The Yankees sweep the Indians but have a rough day

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians by the score of 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon. The game was played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx,NY. The Yankees won the game but they did have a rough day. They placed their ace CC Sabathia on the disabled list with a slight groin strain. He will miss two starts and return right after the All Star Break. Andy Pettitte who started this game for the Yankees was taken out after being hit in the shin by a line drive. It was later revealed that he suffered a fractured ankle and will be out a minimum of six weeks. This is a big blow to the Yankees but they will try to get by with their offense and bullpen. There are guys like Freddy Garcia who will have to step up for them. The Yankees got some key hits and a big homerun from Robinson Cano. Ubaldo Jiminez had the Yankees really baffled early on but they were able to get to him eventually. 
Pettitte pitched four innings giving up three hits and two runs, one of them being earned. He walked one and struck out seven. Cody Eppley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Clay Rapada pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Freddy Garcia earned his second win pitching 2 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts. Dave Robertson pitched an inning striking out two and Rafael Soriano earned his 17th save pitching an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout. Ubaldo Jiminez took the loss, his sixth of the season. He pitched six innings giving up four hits and four runs with four walks and seven strikeouts. Joe Smith pitched an inning, striking out two and Pestano pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run and struck out a batter.

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew a walk and Robinson Cano had three hits and two RBI. Raul Ibanez had a hit and drew a walk, Eric Chavez had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk. Chavez and Rodriguez each had a double and Cano had a homerun. The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Granderson had a stolen base, Rodriguez committed an error and Pettitte picked off a runner.

Michael Brantley had an RBI and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Kipnis had two hits and an RBI. Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit, Shelly Duncan had a hit and an RBI and Choo drew a walk. Casey Kotchman had a hit, Lou Marson had two hits and Cunningham drew a walk. Duncan had a double and the Indians were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Kipnis had a stolen base and Cunningham was caught stealing.

In the second inning Duncan had an RBI double to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. Chavez had a two run double in the fourth to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Cabrera and Kipnis each had an RBI single in the fifth to give Cleveland a 3-2 lead. Cano hit a two run homerun in the sixth giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead. The Yankees would expand their lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning. Chavez had an RBI single and then in the ninth it got interesting but the Yankees held on. Brantley drew a walk to drive in the final run and the final score was 5-4.

The Yankees swept the three game series and have won five straight. The Yankees have also won 15 of their last 18 games. The Yankees have a five game lead for first place in the AL East. The Yankees improved their record to 46-28. The Indians record fell to 37-37. The Yankees will play a four game series at home against the Chicago White Sox with Old Timers Day being on Sunday.
