The New York Yankees squeak by the Chicago White Sox with a well pitched game



The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and pitched well and the big three in the bullpen close it out.  Rob Refsnyder and Jacoby Ellsbury each had two hits. 

Warren pitched six innings giving up one run on three hits.  He walked three and struck out four.  Warren won his seventh game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning and Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and he saved his 36th game of the season. 

John Danks pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Danks lost his 14th game of the season.  Dan Jennings pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Jake Petricka pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and Zach Duke pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out one. 

Ellsbury had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran drew a walk, Chris Young drew two walks and Brett Gardner drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Refsnyder had two hits and Headley and Rodriguez each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Adam Eaton had a hit and drew a walk, Jose Abreu had a hit and an RBI and Trayce Thompson had a hit.  Mike Olt drew a walk, Carlos Sanchez drew a walk and the White Sox were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Eaton had a stolen base. 

In the first the White Sox got on the board with a Abreu RBI single.  The Yankees came back with two in the sixth.  Headley hit an RBI double to tie the game at one and Rodriguez hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that would hold up as the final score.  The Yankees and White Sox will play the rubber game of the four game series on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2 Chicago.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The Yankees offense put runners on base but grounded into four double plays and only had a Didi Gregorius two run single. 

Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs on six hits.  He walked two and struck out three and took his 10th loss of the season.  Andrew Bailey pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two, Nick Rumbelow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and gave up a hit.  Chris Martin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk. 

Carlos Rodon won his ninth game of the season pitching six innings giving up five hits and two runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  Matt Albers pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Zach Duke pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he earned his 32nd save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit and drew two walks, Chris Young had a hit and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Rob Refsnyder had a hit and drew a walk, Gregorius had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Refsnyder hit a double and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Headley committed an error and Young had an outfield assist.

In the second Ramirez hit an RBI double to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the third Garcia hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a two run single to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Olt hit a solo homerun and Beckham hit a solo homerun giving the White Sox a 4-2 lead.  In the ninth Eaton hit an RBI single to make it 5-2 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees begin final homestand with a victory over the Chicago White Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen did their job and Carlos Beltran hit a three run homerun. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up one run on eight hits.  He walked none and struck out six and won his 12th game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk, Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks and he struck out two and Andrew Miller saved his 35th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out two batters. 

Chris Sale lost his 11th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Nate Jones pitched to one batter and struck him out, Zach Duke pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one. 

Chase Headley had two hits, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Beltran had two hits and three RBI.  Chris Young had a hit, John Ryan Murphy had a hit and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.  Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

ADam Eaton had three hits and drew a walk, Jose Abreu had a hit and Melky Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk.  Trayce Thompson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Adam LaRoche had a hit and Alexei Ramirez had two hits.  Tyler Flowers had two hits, Thompson hit a homerun and the White Sox were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Ramirez was caught stealing. 

In the third Beltran hit a three run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth Thompson hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Thompson drew an RBI walk to make it 3-2 which was the final score.  The Yankees will play game two of four tomorrow night against the White Sox.   

The New York Mets lose second straight home series this time to the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-3 Braves.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and he pitched pretty well, Jeurys Familia didn't pitch so well out of the bullpen.  Travis d'Arnaud had two hits and Ruben Tejada had three hits. 

Colon pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hit snad three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a walk, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Familia took his second loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Williams Perez pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Matt Marksberry pitched without recording an out.  He gave up a hit and a run, Brandon Cunniff pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and struck out two and Edwin Jackson won his fourth game of the season.  Jackson struck out the only batter that he faced and Arodys Vizcaino saved his seventh game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit. 

David Wright had a hit and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Lucas Duda had a hit and drew two walks, d'Arnaud had two hits and Tejada had three hits and an RBI.  Juan Uribe had a hit, Duda hit a double and Cespedes hit a triple.  Murphy hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Young Jr. had a stolen base. 

Nick Markakis had a hit and drew a walk, A.J. Pierzynski had a hit and Andrelton Simmons had a hit.  Jace Peterson had a hit, Cameron Maybin had two hits and Michael Bourn had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Freddie Freeman had two hits and five RBI, Freeman hit a double and a homerun.  The Braves were 5-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Murphy hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Tejada hit an RBI single to extend their lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Bourn hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  Fremman hit a two run double and it was 3-2 Braves.  Wright hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at three.  In the ninth Freeman hit a three run homerun to make it 6-3 Braves and that would be the final score.  The Mets lost two out of three and had a 3-6 homestand.  They will head to Cincinnati to play a four game series beginning on Thursday night.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New  York and the final score was 6-2.  Logan Verrett started for the Mets and didn't pitch great and Tyler Clippard didn't pitch great either.  David Wright and Daniel Murphy each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Verrett pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his second game of the season.  Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings giving up two hits and struck out three, Hansel Robles pitched an inning and struck out one and Clippard pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and drew a walk. 

Matt Wisler won his sixth game of the season pitching seven innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Peter Moylan gave up a hit to the only batter that he faced, Matt Marksberry pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and Edwin Jackson pitched 2/3 of an inning.  Arodys Vizcaino pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

In the first Wright hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Peterson hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Olivera hit a three run homerun to make it 4-1 Braves in the fifth.  In the eighth Cuddyer hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the ninth Garcia hit a two run homerun to make it a 6-2 game.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday night. 

The New York Yankees watch their AL East hopes fade as they lose in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 4-0 Jays.  Ivan Nova started and pitched very well, the bullpen didn't pitch well and the offense didn't do too much at all. 

Nova pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up a run on four hits.  He walked two and struck out six and lost his ninth game of the season.  James Pazos gave up a hit to the only batter he faced, Caleb Cotham pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and drew a walk and Andrew Bailey pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Bryan Mitchell pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Marcus Stroman won his third game of the season pitching seven innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  Brett Cecil pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Roberto Osuna pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Alex Rodriguez had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit and Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Greg Bird had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Dustin Ackley had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Ackley and Rodriguez each hit a double and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gregorius committed an error. 

Josh Donaldson had three hits, Edward Encarnacion had a hit and drew a walk and Russell Martin had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Ryan Goins had a hit and drew a walk.  Kevin Pillar had a hit and an RBI, Darwin Barney had a hit and Ezequiel Carrera drew a walk.  Encarnacion and Donaldson each hit a double and Martin hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Pillar and Encarnacion each had a stolen base. 

In the sixth Pillar hit an RBI single to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Martin hit a three run homerun to give them a 4-0 lead and that would be the final score.  The Yankees are now 3 1/2 games back in the AL East with 11 games to go.  They are a long shot now but it ain't over till it's over.  They do have a substantial lead for the first wild card and need to focus on clinching that this week at home.  They will begin a four game series with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.

The New York Yankees keep their hopes alive with win over the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 6-4 in ten innings.  Luis Severino started and pitched very well, Andrew Miller blew a save but got the win.  Greg Bird hit a big three run homerun and Carlos Beltran also had a big homerun. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up two runs on three hits.  He walked three and struck out three.  Justin Wilson pitched a perfect inning, Dellin Betances gave up a hit and two walks and he struck out two in one inning of work and Miller pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Miller picked up his third win of the season. 

Marco Estrada pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Aaron Loup pitched to one batter and gave up a hit, Liam Hendricks pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts and Drew Hutchison pitched giving up a hit and a walk without recording an out.  Ryan Tepera pitched an inning giving up a walk, Mark Lowe lost his third game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned and Steve Delabar pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and drew a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI, Beltran had two hits and two RBI and Bird had two hits and three RBI.  Dustin Ackley drew a walk, Chris Young drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had three hits.  Ellsbury hit two doubles, Bird and Gregorius each hit a double.  Beltran and Bird each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Beltran had an outfield assist. 

Ben Revere had a hit, Russell Martin drew a walk and Josh Donaldson drew two walks.  Jose Bautista drew two walks, Edward Encarnacion had a hit and an RBI and Justin Smoak had a hit and an RBI.  Dioner Navarro had a hit and an RBI, Kevin Pillar had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Hague drew a walk, Pillar hit a double and a homerun.  Navarro and Encarnacion each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Pillar had two stolen bases, Navarro committed an error and Bautista had two outfield assists. 

In the first McCann hit an RBI single and Beltran hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 Yankees.  In the third Pillar hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fourth Smoak hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the eighth Beltran hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the ninth Navarro hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the tenth Bird hit a three run homerun to give the Yankees a 6-3 lead and in the bottom of the tenth Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to make it 6-4 which would be the final score.  The two teams have split the first two games of three and will play the rubber game on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets shoutout the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well and Daniel Murphy had two hits and Yoenis Cespedes had three hits to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He picked up his ninth win of the season.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning, Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Shelby Miller lost his 16th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and two runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Andrew McKirahan pitched without recording an out and he gave up three hits and two runs, Brandon Cunniff pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Daniel Winkler pitched 2/3 of an inning walking one and striking out two.  Danny Burawa pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew two walks, Murphy had two hits and two RBI and Cespedes had three hits.   Lucas Duda drew two walks, Kelly Johnson had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Ruben Tejada drew a walk and Niese drew a walk.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit, Cespedes hit two doubles and Murphy hit a double.  Conforto hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Flores was caught stealing and committed an error. 

Michael Bourn had a hit, Adonis Garcia had a hit and drew a walk and A.J. Pierzynski had two hits.  Miller drew a walk, Pedro Ciriaco had a hit and the Braves were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Cameron Maybin committed an error. 

In the first d'Arnaud grounded into a double play and a run scored giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Conforto hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 Mets.  Murphy hit a two run double in the seventh and it was 4-0 which would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 4-2 Blue Jays.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and struggled early and didn't last deep into the game.  The Yankees bullpen was good and Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Warren pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  James Pazos pitched to two batters retiring them both, Caleb Cotham pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walking two.  Branden Pinder pitched giving up a hit and a run and two walks without recording an out and Andrew Bailey pitched two innings giving up a hit. 

David Price earned his 17th win of the season pitching seven innings and giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Aaron Sanchez didn't record an out and gave up a hit and a run with a walk, Brett Cecil pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out the side and Roberto Osuna pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and he earned his 17th save of the season.

In the first the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead.  Bautista hit an RBI single, Encarnacion hit an RBI groundout and Smoak hit an RBI double.  In the seventh Martin hit a sac fly to make it a 4-0 game.  In the eighth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1 and Bird hit a solo homerun in the ninth to cut it to 4-2 but that would be the final score.

The New York Yankees take the Subway Series



The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Sunday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 11-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched very well and Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched great but was on an innings limit of five innings.  The Yankees bullpen was good and the Mets not so good, Jacoby Ellsbury led the Yankees offense with three hits and Michael Cuddyer had two hits for the Mets. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up one run on five hits and he walked three and struck out seven.  Sabathia won his fifth game of the season and first since July.  Nick Rumbelow pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Chris Capuano pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Nick Goody pitched a perfect inning. 

Harvey pitched five innings giving up a hit and no runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and five runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two and took the loss.  Sean Gilmartin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Eric O'Flaherty pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Eric Goeddel pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked one.  Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Tim Stauffer pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.

In the first Wright hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Beltran hit a two run double  and Ackley hit a three run homerun to make it 5-1 Yankees.  In the seventh Headley drew an RBI walk to push the lead to 6-1.  In the eighth it became 8-1 on an Ellsbury RBI single and McCann RBI single.  Bird hit a three run homerun to push the lead to 11-1 in the eighth.  In the eighth Murphy  hit an RBI single to make it 11-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will head to Toronto to take on the first place Blue Jays in a showdown.  The Yankees are now two out of first in the loss column and the Mets are six games up in the NL East.  The Mets will remain home to take on the Atlanta Braves.
