New York Yankees defeat the Anaheim Angels behind a bounce back start from Masahiro Tanaka


The New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, California and the final score was 5-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well.  Aaron Judge hit a two-run homerun late in the game to give the Yankees the lead and ultimately the victory.  Didi Gregorius had four hits. 

Tanaka pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with only one run being earned.  He walked two and struck out eight.  Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and he earned his first win of the season and Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and earned his sixth save of the season. 

Alex Meyer started for the Angels and pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked five and struck out five.  Blake Parker pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two, Keynana Middleton pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and Jose Alvarez lost his third game of the season and pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.  Bud Norris pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Brooks Pounders pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Holliday drew two walks, Starlin Castro had two hits and drew a walk and Gregorius had four hits, two RBI and drew a walk.   Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI, Chris Carter drew a walk and Austin Romine had a hit.  Hicks hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Romine and Headley each committed an error. 

Cameron Maybin had a hit and an RBI, Kole Calhoun had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Albert Pujols drew a walk.  Yunel Escobar had a hit and drew a walk, Andrelton Simmons had a hit and Danny Espinosa had a hit and an RBI.  Escobar and Maybin each hit a double and Calhoun hit a homerun.  The Angels were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Young Jr. had a stolen base. 

In the first Calhoun hit a solo homerun to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the third Gregorius hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Headley hit an RBI single to make it a 3-1 game and in the seventh Espinosa hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.  Maybin hit an RBI double to tie the game at three.  In the eighth Judge hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees the 5-3 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night. 


New York Mets win behind a complete game from Jacob deGrom


The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Jay Bruce had three hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched a complete game giving up five hits and a run.  He walked four and struck out six and won his fifth game of the season. 

John Lackey pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Lackey lost his seventh game of the season.  Brian Duensing pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Felix Pena pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Neil Walker had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Bruce had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and two RBI and Travis d’Arnaud had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI, Bruce and d’Arnaud each hit a double and Cabrera hit two homeruns and Bruce also hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

Kris Bryant had a hit, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew two walks and Jason Heyward had a hit.  Javier Baez drew a walk, Addison Russell had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Lackey had a hit.  Rizzo hit a double and Russell hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Contreras had a passed ball. 

In the second Cabrera hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Bruce hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Cabrera hit his second solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-0.  Russell hit a solo homerun in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the eighth d’Arnaud hit an RBI double to make it 5-1 and Reyes hit an RBI single to make it a 6-1 game which would be the final score. 

The Mets and Cubs will play game two on Tuesday night.

New York Mets complete the sweep of the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 2-1.  Seth Lugo started for the Mets and he pitched well and the bullpen did their job.  Michael Conforto had two hits to lead the offense. 

Lugo pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six and won his first game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning with a strikeout and Addison Reed pitched an inning with two strikeouts and saved his 11th game of the season. 

Jaime Garcia started for the Braves and pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and nine strikeouts and lost his fifth game of the season.  Arodys Vizcaino pitched a perfect inning, Jose Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Ian Krol pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Conforto had two hits, Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI and Wilmer Flores had an RBI.  Jay Bruce had a hit, Neil Walker had a hit and drew a walk and Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk.  Jose Reyes had a hit and drew a walk, Lugo had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit.  Conforto, Lugo and Bruce each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and was caught stealing. 

Ender Inciarte had a hit and drew a walk, Nick Markakis had two hits and Matt Kemp had a hit and drew a walk.  Tyler Flowers had a hit, Dansby Swanson had an RBI and Garcia had a hit.  Flowers hit a double and the Braves were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Flores hit a sac fly giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Swanson hit a sac fly to tie the game at one and in the third Lagares hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 2-1 lead which would hold up as that would be the final score. 
The Mets will begin a series with the Chicago Cubs on Monday night at Citi Field

New York Yankees pound the Baltimore Orioles once again


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 14-3.  Chad Green started and he didn’t last that long but the bullpen did well.  Aaron Judge had four hits to lead the offense including two homeruns. 

Green pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out three.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and drew a walk and Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and won his second game of the season.  Domingo German made his major league debut and pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he walked one and struck out one. 

Kevin Gausman pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with six walks.  Gausman lost his fifth game of the season.  Logan Verrett pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two, Jimmy Yacabonis pitched an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout and Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks and Judge had four hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Holliday had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Starlin Castro had two hits and four RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit and three RBI.  Didi Gregorius had two hits, Chris Carter had two hits and drew two walks and Ronald Torreyes had a hit and drew a walk.  Judge, Gregorius and Hicks each hit a double.  Sanchez and Castro each hit a homerun and Judge hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 5-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gregorius had a pick off. 

Seth Smith had two hits and an RBI, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and an RBI and Chris Davis had a hit.  Trey Mancini had a hit and drew two walks, J.J. Hardy had two hits and Caleb Joseph drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had two hits and an RBI, Hardy, Tejada, Smith and Schoop each hit a double.  The Orioles were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Schoop committed an error. 

In the first Castro hit a two-run single and Sanchez hit a three-run homerun to make it 5-0 Yankees.  In the third Tejada hit an RBI double, Smith hit an RBI double and Schoop hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the fourth Holliday hit a two-run single to push the lead to 7-3.  In the sixth Judge hit a solo homerun, Castro hit a two-run homerun to make it 10-3.  In the seventh Hicks hit a two-run double to push the lead to 12-3.  Judge hit his second homerun of the game a two-run shot to make it a 14-3 game and that was the final score. 

The Yankees swept the three-game series and won five of six on the homestand.  They will begin a three- game series with the Anaheim Angels in California on Monday night. 

 The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 16-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge, Matt Holliday and Gary Sanchez each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched seven innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Severino won his fifth game of the season.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Tommy Layne pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk. 

Chris Tillman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and nine runs.  He walked three and struck out one and lost his fourth game of the season.  Stefan Crichton pitched two innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Edwin Jackson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Richard Bleier pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.  Mike Wright pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts.

Jonathan Schoop drew a walk, Mark Trumbo drew a walk and Chris Davis had a hit and an RBI.  Caleb Joseph had a hit and an RBI, Trey Mancini had a hit and Joey Rickard had a hit and an RBI.  Ruben Tejada drew a walk, Davis and Rickard each hit a homerun and the Orioles were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Mancini had an outfield assist. 

New York Mets sweep a doubleheader from the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets swept a doubleheader from the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.  The games took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score were 6-1 and 8-1.  In the first game Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and pitched very well and in the second game it was Steven Matz making his season debut and he pitched very well also.  In the first game Yoenis Cespedes led the offense with a couple of hits and four RBI and in the second game Wilmer Flores had four hits. 

Gsellman pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gsellman won his fifth game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and struck him out, Fernando Salas pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Josh Edgin pitched to one batter giving up a hit.  Addison Reed pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and recorded his 10th save of the season. 

Sean Newcomb pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked two and struck out seven and lost his first game of the season.  Jason Motte pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and Luke Jackson pitched two innings giving up three hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Michael Conforto drew two walks and Cespedes had two hits and four RBI.  Flores had two hits and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and T.J. Rivera had an RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit and drew a walk, Gsellman drew a walk and Lagares hit a double and Cespedes hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cabrera committed two errors and Reyes committed an error. 

Ender Inciarte had a hit, Brandon Phillips had two hits and an RBI and Matt Adams had a hit and drew a walk.  Danny Santana had a hit, Rio Ruiz drew a walk and Dansby Swanson had a hit.  Phillips hit a double and he hit a homerun.  The Braves were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Newcomb and Adams each committed an error. 

In the second T. Rivera hit a sac fly giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Flores hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 and Phillips hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the ninth Cespedes hit a grand slam to extend the lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

In the second game Matz pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Matz won his first game of the season.  Neil Ramirez pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Tyler Pill pitched a perfect inning. 

Matt Wisler started for the Braves and he pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out seven and lost his first game of the season.  Sam Freeman pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout, Eric O’Flaherty pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two strikeouts and Jason Motte pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Michael Conforto drew two walks, Jose Reyes had a hit and drew a walk and Jay Bruce had two hits and three RBI.  Neil Walker had two hits and drew two walks, Flores had four hits and Curtis Granderson had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a hit and two RBI, d’Arnaud had an RBI and T. Rivera had a hit and two RBI.  Granderson and Lagares each hit a double and Flores hit two doubles.  Flores hit a triple and Bruce and T. Brandon Phillips had a hit, Nick Markakis drew two walks and Dansby Swanson had a hit.  Johan Camargo had two hits and an RBI, Lane Adams had a hit and Swanson hit a double.  The Braves were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Santana and Adams each committed an error. 

In the fifth Bruce hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth d’Arnaud hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the seventh Camargo hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  T. Rivera hit a two-run homerun in the eighth to make it 6-1 and Lagares hit a two-run double in the ninth to push the lead to 8-1 which would be the final score. 

The Mets will finish their series with the Braves on Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets lose a close one in Atlanta


The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 3-2.  Matt Harvey started and he pitched very well and the bullpen wasn’t very good.  Jay Bruce led the offense with two hits. 

Harvey pitched five shutout innings giving up four hits and he walked two and struck out three.  Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout, Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning and Fernando Salas lost his second game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and gave up a hit. 

Julio Teheran pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts.  Eric O’Flaherty pitched to one batter and struck him out, Jason Motte pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Ian Krol pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Jose Ramirez pitched to one batter and retired him.  Jim Johnson won his fourth game of the season pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Bruce had two hits, Wilmer Flores drew a walk and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and an RBI and Harvey had a hit.  Bruce hit a double and Granderson and d’Arnaud each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Nick Markakis had a hit, Matt Kemp had three hits and Matt Adams drew a walk.  Danny Santana had two hits and drew a walk, Dansby Swanson had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Rio Ruiz had a hit and an RBI.  Kemp hit a double and Swanson hit two doubles and the Braves were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Kemp was caught stealing. 

In the third Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Swanson hit a two-run double to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the ninth Ruiz hit an RBI single to give the Braves a 3-2 lead. 

The Mets and Braves will play a double header on Saturday afternoon.   

New York Yankees run away late from the Baltimore Orioles


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-2.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Matt Holliday and Gary Sanchez each had two hits. 

Montgomery pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out eight and he won his fourth game of the season.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Jonathan Holder pitched an inning with a walk and he struck out one. 

Dylan Bundy lost his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out six.  Edwin Jackson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three unearned runs and he walked one and Stefan Crichton pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk.

In the second Schoop hit a two-run homerun to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Castro hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  Headley hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Hicks hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh Hicks hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 5-2.  Holliday hit an RBI double to make it 6-2.  In the eighth Romine hit a two-run single pushing the lead to 8-2.  The Yankees and Orioles will play game two of three on Saturday night.
