The New York Yankees start long road trip with a good win in Kansas City



The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 4-2.  Chase Whitley started and pitched great.  Dellin Betances and David Robertson closed it out.  Brian McCann had the big hit which was a three run double. 

Whitley pitched seven innings giving up two runs on five hits.  He walked none and struck out three and earned his first major league win.  This was also the first time he went past five innings in any of his starts this year.  Betances pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and he gave up a hit and Robertson pitched a scoreless inning to pick up his 14th save of the season.  Robertson gave up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Jeremy Guthrie lost his sixth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out two, Francisley Bueno pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Wilken Rodriguez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner had two hits and Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk.  McCann had a hit and three RBI, Yangervis Solarte drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Brian Roberts had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Brendan Ryan had a hit and McCann hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ryan was caught stealing and Suzuki was picked off in the game. 

Nori Aoki had a hit, Billy Butler had a hit and Alex Gordon had two hits and drew a walk.  Salvador Perez had a hit and an RBI, Lorenzo Cain had a hit and an RBI and Alcides Escobar had a hit.  Gordon, Cain, Escobar and Butler each hit a double.  The Royals were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gordon had a stolen base and Aoki was caught stealing.  Infante committed an error. 

Roberts hit an RBI single in the second giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Perez tied the score with an RBI single.  McCann hit a three run double in the third to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  The Royals would score one more run in the fifth on a Cain RBI double.  The final score was 4-2 Yankees as they held on in the ninth for the win.  It was the Yankees second win in a row.  The two teams will play game two of their four game series on Saturday night.

The New York Mets drop another one to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 5-4.  Daisuki Matsuzaka started for the Mets and didn't pitch that well, the bullpen was pretty good.  Daniel Murphy had three hits. 

Matsuzaka pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with five walks and two strikeouts.  Dana Eveland lost his first game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning and Buddy Carlyle pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and striking out one and Carlos Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out three. 

Edwin Jackson won his fourth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up five hits and four runs but only one was earned.  He walked five and struck out four.  Carlos Villanueva pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts, Wesley Wright struck out the only batter that he faced and James Russell faced two batters and retired them both.  Justin Grimm retired the only batter that he faced, Pedro Strop pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Hector Rondon saved his seventh game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit with two strikeouts.   

Matt den Dekker drew a walk, Murphy had three hits and David Wright drew two walks.  Curtis Granderson had two hits, Bobby Abreu drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Matsuzaka drew a walk and Duda and Murphy each hit a double.  Tejada hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Emilio Bonifacio had a hit, Justin Ruggiano had a hit and drew three walks and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew two walks.  Starlin Castro had three hits and three RBI, Nate Schierholtz had an RBI and Chris Coghlan had a hit and drew two walks.  Mike Olt drew a walk, Luis Valbuena had a hit and Ruggiano and Castro each hit a double.  Coghlan hit a triple and the Cubs were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first Abreu reached on an error and a run scored and Duda hit a two run double to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first the Cubs scored two runs.  Castro hit an RBI single and Schierholtz had an RBI groundout.  The score was 3-2 Mets and then Tejada homered in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-2.  Castro hit a two run single in the fifth to tie the game at four  and a wild pitch made it 5-4 Cubs.  5-4 would be the final score of the game.  The two teams will play the final game of the series on Thursday night.  The Mets will try and avoid the sweep. 

The New York Yankees end losing streak behind Masahiro Tanaka in win over the Oakland Athletics



The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Brett Gardner hit a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up a run and five hits.  He walked one and struck out four and won his ninth game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Adam Warren pitched a scoreless inning with two hits and two strikeouts and David Robertson gave up a hit in an inning and struck out two. 

Drew Pomeranz lost his  third game of the season pitching seven inning and giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Jim Johnson pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, Alfonso Soriano had two hits and an RBI and  Ellsbury and Soriano each hit a double.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases. 

Coco Crisp had a hit and drew a walk, John Jaso had two hits and an RBI and Brandon Moss had two hits.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, Vogt had two hits and Jaso hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gentry had a stolen base and Moss committed an error. 

Jaso hit a solo homerun in the first to give the A's a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Soriano hit an RBI single to tie the game at one and then in the third Gardner hit a solo homerun to make it 2-1 and that would be the final score. 

The New York Yankees lose their fourth straight in loss to Oakland Athletics



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-4.  Vidal Nuno started and pitched ok but didn't give them any length.  The bullpen didn't fare so well.  Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with three hits and three RBI. 

Nuno pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Matt Daley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned, Mat t Thornton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Jose Ramirez lost his first game of the season.  Ramirez made his major league debut and pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Wade Leblanc made his Yankees debut pitching an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. 

Jesse Chavez won his fifth game of the season pitching six innings giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Fernando Abad pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Dan Otero pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out two and Sean Doolittle pitched a perfect inning.

Jed Lowrie had two hits and an RBI, Josh Donaldson had three hits and an RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had three hits and two RBI.  Derek Norris had a hit and drew a walk, Brandon Moss had a hit and an RBI and Kyle Blanks had a hit, an RBI and hit a double.  Cespedes hit two homeruns and Donaldson hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Norris and Lowrie each committed an error. 

In the third Jeter hit an RBI single and Ellsbury hit a three run homerun giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  Cespedes hit a solo homerun in the fourth to make it a 4-1 game.  Lowrie hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2.  Cespedes hit a solo homerun in the sixth to make it a 4-3 game.  Callaspo hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the sixth.  In the seventh Donaldson hit a solo homerun to give the A's a 5-4 lead.  In the ninth Moss was hit by a pitch scoring a run and Blanks hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-4 game and that was the final score.  The Yankees will try and salvage the final game of the series on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees blow another late lead and lose to the Oakland Athletics



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched great.  Dellin Betances blew the lead with two outs in the eighth and Adam Warren was terrible in relief.  Mark Teixeira returned and had two hits and two RBI. 

Kuroda pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up one run on three hits.  He walked one and struck out two, Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, David Robertson pitched a perfect inning and Warren pitched 1/3 of an inning and giving up three runs and three hits with a walk.  Warren lost his third game of the season and Preston Claiborne pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk. 

Scott Kazmir pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and 10 strikeouts.  Fernando Abad pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout, Luke Gregorson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dan Otero pitched an inning giving up a hit and winning his fifth game of the season.  Sean Doolittle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and picked up his sixth save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk and Teixeira had two hits and two RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit and drew a walk, Scott Sizemore had a hit and John Ryan Murphy drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and committed an error. 

Coco Crisp had a hit and drew a walk, John Jaso drew a walk and Brandon Moss had two hits and two RBI.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk, Jed Lowrie had a hit and an RBI and Alberto Callaspo drew a walk.  Stephen Vogt had a hit and an RBI, Kyle Blanks had a hit and an RBI and  Vogt and Lowrie each hit a double.  Moss hit two homeruns and the Athletics were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Teixeira.  The Athletics tied the game at one in the fifth on a Moss solo homerun.  The Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a Teixeira solo homerun.  The Athletics tied the game at two in the eighth on a RBI double by Vogt.  In the tenth the Athletics scored three runs to win the game 5-2.  The Yankees had their chances in the seventh and eighth but failed to capitalize.  In the seventh they had first and second no outs and didn't score and in the eighth man on second and one out and didn't score.  The two teams will play game two out of three on Wednesday night.
