The New York Mets blow a late lead and suffer a tough loss to the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 4-3.   Noah Syndergaard pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with five walks and four strikeouts.  Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Jennry Mejia pitched an inning with a strikeout and Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout. 

Jordan Zimmermann pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and three runs with six strikeouts.  Matt Thornton earned his first win of the season pitching a perfect inning and Drew Storen pitched a perfect inning striking out the side for his 29th save of the season. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Daniel Murphy had two hits.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit and two RBI, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and an RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Nieuwenhuis hit a double and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Michael Taylor had two hits and three RBI, Danny Espinosa had a hit and an RBI and Bryce Harper had two hits and drew a walk.  Dan Uggla drew a walk, Clint Robinson drew a walk and Wilson Ramos had a hit.  Ian Desmond had two hits and drew two walks, Matt den Dekker had a hit and drew three walks and Espinosa hit a double.  The Nationals were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Desmond and Taylor each had a stolen base. 

In the fourth Nieuwenhuis hit a two run double giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Plawecki hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Taylor hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the eighth Taylor hit a two run single to tie the game at three.  Espinosa hit an RBI double to make it 4-3 Nationals in the eighth and that was the final score. 

The Mets lost two out of three in the series and are now three games back in the NL East.  They were four outs away from being one game out.

The New York Mets are doubled up by the Washington Nationals


The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The final score was 6-3 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched ok and bullpen was ok. Justin Turner and Travis d’Arnaud each had two hits.

Gee pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with no walks and five strikeouts. Gee lost his 10th game of the season, Pedro Feliciano faced two batters and retired them both, Vic Black pitched a perfect inning and Frank Francisco pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. Tim Byrdak pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit. Lucas Duda had a hit, Turner had two hits and an RBI and Matthew den Dekker had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk. d’Arnaud had two hits, Omar Quintanilla had a hit and Murphy and Turner each hit a double. The Mets were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. den Dekker had a stolen base and was caught stealing. Young Jr. was caught stealing.

Jordan Zimmerman pitched five innings giving up eight hits and three runs. He walked one and struck out four. Craig Stammen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Drew Storen pitched an inning giving up two walks and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Rafael Soriano saved his 40th game pitching an inning and giving up a hit.

Denard Span had a hit, Jayson Werth had three hits and two RBI and Ian Desmond had a hit. Adam LaRoche had two hits and an RBI, Wilton Ramos had a hit and an RBI and Moore had a hit. Scott Hairston had a hit and two RBI, Walters had a hit and Moore and Span each hit a double and Werth hit two doubles. Werth, LaRoche and Hairston each hit a homerun. The Nationals were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Desmond was caught stealing and LaRoche committed two errors.

Werth hit a solo homerun in the first to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. LaRoche hit a solo homerun in the second to make it a 2-0 game. Werth hit an RBI double in the third to extend the lead to 3-0. In the fourth Turner hit an RBI single. Ramos hit an RBI single in the sixth to make it a 4-1 game. den Dekker hit a two run single in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3. Hairston hit a two run homerun in the ninth to push the lead to 6-3 and that was the final score.

The Mets record fell to 64-79 and the Nationals record improved to 75-69. The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets win a close one over the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Friday night. The final score was 3-2 and the game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and was good and the bullpen was good. Daniel Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud each had two hits to pace the offense.

Gee pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Gee won his 10th game of the season. Scott Rice retired the only batter that he faced and LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout for his sixth save of the season.

Eric Young Jr. drew a walk, Murphy had two hits and Andrew Brown had a hit and an RBI. Ike Davis had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and d’Arnaud had two hits. d’Arnaud and Murphy each hit a double and Davis hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Young had a stolen base.

Jordan Zimmerman lost his eighth game of the season pitching 7 2/3 innings. He gave up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts. Fernando Abad gave up a walk in 1/3 of an inning and Ryan Mattheus pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Denard Span had a hit, Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and Wilson Ramos had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Anthony Rendon had a hit, Steve Lombardozzi had a hit and an RBI and Ramos and Lombardozzi each hit a homerun. The Nationals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. In the third Ramos hit a solo homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Davis hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. Brown hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it 3-1 Mets. The Nationals scored a run in the eighth on a solo homerun by Lombardozzi. The final score was 3-2 Mets.

The Mets record improved to 61-72 and the Nationals record fell to 68-66. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night.
