The New York Yankees lose late to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  It was a great pitching duel as Masahiro Tanaka and Jon Lester did battle.  They both pitched great but Tanaka gave up a late solo homerun to lose the game.  The Yankees offense didn't do much against Lester at all. 

Tanaka pitched a complete game giving up two runs on seven hits.  He walked one and struck out eight, he lost his third game of the season and second in a row. 

Lester pitched eight innings giving up one run on five hits and the one run was unearned.  He walked two and struck out six and earned his ninth win of the season.  Koji Uehara saved his 17th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits.  Brian Roberts had a hit and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing and Ellsbury had an outfield assist. 

Brock Holt had a hit, Dustin Pedroia had three hits and David Ortiz had a hit.  Mike Napoli had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, David Ross had a hit and an RBI and Ortiz and Holt each hit a double.  Ross and Napoli each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Drew committed an error. 

In the third Ross hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees came right back and tied the game on a Jeter RBI groundout in the bottom of the third.  In the ninth Napoli hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead and that was the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two games of the series and the rubber game will be played on Sunday night.   

The New York Yankees use the long ball to defeat the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-0.  Vidal Nuno started and pitched well and Brian McCann, Kelly Johnson and Brett Gardner each hit a homerun. 

Nuno pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings.  He gave up two hits and two walks and struck out five to earn his second win of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out two, Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Matt Thornton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brandon Workman pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his first game of the season.  Craig Breslow pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 

Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Derek Jeter had two hits and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had two hits and an RBI, McCann had two hits and two RBI and Johnson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Ellsbury hit a double and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring positon and left five men on base. 

Brock Holt had a hit and drew a walk, David Ortiz drew a walk and Mike Napoli drew a walk.  Jonny Gomes had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Holt and Drew each hit a double.  The Red Sox were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

The Yankees scored a run in the first inning on a Teixeira sacrifice fly.  In the fourth they hit back-to-back homeruns to make it 4-0.  Johnson hit a two run  homerun and Gardner a solo homerun.  The Yankees made it 6-0 in the eighth on a McCann two run homerun. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night.  Masahiro Tanaka will face off against Jon Lester in a premier pitching matchup.

The New York Mets start off a long road trip with a loss in Pittsburgh



The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-2 Pittsburgh.  Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the Mets and didn't pitch well.  The Mets offense produced nine hits but no player had more than a hit. 

Matsuzaka pitched six innings giving up five hits and five runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  Matsuzaka lost his second game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk, Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Vic Black pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Vance Worley won his second game of the season pitching seven innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out four.  Tony Watson pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Mark Melancon pitched a perfect inning to save his 14th game of the season. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had a hit and an RBI.  Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Bobby Abreu had a hit and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Matsuzaka had a hit.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, Murphy and Wright each hit a double.  Duda hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Gregory Polanco had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk, Andrew McCutchen had a hit and drew a walk and Ike Davis drew two walks.  Pedro Alvarez had three hits, Jordy Mercer drew a walk and Worley had a hit.  Snider had a hit, McCutchen hit a double and Polanco hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Polanco had a stolen base, Davis was caught stealing and Harrison had an outfield assist. 

In the third Polanco hit an RBI groundout to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  Duda hit a solo homerun to tie the game in the fourth.  In the bottom of the fourth Davis was picked off but got caught in a run down long enough that a run scored giving the Pirates a 2-1 lead.  Polanco hit a three run homerun in the fifth to give the Pirates a 5-1 lead.  The Mets would add another run in the eighth on a Wright RBI double.  The final score was 5-2 and the two teams will play game two of their four game series on Friday night. 

The New York Mets fight back but lose to the Oakland A's



The New York Mets were defeated by the Oakland A's on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Queens, New York and the final score was 8-5 A's.  Zach Wheeler started and didn't pitch well at all, the bullpen was good.  Curtis Granderson had three hits, Campbell and Tejada each had two hits. 

Wheeler had the shortest outing of his short career.  Wheeler pitched two innings giving up six hits and six runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Dana Eveland pitched three innings giving up a hit, a run, a walk and three strikeouts, Gonzalez Germen pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning striking out one.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Brad Mills won his first game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and three runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out four.  Dan Otero pitched to two batters and retired them both, Luke Gregorson pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs striking out one and Sean Doolittle saved his 11th game of the season with a perfect inning.  He struck out the side

David Wright had a hit, Campbell had two hits and Granderson had three hits.  Chris Young had a hit and two RBI, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and Ruben Tejada had two hits.   Lucas Duda had a hit and three RBI, Granderson hit a double, Duda and C. Young hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Coco Crisp had three hits and two RBI, John Jaso had two hits and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Brandon Moss had a hit and two RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk and Josh Reddick had a hit and drew a walk.  Alberto Callaspo had two hits, Cespedes hit a double and Moss and Crisp each hit a homerun and the A's were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jaso had a stolen base. 

In the first Cespedes hit a two run homerun giving the A's a 2-0 lead.  In the second Crisp hit an RBI single and Cespedes hit a three run double to give the A's a 6-0 lead.  Crisp hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the A's a 7-0 lead.  Mills grounded into a double play in the sixth and another run scored to push the A's lead to 8-0.  Duda hit a three run homerun in the seventh to make it a 8-3 game.  C. Young hit a two run homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-5.  That would be the final score and the two teams split the brief two game series.  The Mets will begin a four game series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates on Thursday night. 

The New York Mets hand the Oakland A's a big loss



The New York Mets defeated the Oakland A's on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Queens, New York and the final score was 10-1.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched great and Travis d'Arnaud and Curtis Granderson each had three RBI.  There was plenty of offense in this game from the Mets. 

Colon pitched eight innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Colon won his eighth game of the season and Vic Black pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Scott Kazmir lost his third game of the season pitching three innings and giving up eight hits and seven runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Jim Johnson pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Jeff Francis pitched three innings giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts. 

Eric Young Jr. had two hits, Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI and David Wright had a hit and an RBI.  Eric Campbell had a hit, Granderson had a hit and three RBI and Chris Young had two hits and two RBI and drew a walk.  d'Arnaud had a hit and three RBI, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Colon had a hit.  Campbell and Wright each hit a double, Granderson and d'Arnaud each hit a homerun and C. Young hit two homeruns.  The Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Young Jr. was caught stealing. 

Coco Crisp had a hit, Brandon Moss had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI.  Josh Reddick drew a walk and Cespedes hit a double.  The A's were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Kazmir had a pickoff.

In the first Cespedes hit an RBI double to give the A's a 1-0 lead.  The Mets scored three in the second and four in the third to take a 7-1 lead.  Granderson hit a two run homerun and C. Young hit a solo homerun and they were back-to-back.  Granderson had an RBI groundout and d'Arnaud hit a three run homerun.  In the fifth C. Young hit a solo homerun, his second of the game to extend the Mets lead to 8-1.  In the sixth the Mets scored two more runs to complete the scoring and hold on to win 10-1. 

The two teams will play the second and final game of the brief series on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees avoid the sweep in Toronto



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 5-3.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched pretty well, the bullpen was good.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Mark Teixeira had three RBI. 

Kuroda pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Kuroda won his fifth game of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Matt Thornton retired the only batter that he faced and Adam Warren pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  David Robertson saved his 18th game of the season pitching 1 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts. 

Drew Hutchison pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Hutchison lost his sixth game of the season.  Rasmussen walked two guys and gave up a run without recording an out, Sergio Santos pitched an inning walking one and striking out one and Todd Redmond pitched two innings giving up two hits and striking out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and Ellsbury had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Teixeira had a hit and three RBI, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson had a hit and drew a walk, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and an RBI and Gardner, Cervelli and Beltran each hit a double.  Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Johnson and Ellsbury were each caught stealing. 

Jose Reyes had three hits and an RBI, Melky Cabrera had two hits and two RBI and Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and drew a walk.  Dioner Navarro had a hit, Juan Francisco had a hit and Munenori Kawasaki had two hits and drew a walk.  Reyes hit a double and hit a homerun and the Jays were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gose and Reyes each had a stolen base. 

In the first Reyes hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cervelli hit an RBI double and Ellsbury an RBI single.  The Yankees had a 2-1 lead and then Teixeira hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  Cabrera hit a two run single in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-3.  The Yankees added a run in the seventh on a Teixeira sacrifice fly.  The final score of the game was 5-3 Yankees.  The Yankees avoided a three game sweep with the win and will have an off day on Thursday.  They will begin a three game series at home against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. 

The New York Yankees rally back to eventually lose in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 7-6.  David Phelps started and didn't pitch that well.  The Yankees offense showed up though and rallied from six down. 

Phelps pitched  five innings giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked one and struck out seven, Matt Thornton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Adam Warren suffered his fourth loss of the season.  He gave up a hit and an unearned run without recording an out. 

Mark Buehrle pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with three strikeouts.  Dustin McGowan gave up two hits and two unearned runs without recording an out and gave up a walk, Aaron Loup pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Kenley Janssen won his second game pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Janssen won his second game of the season. 

Brett Gardner had two hits, Derek Jeter had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI.  Alfonso Soriano had a hit, Brian McCann had two hits and Brian Roberts had two hits and two RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit, Roberts, McCann, Gardner each hit a double and Jeter and Roberts each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Solarte committed an error. 

Jose Reyes had two hits, Adam Lind had a hit and drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and drew a walk.  Colby Rasmus had a hit and two RBI, Dioner Navarro had three hits and three RBI and Tolleson drew a walk.  Kawasaki had a hit, Reyes hit a double and Navarro hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes committed two errors and Cabrera had an error. 

In the fourth Navarro hit a three run homerun to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.  In the fifth Rasmus  hit a three run single to give the Jays a 6-0 lead.  Jeter hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-1 game in the sixth.  Roberts hit a two run homerun in the seventh, Ellsbury hit an RBI single and Teixeira reached on an error by Reyes and two runs scored to tie the game at six.  In the ninth Cabrera had a sac bunt and Solarte committed a throwing error to allow the running win to score.  The final was 7-6 Blue Jays.  The two teams will play game three of their three game set on Wednesday night and the Yankees will try and avoid the sweep.

The New York Yankees are roughed up in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 8-3.  Chase Whitley made the start and did not pitch well.  The bullpen was good and the offense didn't do much until the ninth inning. 

Whitley pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up 11 hits and eight runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Whitley lost his first game of the season.  David Huff pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with three strikeouts and Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side. 

Marcus Stroman pitched eight innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Stroman earned his fourth win of the season.  Chad Jenkins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and Aaron Loup threw one pitch and retired the only batter that he faced. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Francisco Cervelli drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI, Yangervis Solarte had a hit and an RBI and Kelly Johnson had a hit and an RBI.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Brendan Ryan had a hit.  Kelly Johnson hit a double and Mark Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.   

Jose Reyes had an RBI and drew a walk, Melky Cabrera had two hits and an RBI and Adam Lind had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk.  Edwin Encarnacion had three hits and drew a walk, Colby Rasmus drew a walk and Dioner Navarro had two hits and two RBI.  Juan Francisco had a hit, Munenori Kawasaki had a hit and Anthony Gose had two hits and drew a walk.  Cabrera and Navarro each hit a double, Lind hit a  homerun and the Blue Jays were 6-16 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gose had a stolen base. 

The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Lind RBI single.  In the second they scored six runs to take a 7-0 lead and never look back. Reyes grounded into a force out to score a run, Cabrera hit an RBI single and Lind hit a three run homerun.  Navarro hit an RBI double and in the fourth Teixeira hit a solo homerun to make it 7-1 Blue Jays.  The Jays would score their final run of the game in the fourth on a Navarro RBI single.  In the ninth Solarte hit an RBI single and Johnson an RBI double to make it 8-3 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees are now a game behind the Blue Jays in the loss column and 2 1/2 overall in the AL East.  They will play game two out of three on Tuesday night. 

The New York Mets take the series from the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was  11-5.  Jon Niese started and pitched pretty well, Curtis Granderson and Lucas Duda each had three hits. 

Niese pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Niese won his fourth game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Anthony DeSclafani lost his second game of the season pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up seven hits and seven runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Jacob Turner pitched three innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Bryan Morris pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and striking out two and A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect inning. 

Granderson had three hits and a walk, Daniel Murphy had two hits and three RBI and David Wright had two hits and an RBI.  Duda had three hits and drew a walk, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had two hits and an RBI and Ruben Tejada had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Anthony Recker had two hits and two RBI, Niese had an RBI and Eric Young Jr. had a hit and two RBI.  Nieuwenhuis hit two doubles, Wright, Recker and Granderson each hit a double.  Murphy hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Reed Johnson had a hit and an RBI, Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and an RBI and Casey McGehee drew a walk.  Marcell Ozuna had two hits and an RBI, Jeff Baker drew a walk and Garrett Jones drew a walk.  Derek Dietrich had a hit, Jeff Mathis had a hit and Justin Bour had a hit and two RBI.  Mathis, Johnson, Dietrich and Bour each hit a double.  The Marlins were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the second Recker hit a sacrifice fly and Niese had a sac bunt which scored a run and gave the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the third Wright had a sacrifice fly and Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI double to extend the Mets lead to 4-0.  Murphy hit a three run homerun in the fourth to give the Mets a 7-0 lead.  The Marlins got on the board in the sixth inning.  Johnson hit an RBI double, Stanton hit an RBI single and Ozuna hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the seventh Tejada hit an RBI single, Recker hit an RBI double and Young Jr. hit a two run single to make it a 11-3 game.  Bour hit a two run double in the ninth to cut the lead to 11-5 and that would be the final score in the Mets favor. 

The Mets took three out of four games in the series and will have a day off on Monday.

The New York Yankees four game win streak comes to an end



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Vidal Nuno started and didn't pitch well again.  Jose Ramirez pitched well in relief and Brian Roberts had a couple of hits. 

Nuno pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with four earned.  He walked two and struck out four and lost his fourth game of the season.  Ramirez pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts. 

Bud Norris pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts and earned his seventh win of the season.  Webb pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Brian Matusz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and struck out one and Tommy Hunter pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit.

Steve Pearce had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Adam Jones had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Nelson Cruz had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Davis had a hit, J.J. Hardy had two hits and an RBI and Jonathan Schoop had a hit.  Davis hit a double, Jones, Cruz, Pearce and Hardy each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Jones hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Cruz hit a two run homerun to make it 3-0 Orioles.  In the fourth Teixeira hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  Pearce hit a two run homerun to push the lead to 5-1 Orioles and they scored another run in the eighth on a Hardy solo homerun.  The final score was 6-1 Orioles and the rubber game of the three game series will be on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will try and win the series and make it a 5-1 homestand before they head to Toronto on Monday night to start a three game series.  It is also Old Timers Day at Yankee Stadium and Goose Gossage gets a plaque in Monument Park.   

The New York Yankees win fourth in a row with walk-off win over Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched well, the offense struggled early with runners in scoring position.  Carlos Beltran was the hero with the walk off three run homerun. 

Kuroda pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Matt Thornton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Dellin Betances retired the only batter that he faced.  David Huff earned his second win of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and an unearned run with two strikeouts. 

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with six walks and three strikeouts.  T.J. McFarland pitched two perfect innings, Darren O'Day pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Zach Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout.  He blew the save his second of the season and lost his first game of the season.   

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Jeter drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI and Beltran had two hits and three RBI.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Alfonso Soriano had a hit and Brian Roberts had two hits.  Yangervis Solarte drew two walks, Teixeira and Beltran each hit a double and Beltran hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Ellsbury, Roberts and Gardner each had a stolen base and Suzuki was caught stealing.  Jeter and Solarte each committed an error. 

Nick Markakis had a hit and drew a walk, Steve Pearce had two hits and two RBI, Adam Jones had a hit and an RBI.  Chris Davis had a hit, Nelson Cruz had a hit and drew a walk and J.J. Hardy had a hit.  Manny Machado had a hit, Hundley had a hit which was a double and Pearce hit a double.  The Orioles were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Jones had an outfield assist. 

The Yankees jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Teixeira RBI double in the first.  In the sixth Pearce hit an RBI double and Jones hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  Pearce hit an RBI single in the ninth to give the Orioles a 3-1 lead.  The Yankees rallied in the bottom of the ninth and won the game 5-3.  McCann hit an RBI single and Beltran hit the walk-off three run homerun.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.
