The New York Mets were defeated by
the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. The
game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was
2-1. Zack Wheeler started and pitched
well for the Mets. Curtis Granderson had
three hits to lead the offense.
Wheeler pitched 6 2/3 innings
giving up two hits and no runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Vic Black pitched 2/3 of an inning giving
up a hit and had two strikeouts and Scott Rice took his second loss of the
season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a
strikeout.
Jake Arrieta pitched 4 2/3 innings
giving up seven hits and a run with three walks and two strikeouts. Brian Schlitter pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings
with a strikeout, James Russell pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and
striking out one and Neil Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning with a
strikeout. Hector Rondon won his first
game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit.
Matt den Dekker had two hits,
Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright drew two walks. Granderson had three hits and an RBI, Lucas
Duda had a hit and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had a hit. Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and the Mets were
1-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. den Dekker and Granderson each had a stolen
base.
Emilio Bonifacio had a hit and drew
a walk, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and Luis Valbuena drew a walk. Nate Shierholtz had three hits and an RBI, Chris
Coghlan had a hit and an RBI. Coghlan
had a homerun and the Cubs were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left
five men on base. Bonifacio had a stolen
base, Schierholtz was caught stealing and Rizzo committed an error.
In the first Granderson had a
sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
In the eighth the Cubs tied it and then won it in the ninth. Coghlan hit a solo homerun in the eighth and
in the ninth Schierholtz hit an RBI single to give the Cubs the 2-1 win. The two teams will play game two of their
three game series on Wednesday night.
