The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. The final score was 4-1 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Carlos Torres pitched well and the bullpen was excellent. David Wright and John Buck each had two hits.
Torres picked up his first victory of the season. He pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts. David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Scott Rice faced one batter and retired him and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning striking out one. Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning to pick up his 19th save of the season. He struck out two batters.
Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wright had two hits. Marlon Byrd drew a walk, Ike Davis had a hit and an RBI and Buck had two hits and an RBI. Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, Torres had a hit and an RBI and Lagares and Davis each hit a double. The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Young was caught stealing and Lagares had an outfield assist.
Kris Medlen lost his sixth game of the season. He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts. David Carpenter pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Cameron Loe pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.
Andrelton Simmons had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jayson Heward had a hit and drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk. Gattis had a hit, Dan Uggla had two hits and Johnson had a hit. Johnson and McCann each hit a double and Simmons hit a homerun. The Braves were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Uggla had a stolen base.
Simmons hit a homerun to lead off the game. The Braves had a 1-0 lead and the Mets would tie the game in the third inning. Torres hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. The Mets scored three runs in the sixth and that was all the scoring. The final was 4-1 Mets. Davis hit an RBI double, Buck an RBI single and Lagares hit a sacrifice fly.
The Mets record improved to 44-52 and the Braves record dropped to 56-44. The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.
