The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Jeremy Hefner started for the Mets and pitched very well. Ike Davis led the Mets offense. Harrell started for the Astros and pitched well and Gonzalez led their offense.
Hefner pitched eight innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts. Carson faced one batter and retired him and Bobby Parnell won his third game of the season. Parnell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk. Harrell pitched seven innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts and Lopez lost his second game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run. He struck out one batter.
David Wright had a hit, Davis had two hits and two RBI and Lucas Duda drew a walk. Kelly Shoppach had a hit and drew a walk, Davis hit two homeruns. The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Baxter had a stolen base and Duda had an outfield assist.
Jose Altuve had a hit, Mike Gonzalez had two hits and an RBI and Brett Wallace had a hit. Ben Francisco had a hit, Moore drew a walk and Chris Snyder drew a walk. Fernando Martinez had a hit, Gonzalez hit a double and the Astros were 2-5 with runners in scoring position. The Astros left five men on base and Altuve had a stolen base.
In the fourth inning Davis hit a solo homerun to make it 1-0 Mets. Gonzalez hit an RBI double in the ninth to tie the game at one and Davis hit a walk-off homerun in the ninth to win the game for the Mets. The Mets won the game 2-1.
The Mets won two out of three in this series and now have won two games in a row. The Mets record improved to 59-69. The Astros record dropped to 40-88. The Mets will have Monday off and then play at the Phillies for a three game series followed by a series in Miami against the Marlins.
