The New York Yankees win in Detroit

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers by the score of 9-4 on Friday night. The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched well. The bullpen made it a little interesting at the end and Rafael Soriano had to come on in and close the game out. Curtis Granderson led the offense. Casey Crosby was making his major league debut for the Tigers. He struggled and the bullpen gave up some late runs to put the game out of reach. Quintin Berry and Delmon Young led the Tigers offense. 
Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts. Sabathia picked up his seventh win of the season. Cody Eppley didn’t record an out and he gave up a hit and a run, Boone Logan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up one hit and Cory Wade faced two batters and retired them both. Clay Rapada pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walking two and Soriano earned his seventh save of the season retiring both batters that he faced. Crosby in his first game suffered his first loss. He pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and six runs with four walks and three strikeouts. The bullpen pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs. They walked two and struck out seven. Luis Marte pitched really well. He pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and striking out three.

Derek Jeter had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Granderson had two hits and four RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit. Alex Rodriguez had a hit and two RBI, Robinson Cano drew a walk and Nick Swisher drew two walks. Andruw Jones had a hit and an RBI, Jayson Nix had a hit and drew two walks and Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI. Nix and Jones each had a double, Granderson and Rodriguez each had a homerun. The Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Nix and Granderson each had a stolen base.

Berry had three hits for the Tigers. Danny Worth had a hit, RBI and drew a walk, Miguel Cabrera had a hit and Prince Fielder had a hit, RBI and drew a walk. Young had three hits, Gerald Laird had a hit and drew a walk and Jhonny Peralta had an RBI. Alex Avila drew a walk, Ramon Santiago had a hit and an RBI. Berry, Young and Cabrera each had a double. Berry had a triple and Santiago had a homerun. The Tigers were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Santos had a passed ball.

Worth had an RBI single in the first to make it 1-0 Tigers. In the second inning Jeter walked to drive in a run and Granderson hit a grand slam to make it 5-1 Yankees. In the third Santiago hit a solo homerun and Fielder hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 Yankees. Stewart hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 6-4 Yankees. Jones hit an RBI double in the eighth to make it a 7-4 game. Peralta hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 7-5 and in the ninth Rodriguez hit a two run homerun to make it 9-5. The final score would be 9-5 Yankees.

The Yankees improved their record to 28-23 and the Tigers record dropped to 24-28. The Yankees and Tigers are playing a three game series in Detroit. The Yankees will have off on Monday and start a homestand on Tuesday night.
