The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night by the score of 3-2. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched very well, David Robertson didn’t out of the bullpen. Russell Martin led the Yankees offense. Felix Doubront pitched very well for the Red Sox and so did Alfredo Aceves. Pedro Ciriaco led the Sox offense.
Kuroda pitched eight innings giving up two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. Rafael Soriano pitched a perfect inning and Robertson lost his fourth game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk. Doubront pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with five walks and eight strikeouts. Matt Albers gave up a hit without recording an out, Andrew Miller pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Alfredo Aceves blew a save but got his second win of the season. He pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two strikeouts.
Derek Jeter had a hit, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Nick Swisher had a couple of hits. Andruw Jones had a hit and drew a walk, Martin had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit. Jayson Nix drew a walk. Jones hit a double, Martin hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Suzuki had a stolen base.
Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Carl Crawford had a hit and Adrian Gonzalez had two hits. Cody Ross had a hit, Jarrod Saltalamacchia drew two walks and Will Middlebrooks had a hit. Ryan Sweeney had a hit and two RBI, Pedro Ciriaco had a hit and an RBI. Sweeney and Ellsbury each hit a double and the Red Sox were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base.
Sweeney hit a two run double in the second. Martin hit a solo homerun in the seventh and an RBI single in the eighth to tie the game at two. In the tenth Ciriaco had an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead and that was the final score.
The Red sox won two out of three in this series. The Yankees record dropped to 60-41 and the Red Sox improved their record to 51-51. The Yankees will begin a three game series with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.
