Pirates.  Harrison hit an RBI double to extend the Pirates lead to 9-7.  Bell had an RBI walk to push it to 10-7.  In the sixth McCutchen hit a sac fly making it 11-7 Pirates and in the eighth Harrison hit a solo homerun to make it 12-7 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night. 

New York Yankees come back falls short in Toronto


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 7-5.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen wasn’t very good either.  The Yankees offense saw Aaron Hicks get two hits and Aaron Judge and Starlin Castro each hit a two-run homerun. 

Pineda pitched five innings giving up ten hits and five runs. He walked three and struck out one and lost his third game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched an inning with two strikeouts. 

Francisco Liriano started for the Jays and he pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out five and won his third game of the season.  Danny Barnes pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk, Aaron Loup pitched to one batter and struck him out and Ryan Tepera pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Joe Smith pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his 12th save of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Judge had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Matt Holliday had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Castro had a hit and two RBI and Hicks had two hits.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Chris Carter had a hit and Hicks, Carter and Holliday each hit a double and Judge and Castro each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Sanchez and Carter each committed an error. 

Kevin Pillar had a hit, Josh Donaldson had two hits and two RBI and Jose Bautista had a hit and drew a walk.  Kendrys Morales had a hit and drew a walk, Justin Smoak had two hits and three RBI and Troy Tulowitzki had two hits.  Devon Travis had a hit and an RBI, Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and drew a walk and Luke Maile had a hit.  Tulowitzki hit a double and Donaldson hit two homeruns and Smoak hit a homerun.  The Jays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Carrera committed an error. 

In the first Donaldson hit a solo homerun giving the Jays a 1-0 lead.  Smoak hit a two-run homerun and it was 3-0.  In the third Smoak hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 4-0.   In the fourth a wild pitch made it 5-0 Jays.  In the sixth Judge hit a two-run homerun and Castro hit a two-run homerun and it was 5-4 Jays.  In the sixth Donaldson hit a solo homerun to make it 6-4.  In the seventh Holliday hit an RBI double to make it a 6-5 game and in the bottom of the inning Travis hit a sac fly to make it 7-5 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.  The series is even at one game each. 

New York Mets lose a close one to the Milwaukee Brewers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he gave up a lot of hits but was able to limit the damage.  Lucas Duda had two of the teams four hits. 

Wheeler pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up ten hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Wheeler lost his third game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Fernando Salas pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out five. 

Chase Anderson pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out seven and won his fourth game of the season.  Jacob Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Corey Knebel pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and saved his fourth game of the season. 

Neil Walker drew a walk, Duda had two hits and Curtis Granderson drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and Flores hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Duda committed an error. 

Eric Sogard had two hits, Hernan Perez had three hits and an RBI and Travis Shaw drew a walk.  Domingo Santana had two hits.  Jonathan Villar had a hit and drew a walk.  Nick Franklin had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Anderson had a hit and Perez hit a double.  The Brewers were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Franklin had an outfield assist. 

In the third Perez hit an RBI double to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Franklin had an RBI single to make it 2-0.  In the eighth Flores hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will kick off a three game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night at Citi Field.

New York Mets are slugged by the Milwaukee Brewers


The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-1.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched terrible.  The bullpen was good and the offense was led by Curtis Granderson with two hits. 

deGrom pitched four innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with five walks and six strikeouts.  deGrom lost his second game of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched three innings giving up two hits and he struck out three and Neil Ramirez pitched two innings giving up three walks and he struck out three. 

Junior Guerra pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out four and won his first game of the season.  Jared Huges pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Oliver Drake pitched an inning with a strikeout and Rob Scahill pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Jay Bruce drew two walks.  Granderson had two hits and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Rene Rivera had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a hit, R. Rivera and Conforto each hit a double and the Mets were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Eric Sogard had a hit and drew three walks, Eric Thames had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks and Jesus Aguilar had a hit and an RBI.  Travis Shaw had two hits and drew a walk, Hernan Perez had a hit and two RBI and Manny Pina had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Keon Broxton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Orlando Arcia had a hit and Shaw, Thames, Aguilar and Arcia each hit a double.  Thames and Broxton each hit a homerun.  The Brewers were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Shaw had a stolen base. 

In the first Thames hit a two-run homerun and it was 2-0 Brewers.  In the second Broxton hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Aguilar hit an RBI double making it a 4-0 game.  Perez hit a two-run single and the lead was 6-0.  Pina hit an RBI ground out and it was 7-0 and in the ninth Conforto hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-1 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of their series on Thursday afternoon.   

Yankees pound the Blue Jays in Toronto


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 12-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Gary Sanchez hit a couple of homeruns to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Sabathia won his sixth game of the season.  Chad Green pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Marco Estrada started for the Blue Jays and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Estrada lost his third game of the season.  Leonel Campos pitched three innings giving up two hits and two unearned runs with a walk and four strikeouts, J.P. Howell pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with three strikeouts and Ryan Tepera pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had two hits, Sanchez had two hits and three RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Holliday had three hits, Starlin Castro drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had four hits and six RBI, Chase Headley had two hits and two RBI and Chris Carter drew a walk.  Gardner hit a double and Hicks hit three doubles and Sanchez hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 5-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Josh Donaldson had a hit, Kendrys Morales had two hits and an RBI and Justin Smoak had two hits.  Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and an RBI, Luke Maile had a hit and Josh Donaldson hit a double.  Morales and Carrera each hit a homerun and the Jays were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Barney committed an error. 

In the first Judge hit an RBI single, Hicks hit a three-run double and it was 4-0 Yankees.  In the second Sanchez hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 5-0.  In the fourth Sanchez hit a two-run homerun and it was 7-0 Yankees.  In the seventh Hicks hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 8-0.  Headley hit an RBI single to make it 9-0.  In the seventh Morales hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 9-1 and Carrera hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 9-2.  In the ninth Hicks hit a two run double to make it 11-2 and Headley hit an RBI single to make it 12-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.   

New York Yankees lose the rubber game in Baltimore


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 10-4.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched poorly.  Starlin Castro, Aaron Judge and Rob Refsnyder each had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked two and struck out four and took his fifth loss of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him, Giovanny Gallegos pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts and Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits. 

Kevin Gausman started for the Orioles and pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked five and struck out four and won his third game of the season.  Mychal Givens pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and striking out two, Darren O’Day pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Mike Wright pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Castro had two hits, Judge had two hits and drew a walk and Chase Headley drew two walks.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Austin Romine had a hit and Refsnyder had two hits.  Hicks, Refsnyder and Judge each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

Seth Smith had three hits and drew a walk, Adam Jones had three hits and five RBI and Mark Trumbo had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Davis had two hits and three RBI, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and Caleb Joseph had a hit.  J.J. Hardy had two hits, Jones, Hardy, Schoop and Joseph each hit a double and Trumbo hit two doubles.  Jones and Davis each hit a homerun and the Orioles were 7-13 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Schoop committed an error. 

In the third Jones hit an RBI double giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Trumbo hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 3-0.  Davis hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 4-0.  In the fourth Torreyes hit into an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Jones hit a three-run homerun to make it 7-1 Baltimore.  In the fifth Hicks hit an RBI double and Holliday hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 7-3.  In the seventh Davis hit a two-run homerun to make it 9-3.  In the eighth Gardner hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 9-4.  Jones hit an RBI single in the eighth to increase the lead to 10-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and will head to Toronto for four beginning on Thursday night.

New York Mets walk-off with a win in 12 innings


The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-4 in 12 innings.  Tyler Pill started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits to lead the offense. 

Pill pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked three and struck out four.  Fernando Salas pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked wo and struck out one, Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning walking one and striking out two and Josh Edgin pitched an inning with a walk.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Josh Smoker won his first game of the season pitching three innings giving up two hits and he walked one and struck out four. 

Zach Davies pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up four hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect inning and Jacob Barnes pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Corey Knebel pitched 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and Wily Peralta pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his fourth game of the season. 

Michael Conforto had a hit and drew two walks, Jose Reyes had an RBI and drew a walk and Jay Bruce had a hit and an RBI.  Neil Walker had two hits, Lucas Duda had a hit and two RBI and Curtis Granderson had two hits.  Cabrera had three hits and an RBI, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and Salas had a hit.  T.J. Rivera had a hit, Granderson, Cabrera and Walker each hit a double and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

Keon Broxton drew a walk, Eric Thames had two hits and drew two walks and Hernan Perez had two hits.  Travis Shaw had two hits and an RBI, Domingo Santana had an RBI and drew a walk.  Jett Bandy drew a walk, Jonathan Villar drew a walk and Manny Pina had a hit.  Orlando Arcia had three hits, Eric Sogard drew two walks and Shaw hit a double.  Thames hit a triple and the Brewers were 2-15 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Villar was caught stealing. 

In the first Shaw hit an RBI double to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Cabrera hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Reyes drew an RBI walk to make it 2-1.  In the sixth Duda hit a two-run homerun to make it 4-1.  In the seventh Santana drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 4-2.  Bandy reached on a fielding error by Cabrera and it was a tie game at four.  In the 12th Bruce hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Mets a 5-4 victory.

The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well and Wilmer Flores had three hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five and won his third game of the season.  Paul Sewald pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Addison Reed saved his seventh game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits with two strikeouts. 

Matt Garza lost his second game of the season pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out four.  Rob Scahill pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter, Oliver Drake pitched an inning with a strikeout and Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect inning.

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 8-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen also pitched well.  Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday each had two homeruns to lead the offense.   

Severino pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out eight and won his fourth game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter, Adam Warren pitched to one batter and struck him out and Bryan Mitchell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs which were unearned.  He walked one and struck out one and Tyler Clippard pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout. 

Chris Tillman lost his second game of the season pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Logan Verrett pitched three innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts, Donnie Hart pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up a hit.

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night. 

New York Yankees fall short in Baltimore


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 3-2.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, the bullpen was good.  Brett Gardner had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery lost his fourth game of the season pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out three and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings with a walk and he struck out three. 

Dylan Bundy won his sixth game for the Orioles.  He pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Darren O’Day pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Brad Brach pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he saved his 10th game of the season.

In the first Trumbo hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the second Hicks hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the third Schop hit a two-run double and it was 3-1 Orioles.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 3-2 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets take rubber game in Pittsburgh


The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at PNC Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 7-2.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched well and Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey won his fourth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts.  Paul Sewald pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts and Neil Ramirez pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Tyler Glasnow pitched five innings giving up eight hits and five runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Glasnow lost his fourth game of the season.  Jhan Marinez pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with four strikeouts and Johnny Barbato pitched two innings giving up two hits.  

Granderson had three hits and an RBI, Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI and Bruce had three hits and two RBI.  Neil Walker had a hit, Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and two RBI.  Travis d’Arnaud had a hit, Harvey had a hit and Matt Reynolds had a hit.  Bruce hit two doubles and Cabrera and Granderson each hit a double.  Duda hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base. 

Jose Osuna drew a walk, Josh Harrison had two hits and Josh Bell had a hit.  Gregory Polanco had two hits and an RBI, David Freese had two hits and an RBI and Andrew McCutchen had a hit.  Francisco Cervelli drew two walks, Jordy Mercer drew a walk and John Jaso had a hit.  Freese hit a double and Polanco hit a homerun and the Pirates were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

In the second Polanco hit a solo homerun giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Cabrera hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Reyes hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  Bruce hit a two-run double and the lead was extended to 5-1.  In the sixth Granderson hit an RBI single making it a 6-1 lead.  Duda hit a solo homerun in the seventh to push the lead to 7-1.  In the eighth Freese hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets took two out of three in the series and will head home to take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the first of four on Monday afternoon.   

New York Yankees drop a close one in Baltimore


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 3-2.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he grinded for a few innings.  The Yankees bullpen was great and the offense got two hits from Brett Gardner and an Aaron Judge homerun. 

Montgomery pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five and took his fourth loss of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs with three strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three. 

Dylan Bundy started for the Orioles and he pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Bundy won his sixth game of the season, Darren O’Day pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Brad Brach picked up his tenth save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Gardner had two hits, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Judge had a hit and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk.  Gardner hit a double and Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Castro committed an error. 

Joey Rickard had a hit and drew a walk, Mark Trumbo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Welington Castillo had two hits.  Trey Mancini had a hit, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and two RBI and Caleb Joseph had a hit.  Joseph hit a double and Schoop also hit a double and the Orioles were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Mancini had an outfield assist.

New York Yankees take rubber game against the Oakland Athletics


The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-5.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees offense got two hits from Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge and Ronald Torreyes to lead the way. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up three hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked three and struck out five and won his sixth game of the season.  Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Adam Warren picked up his first save of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings. 

Andrew Triggs pitched six innings giving up six hits and six runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his fourth game of the season.  Josh Smith pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and John Axford pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and two RBI, Sanchez had two hits and an RBI and Matt Holliday drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Judge had two hits and four RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Chris Carter had an RBI and drew a walk and Torreyes had two hits and drew a walk.  Sanchez and Gardner each hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Hicks had a stolen base and he was caught stealing.  Pineda committed an error and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Jed Lowrie drew two walks, Khris Davis had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Yonder Alonso had a hit.  Ryon Healy had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Matt Joyce had a hit and drew a walk and Alonso hit a double and Davis hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Joyce and Phegley each committed an error. 

In the second Healy hit a two-run single to give the Athletics a 2-0 lead.  Hicks hit a sac fly in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Judge hit a grand slam to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead.  In the fourth Carter hit a sac fly and it was 6-2 Yankees.  The A’s cut the lead in the sixth on a fielding error and the score was 6-3.  In the seventh Sanchez hit an RBI double to push the lead to 7-3.  Davis hit a two-run homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-5 and in the bottom of the eighth Gardner hit a two-run double to make it 9-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will head to Baltimore to begin a three game series on Monday afternoon.
