The New York Yankees are swept in Washington and end miserable road trip



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 3-2.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and pitched well, pitching into the seventh inning for the second straight game.  The Yankees offense for the third time on this trip scored two runs in the first and then didn't score again. 

Warren pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out four and took his third loss of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Esmil Rogers pitched an inning walking one and striking out two. 

Jordan Zimmerman won his fourth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Matt Grace pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout and Drew Storen earned his 12th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out two batters. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Chase Headley had a hit and Didi Gregorius had two hits.  Beltran hit a double and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Headley committed an error and McCann had a pickoff. 

Denard Span had two hits and an RBI, Ian Desmond had a hit and an RBI and Yunel Escobar drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman drew two walks, Tyler Moore had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Danny Espinosa had a hit.  Desmond and Moore each hit a homerun and the Nationals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Zimmerman had a stolen base and Span was picked off. 

In the first Beltran hit an RBI double and McCann hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Desmond hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1.  Moore hit a solo homerun in the fourth that tied the game at two.  In the seventh Span hit an RBI single to give the Nats a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost both games in Washington and were 2-7 on their road trip.  They had a three game lead in the division and are now tied for first with the Tampa Bay Rays.  The Yankees will have the day off on Thursday and then begin a three game series at home with the Texas Rangers.
