The New York Mets bullpen wastes a strong outing from Matt Harvey in loss to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 2-1.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched really well.  The bullpen struggled a little bit.  Daniel Murphy led the offense with a couple of htis. 

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a walk.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and striking out one. 

Jason Hammel pitched eight innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Zac Rosscup gave up a hit and Hector Rondon won his second game of the season pitching an inning with a strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Murphy had two hits and drew a walk and Michael Cuddyer had a hit and an RBI.  Lucas Duda had a hit, Dilson Herrera had a hit and Murphy hit a double.  The Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Murphy had a stolen base and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

Dexter Fowler had a hit and an RBI, Kris Bryant had a hit and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Miguel Montero had a hit and drew two walks and Chris Coghlan had an RBI and drew a walk.  Addison Russell had two hits, Russell hit a double and the Cubs were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the sixth Cuddyer hit an RBI groundout giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Fowler hit an RBI single to tie the game and in the ninth Coghlan had an RBI walk to win the game.  The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday afternoon.   

The New York Yankees lose second straight to the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays.  The game took place at Tropicana Dome in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  Adam Warren started and pitched pretty well especially after the first couple of innings.  Mark Teixeira and Brian McCann each had two hits and an RBI. 

Warren pitched seven innings giving up three runs on seven hits.  He walked one and struck out seven and lost his second game of the season.  Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Nathan Karns pitched five innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts and won his third game of the season.  Xavier Cedeno pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Brandon Gomes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Kevin Jepsen pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Brad Boxberger saved his 10th game of the season pitching an inning and striking out two.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Teixeira had two hits and an RBI, McCann had two hits and an RBI and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Jose Pirela had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base. 

Stephen Souza Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Evan Longoria had a hit and James Loney had a hit.  Logan Forsythe had a hit, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Joey Butler had two hits and an RBI.  Forsythe and Cabrera each had a double and Souza Jr. hit a homerun.  The Rays were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Cabrera was caught stealing and Forsythe committed an error.  Kiermaier had an outfield assist. 

In the first Teixeira had an RBI single and McCann hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Souza Jr. hit a solo homerun in the first to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the second Cabrera hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.  Butler hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score.  The Rays have taken two out of three and the rubber game will be tomorrow night.

The New York Yankees take the series from the Baltimore Orioles behind a dominant Michael Pineda



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Michael Pineda started and dominated.  Carlos Beltran and Didi Gregorius each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run, he walked none and struck out sixteen batters.  He also won his fifth game of the season, Esmil Rogers pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Dellin Betances pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two strikeouts. 

Bud Norris pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Norris lost his fourth game of the season.  Brian Matusz pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jason Garcia pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with four walks and two strikeouts.   

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and two RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a hit and drew two walks and Gregorius had two hits and two RBI.  Ellsbury and Gregorius each hit a double, Beltran and McCann each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and was also caught stealing. 

Manny Machado had a hit, Jimmy Paredes had two hits and Adam Jones had two hits and an RBI.  Delmon Young had a hit, J.J. Hardy had two hits and an RBI and Jones, Young and Paredes each hit a double.  Hardy hit a homerun and the Orioles were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Jones had an outfield assist. 

Hardy hit a solo homerun in the second inning to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Beltran hit a solo homerun, Gregorius hit an RBI single and Ellsbury hit a two run double to give them a 4-1 lead.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Gregorius hit an RBI double and then Jones hit an RBI single in the eighth to complete the scoring. 

The Yankees will begin a nine game, ten day road trip on Monday in Tampa Bay.

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Chase Whitley started and just didn't have it.  Jose Pirela had two hits to lead the offense. 

Whitley pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs iwth two walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season, David Carpenter pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Chen picked up his first win of the season.  Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with two strikeouts, Darren O'Day pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Zach Britton saved his sixth game of the season retiring both batters that he faced. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI.  Pirela had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Stephen Drew had a hit.  John Ryan Murphy had an RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and Young and Drew each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

Paredes hit a solo homerun in the third giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Davis hit a solo homerun in the fourth to increase the lead to 2-0.  De Aza hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Orioles.  Young hit an RBI single in the fifth and the Orioles extended their lead to 5-0.  Murphy hit a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1.  Young hit an RBI double in the seventh and Beltran hit an RBI single in the eighth to complete the scoring at 6-2.   The two teams will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets win the rubber game and take the series with the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 7-4.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and was ok and the bullpen was good.  Daniel Murphy led the offense with three hits and three other players had two hits. 

Colon won his sixth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and retired him, Alex Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up a walk and Carlos Torres pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia picked up his 13th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Chad Billingsley lost his second game of the season pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Justin De Fratus pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Elvis Araujo pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one and Jeanmar Gomez pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits and two RBI, Juan Lagares had a hit and Murphy had three hits.  Lucas Duda had two hits, Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit and an RBI and Anthony Recker had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Johnny Monell had a hit and two RBI and Duda, Flores, Nieuwenhuis and Monell each hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Nieuwenhuis had a stolen base. 

Ben Revera had a hit and drew a walk, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Chase utley had a hit.  Grady Sizemore had two hits and an RBI, Cody Asche had a hit and Cesar Hernandez had two hits and an RBI.  Billingsley had a hit and an RBI, Jeff Francoeur had an RBI and Utley, Revere and Asche each hit a double.  Billingsley hit a homerun and the Phillies were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rupp committed an error and Revere had an outfield assist. 

In the third Billingsley hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Flores hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Sizemore hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to put the Phillies back on top.  In the fifth Granderson hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to push the Mets lead to 4-2.  A steal and a throwing error led to another run and a 5-2 Mets lead.  In the seventh Hernandez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-3 and then Francoeur hit a sac fly to make it a 5-4 game.  In the eighth Monell hit a two run double to push the lead to 7-4 and that would be the final score.  The Mets will travel to Wrigley Field in Chicago to take on the Cubs Monday night.  It will be the first of four this week.   

The New York Mets squeak by the Philadelphia Phillies with a couple of late runs



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 3-2.  Jon Niese started and pitched well for the Mets.  Michael Cuddyer and Ruben Tejada each had a couple of hits and Juan Lagares had a couple RBI to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with none of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out six and earned his third win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Alex Torres walked the only two guys he faced and Buddy Carlyle pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and he saved his 12th game of the season. 

Aaron Harang pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two and lost his third game of the season.  Jake Diekman pitched to one batter and struck him out, Luis Garcia pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout.

Ben Revere drew a walk, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Darin Ruf had a hit.  Jeff Francoeur had an RBI, Grady Sizemore drew a walk and Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit and an RBI, Andres Blanco had two hits and Chase Utley had a hit.  Ruiz and Galvis each hit a double and the Phillies were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the fifth Duda reached on an error and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth the Phillies tied the game at one on a Francoeur sac fly.  Ruiz hit an RBI double and the Phillies had a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Lagares hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.

The New York Mets lose in Philadelphia as Cole Hamels shuts them down



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 3-1.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and wasn't bad but he didn't dominate.  The Mets offense only managed five hits off of Hamels. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeout.  Harvey lost his first game of the season, Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning, Sean Gilmartin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and drawing a walk and Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Cole Hamels pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Hamels won his second game of the season.  Ken Giles pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jonathan Papelbon pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and he saved his sixth game of the season.   

Michael Cuddyer had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wilmer Flores drew a walk.  Kevin Plawecki had a hit, Dilson Herrera had a hit and drew a walk and Anthony Recker had a hit.  Herrera hit a double and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Ben Revere had a hit and an RBI, Freddy Galvis had three hits and drew a walk and Ryan Howard had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit, Howard hit a homerun and the Phillies were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Galvis had two stolen bases. 

Howard hit an RBI single in the first to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  A wild pitch in the fourth tied the game at one.  Howard hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Revere hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.  The series will conclude on Sunday.

In the third Paredes hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Davis hit a solo homerun in the fourth to push the lead to 2-0.  De Aza hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Orioles.  In the fifth Young hit an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.  The Yankees got on the board in the fifth on a Murphy sac fly.  In the seventh Young hit an RBI double to push the lead back to five runs.  Beltran hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  It will be the rubber game of the series as Michael Pineda will pitch for the Yankees against Bud Norris.
