The New York Yankees defeated the
Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. The
game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was
8-6. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees
and he pitched very well and then ran out of the gas in the seventh and his
final line didn't look so great. Andrew
Miller and Aroldis Chapman were great in relief though to close the door. Alex Rodriguez and Starlin Castro each had
three hits to lead the offense.
Nova pitched 6+ innings giving up
seven hits and five runs with two walks and six strikeouts. He won his fourth game of the season. Nick Goody faced one batter giving up a hit
and one run was charged to him, Miller pitched two perfect innings with a
couple of strikeouts and Chapman pitched an inning giving up a walk and he
struck out one and earned his ninth save of the season.
Tyler Wilson pitched four innings
giving up seven hits and five runs with no walks and a strikeout. He lost his fifth game of the season. Dylan Bundy pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up
five hits and two runs with three strikeouts.
Brian Duensing pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out
one and Vance Worley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a
run.
Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Brett
Gardner had two hits and Carlos Beltran had a hit. Aaron Hicks had a hit, Rodriguez had three
hits and an RBI and Castro had three hits and two RBI. Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Chase
Headley had a hit and Rob Refsnyder had a hit and an RBI. Austin Romine had a hit and two RBI, Headley,
Castro, Refsnyder and Hicks each hit a double and the Yankees were 5-12 with
runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Ellsbury and Gardner each had a stolen base
and Romine had a passed ball.
Adam Jones had a hit, three RBI and
drew a walk, Hyun Soo Kim had a hit and Manny Machado had a hit. Mark Trumbo had a hit and an RBI, Matt
Wieters had a hit and drew a walk and Pedro Alvarez had a hit and two RBI. Jonathan Schoop had a hit, Ryan Flaherty had
a hit and drew a walk and Kim hit a double.
Trumbo, Alvarez and Jones each hit a homerun and the Orioles were 1-6
with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
In the third Romine hit a sac fly
to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead, in the fourth Castro hit an RBI double to extend the lead to
2-0. Gregorius hit an RBI groundout in
the fourth to push the lead to 3-0 and Refsnyder hit an RBI double making it
4-0 Yankees. Romine hit an RBI single to
extend it to 5-0 still in the fourth inning.
In the fifth Castro hit an RBI single and it was 6-0 Yankees. A double steal including a steal of home by
Ellsbury made it 7-0 in the sixth. In
the seventh the Orioles would score six runs to cut the lead to one. Trumbo hit a solo homerun, Alvarez hit a two
run homerun and Jones hit a three run homerun.
Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the ninth to give the Yankees an
insurance run and make it 8-6 which would be the final score.
The two teams have split the first
two games of the series and the rubber game is scheduled for Sunday
afternoon. There is some expected bad
weather so the game may not get in but we will see before the Yankees return
home for four games against the Angels beginning on Monday night.
