New York Yankees lose a sloppy game in PittsburghNe


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.  The game took place at PNC Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch very well, he didn’t have any of his pitches but he grinded it out.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Starlin Castro two to lead the offense. 

Sabathia lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out three.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two unearned runs and he walked one with three strikeouts, Tommy Layne gave up a walk and Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a hit and struck out one.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Tyler Glasnow pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five.  Juan Nicasio won his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings and striking out two, Felipe Rivero pitched a perfect inning and Daniel Hudson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Tony Watson picked up his fifth save of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and Castro had two hits.  Ellsbury had three hits and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Austin Romine had a hit.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Headley hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Hicks had a stolen base.  Castro committed an error. 

Jordy Mercer had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Harrison had two hits and Andrew McCutchen had a hit.  Gregory Polanco drew two walks, David Freese had two hits and two RBI and Jose Osuna had a hit and drew a walk.  Josh Bell had a hit and two RBI, Osuna hit a triple and Mercer and Bell each hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Osuna, Harrison and Freese each committed an error. 

In the first Mercer hit a solo homerun and Freese hit an RBI single to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.  In the second Bell hit a two-run homerun to push the Pirates lead to 4-0.  Headley hit an RBI double in the third aided by an error to make it 4-1.  In the fifth Bird reached on a fielding error and two runs scored to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the seventh McCutchen reached on a fielding error and a run scored to make it 5-3 and then Freese had an RBI single to make it 6-3 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon and then finish their series on Sunday afternoon. 

New York Mets are defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-4.   Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched ok.  Asdrubal Cabrera and Michael Conforto each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched seven innings giving up five runs but only three were earned.  He gave up seven hits and he walked none and struck out ten.  Syndergaard lost his first game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched giving up three hits and a run without recording an out, Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning walking two and striking out two. 

Aaron Nola pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Joely Rodriguez pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts, Joaquin Benoit pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and Hector Neris pitched a perfect inning and picked up his first save of the season. 

Cabrera had two hits, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk and Jay Bruce drew a walk.  Neil Walker had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Conforto had two hits and Jose Reyes had a hit.  Syndergaard drew a walk, Rene Rivera had a hit and an RBI and Walker hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and Bruce, Cabrera and Lagares each committed an error. 

Cesar Hernandez drew a walk, Daniel Nava had a hit and Maikel Franco had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Aaron Altherr had two hits and an RBI, Tommy Joseph had three hits and an RBI and Freddy Galvis had a hit.  Andrew Knapp had a hit and an RBI, Joseph, Knapp and Franco each hit a double and Franco hit a homerun.  Altherr and Herrera each had a stolen base.  Altherr had an outfield assist. 

In the second Joseph hit an RBI double to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  Galvis hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0 and Knapp hit an RBI double to make it 3-0 Phillies.  In the second Rivera hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the third Franco hit an RBI double to increase the lead to 4-1 and Altherr hit an RBI groundout and it was 5-1 Phillies.  In the third Walker hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 5-4.  Franco hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 6-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play on Friday night and then Saturday late afternoon.

New York Yankees get back to their winning ways


The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Chase Headley, Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks and Starlin Castro each hit a homerun to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Bryan Mitchell pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Tommy Layne pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one. 

Dylan Covey lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up ten hits and eight runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Zach Putnam pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Tommy Kahnle pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and Michael Ynoa pitched giving up a hit and a run with a walk and didn’t record an out.  Dan Jennings pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Headley had a hit and two RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit and drew a walk.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Castro had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Hicks had a hit and an RBI.  Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Greg Bird had a hit and Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an RBI and Gardner and Bird each hit a double.  The Yankees were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Tim Anderson had a hit, Melky Cabrera had a hit and Jose Abreu had three hits and an RBI.  Avisail Garcia drew two walks, Yolmer Sanchez had a hit and Abreu hit two doubles.  Anderson and Sanchez also each hit a double.  The White Sox were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Garcia committed an error. 

In the first Headley hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Romine hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  Torreyes hit an RBI ground out to make it a 4-0 game.  In the fourth Abreu hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Castro hit a three-run homerun to make it a 7-1 game and Judge hit a solo homerun extending the lead to 8-1.  In the eighth Hicks hit a solo homerun and the score was 9-1 which was the final score. 

The Yankees finished their home stand at 8-1 and will have off on Thursday.  They will begin a three game set in Pittsburgh on Friday  night. 

New York Mets lose fourth in a row as they fall to the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good and bad.  Rafael Montero did not pitch well.  The offense only managed four hits. 

Wheeler pitched five innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout, Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Fernando Salas pitched an inning giving up an unearned run and a walk.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Montero lost his second game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  Sean Gilmartin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Zach Eflin pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Joely Rodriguez pitched a perfect inning, Edubray Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three and Hector Neris pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Luis Garcia won his first game of the season pitching an inning and walking one and Joaquin Benoit pitched an inning with a walk. 

Michael Conforto drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk.  Jay Bruce had a hit and an RBI, Lucas Duda drew two walks and Jose Reyes had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Reyes hit a double and the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Walker, Reyes and Lagares each committed an error. 

Cesar Hernandez had two hits, Daniel Nava had a hit and two RBI and Odubel Herrera had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Maikel Franco drew a walk, Michael Saunders had two hits and Tommy Joseph had a hit and drew a walk.  Cameron Rupp had an RBI and drew a walk, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Andres Blanco had a hit and an RBI.  Aaron Altherr had a hit and an RBI, Blanco hit a double and Herrera hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Hernandez had a stolen base. 

In the first Herrera hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Burce hit an RBI single and a wild pitch scored another run to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  IN the eighth Blanco hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.  In the tenth Rupp hit a sac fly and Altherr hit an RBI single giving the Phillies a 4-2 lead and Nava hit a two-run single to push the lead to 6-2 and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees eight game win streak is snapped in loss to the Chicago White Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The offense couldn’t do much of anything. 

Severino pitched eight innings and gave up three hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out ten.  Severino lost his first game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Miguel Gonzalez won his second game of the season pitching 8 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.  David Robertson saved his fourth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Austin Romine had a hit, Chase Headley had a pinch hit and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Pete Kozma committed a very costly error turning an easy double play into a jam which led to a three-run homerun that put the game out of reach. 

Tim Anderson had a hit, Avisail Garcia had a hit and three RBI and Leury Garcia had a hit and an RBI.  L. Garcia and A. Garcia each hit a homerun and the White Sox were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left none on base.  Anderson committed an error. 

In the third L. Garcia hit a solo homerun giving the White Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh A. Garcia hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  In the ninth Castro drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 4-1 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees eight game win streak was snapped and this was their first home loss of the season.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night.  Masahiro Tanaka will make the start for the Yankees.

New York Yankees win eighth straight as they defeat the Chicago White Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-4.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and pitched well.  Starlin Castro had three hits and Aaron Judge and Matt Holliday each hit a homerun. 

Montgomery pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season and his career.  Adam Warren pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman saved his fourth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Derek Holland pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and seven runs with six of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out four and lost his second game of the season.  Anthony Swarzak pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Michael Ynoa pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Holliday had a hit and three RBI and Castro had three hits.  Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits and three RBI and Austin Romine drew a walk.  Pete Kozma had a hit, Castro hit two doubles and Headley hit a double.  Holliday and Judge each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Romine had a passed ball. 

Tyler Saladino had a hit and drew two walks, Tim Anderson had a hit and Melky Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk.  Avisail Garcia had a hit, Matt Davidson had a hit and Yolmer Sanchez had three hits and three RBI.  Kevan Smith had a hit and an RBI, Leury Garcia had a hit and Smith hit a double and Sanchez hit a homerun.  The White Sox were 2-7 with runners in scoring position an dleft six men on base.  Anderson and Cabrera each committed an error. 

In the third Holliday hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  Headley hit an RBI double and Judge hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the fifth Judge hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 7-0.  In the seventh Sanchez hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-3 and in the ninth Smith hit an RBI double to make it a 7-4 game and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won eight straight games and are 7-0 at home to start the season for the first time since 1998.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night, Luis Severino will get the start for the Yankees opposite Miguel Gonzalez for the White Sox. 

New York Mets lose third straight game to the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 4-2.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets offense only managed five hits. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning with a strikeout, Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and Addison Reed lost his first game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Dan Straily pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up no hits or runs with five walks and five strikeouts.  Jarlin Garcia pitched to two batters and he struck one out, Kyle Barraclough pitched a perfect inning and Brad Ziegler pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one.  Davis Phelps pitched an inning giving up three hits and wo runs with one of them being earned.  He struck out two and he won his second game of the season and blew his third save of the season. 

Neil Walker had a hit and drew three walks, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit.  Jose Reyes drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and two RBI.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Harvey committed an error and Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

Dee Gordon had three hits, J.T. Realmuto had two hits and Christian Yelich had a hit and an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Justin Bour drew a walk and Marcell Ozuna had three hits and an RBI.  Miguel Rojas had a hit, J.T. Riddle had a hit and two RBI and Ozuna and Rojas hit a double.  Riddle hit a homerun and the Marlins were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Stanton committed an error. 

In the first Yelich hit an RBI ground out to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Ozuna hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the ninth Cabrera hit a two-run single to tie the game at two and Riddle hit a two-run walk-off homerun to give the Marlins the victory. 

The Mets after winning a 16 inning game have lost three straight to the Marlins.  The Mets will be off on Monday and then begin a three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies at home.   

New York Yankees defeat the St. Louis Cardinals to sweep the series


The New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-3.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Greg Bird led the offense with three hits. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Pineda won his second game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Bryan Mitchell pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Adam Wainright started for the Cardinals and pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out four and lost his third game of the season.  Matt Bowman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one, Kevin Siegrist pitched an inning walking two and Miguel Socolovich pitched giving up three hits and five runs with two walks.  Brett Cecil pitched a perfect inning. 

Aaron Hicks had two hits, two RBI and a walk, Starlin Castro had two hits and Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk.  Chase Headley had two hits and drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Bird had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Austin Romine had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and two RBI and Bird, Romine and Torreyes each hit a double and Judge hit a triple.  Bird and Hicks each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Hicks and Ellsbury were caught stealing and Ellsbury was picked off.  Torreyes committed an error. 

Dexter Fowler had a hit, Matt Carpenter had a hit and drew a walk and Stephen Piscotty had a hit and drew a walk.  Yadier Molina had a hit and an RBI, Eric Fryer had a hit and Jedd Gyorko had a hit and drew a walk.  Randal Grichuk had a hit and drew a walk, Greg Garcia had two hits and an RBI and Fryer hit a double and Molina hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Molina had a passed ball.  Siegrist had a pickoff. 

In the second Garcia hit an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Judge hit an RBI triple to tie the game at one.  Bird hit a two-run homerun in the second to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth Hicks hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the seventh Molina hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the eighth Romine hit a two-run double to make it 6-2.  Torryeyes hit a two-run double and Hicks hit a sac fly and it was 9-2 Yankees.  In the ninth Grichuk reached on a force attempt and an error to cut the lead to 9-3 and that was the final score. 

The Yankees swept the three game series for the second straight series.  They have won seven straight games and the first six home games of the season.
