The New York Yankees walk off with a win over the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Chris Capuano started and didn't pitch too well but the bullpen was great.  Mark Teixeira and Chase Headley hit homeruns in the ninth to win the game. 
Capuano pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out two.  Rich Hill pitched to one batter and struck him out, Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one and Josh Outman retired the only batter that he faced.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings and he struck out two batters and Adam Warren won his third game of the season pitching a scoreless inning. 
Brandon Workman pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Tommy Layne pitched an inning walking one, Junichi Tazawa pitched a perfect inning and Koji Uehara pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs for his fifth loss of the season and fifth blown save. 
Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and two RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Teixeira had two hits and an RBI and Headley had a hit and an RBI.  Stephen Drew drew a walk, Zelous Wheeler had  a pinch hit walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Gardner and Jeter each hit a double and Teixeira and Headley each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Warren committed an error. 
Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI, Mookie Betts had a hit and David Ortiz had two hits and three RBI.  Mike Napoli had two hits, Allen Craig drew a walk and Christian Vasquez had a hit.  Vasquez hit a double, Holt hit a homerun and Ortiz hit two homeruns.  The Red Sox were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Betts had an outfield assist.
The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead on an Ortiz solo homerun in the first.  They increased their lead to 3-0 in the third on a two run homerun by Ortiz.  The Yankees came back in the third with three runs to tie the game. Jeter hit a two run double and Beltran hit an RBI single.  The Red Sox took a 4-3 lead on a Holt solo homerun in the fifth.  The Yankees in the ninth hit two solo homeruns by Teixeira and Headley to win the game 5-4.  The Yankees have won two games in a row and will begin a  very important three game series with the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.
