The New York Mets end a long
homestand with a perfect record and extend streak to 11 games
The New York Mets defeated the
Atlanta Braves on Thursday afternoon.
The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final
score was 6-3. Bartolo Colon started for
the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen was great and Daniel Murphy had a couple
of hits and four RBI to lead the offense.
Colon won his fourth game of the
season by pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and three runs. He didn't walk a batter and struck out
five. Buddy Carlyle pitched a perfect
inning with a strikeout, Alex Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit and
striking out one and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning walking one and striking
out two. Familia picked up his eighth
save of the season.
Julio Teheran pitched 4 1/3 innings
giving up three hits and four runs with five walks and five strikeouts. He took his first loss of the season. Ian Thomas pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up
two walks and striking out one, Sugar Ray Marimon pitched 1 1/3 innings giving
up a walk and striking out two and Luis Avilan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving
up three hits and two runs. Brandon
Cunniff pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with four strikeouts.
Curtis Granderson had a hit and
drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit and drew three
walks. Michael Cuddyer had an RBI and
drew two walks, Murphy had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk and Eric Campbell
had an RBI and drew a walk. Wilmer
Flores had a hit, Murphy hit a double and the Mets were 2-10 with runners in
scoring position and left seven men on base.
Granderson had a stolen base and Flores was picked off.
Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Nick
Markakis had two hits and Freddie Freeman had a hit. A.J. Pierzynski had two hits, Andrelton
Simmons had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Jace Peterson had an
RBI. Simmons hit a double and Markakis
hit a double. The Braves were 2-6 with
runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Pierzynski was caught stealing and Teheran
had a pickoff.
In the bottom of the first Murphy
hit a three run double to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. In the second Simmons hit an RBI double to
cut the lead to 3-1 and in the fourth Simmons hit an RBI single to cut it to
3-2. Peterson hit a sac fly to tie the
game at three in the fourth. Campbell
had an RBI walk in the fifth to give the Mets a 4-3 lead and in the seventh
they scored their last two runs to make it 6-3 which would be the final
score. Cuddyer hit an RBI forceout and
Murphy hit an RBI single.
The Mets completed their ten game
homestand with a perfect 10-0 record and tied the franchise record for most
wins in a row at 11. They will now head
to the Bronx to face their crosstown rivals the New York Yankees on Friday night and then play
again Saturday afternoon and Sunday night.
