The New York Yankees lose another one as their season slips away

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 6-1.  Michael Pineda started and was pretty good.  The offense as usual didn't do much of anything and the bullpen wasn't great.

Pineda pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five.  Josh Outman pitched 2/3 of an inning, Esmil rogers pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and Rich Hill didn't record an out and gave up two hits and a run.  David Phelps pitched 2/3 of an inning and walked one and David Huff pitched a perfect inning.

Jake Odorizzi won his 11th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up five hits and a run.  Brandon Gomes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jeff Beliveau pitched to one batter and retired him and Steve Geitz hit a batter and then was taken out after a lot of shouting took place.  C.J. Riefenhauser pitched an inning giving up a hit and Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout.

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Chris Young had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and an RBI, Francisco Cervelli had two hits and John Ryan Murphy drew a walk.  Brendan Ryan had a hit and drew a walk, Young hit a double and the Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Antoan Richardson had a stolen base and Ryan and Pineda each committed an error.

Ben Zobrist drew a walk, David DeJesus had a hit and Evan Longoria had a hit and an RBI.  James Loney had three hits, Nick Franklin had two hits and an RBI and Matt Joyce drew a walk.  Wil Myers had two RBI, Yunel Escobar had ahit and an RBI and Kevin Kiermaier drew a walk.  Ryan Hanigan drew a walk.  Franklin hit a double and the Rays were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

In the second Suzuki hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Zobrist reached on a missed catch error by Pineda and the game was tied at one.  In the sixth Escobar hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Rays.  Longoria hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 in the seventh and Franklin hit an RBI single giving them the 4-1 lead.  A weird play made it 6-1 as two runners tagged up on a great catch by Ellsbury and scored but the runner on second left early and it wasn't reviewable so the call stood and it was 6-1 Rays.  6-1 was the final score and the Yankees will try and avoid the sweep on Wednesday night.
