New York Yankees earn the victory over the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 5-3. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched well after a rough start. The bullpen was great and Robinson Cano and Vernon Wells each homered for the Yankees. 
Kuroda pitched six innings giving up three runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Kuroda earned his third victory of the season. Joba Chamberlain pitched an inning giving up a hit, David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Mariano Rivera earned his seventh save of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Ben Francisco had a hit and Cano had a hit and three RBI. Wells had a hit and an RBI, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a couple of hits. Eduardo Nunez drew a walk, Jayson Nix had two hits and Cervelli, Wells and Cano each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Suzuki had a stolen base and Overbay committed an error.

Mark Buehrle took the loss pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with three strikeouts. Buehrle took his first loss of the season, Brad Lincoln pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Brett Cecil pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Rajai Davis had a hit, Kawasaki had a hit and Jose Bautista drew a walk. Edward Encarnacion had a hit and two RBI, Melky Cabrera had a hit and J.P. Arencibia had a hit. Brett Lawrie had two hits and an RBI, Kawasaki hit a double, Encarnacion and Lawrie each hit a homerun. The Blue Jays were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

In the first Encarnacion hit a two run homerun to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. Lawrie hit a solo homerun in the second to extend the Blue Jays lead to 3-0. Wells hit a solo homerun in the second to make it 3-1 Blue Jays. In the bottom of the third Cano hit a three run homerun to make it 4-3 Yankees and they added a run in the fourth on a Cervelli solo homerun and that completed the scoring. The Yankees won the game 5-3.

The Yankees record improved to 12-9 on the season and the Blue Jays record fell to 9-14. The two teams will play game two of the four game series on Friday night.
