New York Yankees lose third straight game in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 4-3.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched pretty well but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead late.  Mark Teixeira led the offense with two hits. 

Pineda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs with no walks and two strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Tyler Clippard pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Clippard lost his sixth game of the season and blew his third save of the season. 

Marco Estrada pitched seven innings giving up four htis and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Joaquin Benoit pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Roberto Osuna pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs and he blew his fourth save of the season but won his third game of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI and Teixeira had two hits.  Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk, Billy Butler had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit.  Mason Williams had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Ronald Torreyes had an RBI and Teixeira and Gardner each hit a double.  Gregorius hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Young Jr. had a stolen base, Clippard committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Devon Travis drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew two walks and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and an RBI.  Jose Bautista had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks, Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and Michael Saunders had a hit.  Melvin Upton Jr. drew a walk, Kevin Pillar had a hit and Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and an RBI.  Donaldson hit a double, Bautista hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Donaldson and Pompey each had a stolen base. 

In the fourth Bautista hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Gregorius hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Bautista hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 2-1 lead and in the ninth Williams hit an RBI single to tie the game at two and Torreyes hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Carrera hit an RBI bunt single to tie the game at three and Encarnacion hit an RBI walk-off single to win the game 4-3 for the Jays. 

The Yankees have lost four games in a row overall and three straight to the Jays.  The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Monday night.
