The New York Yankees defeated the
Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 7-5. Lance Lynn started for the
Yankees and he started out bad but turned it around and the bullpen was
good. Giancarlo Stanton and Miguel
Andujar led the offense with two hits each.
Lynn pitched four innings giving up
six hits and five runs with three walks and five strikeouts. Chad Green picked up his sixth win of the
season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and he struck out one and David
Robertson earned his third save of the season pitching a perfect inning with
two strikeouts.
Marcus Stroman pitched four innings
giving up six hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Joe Biagini pitched 2/3 of an inning giving
up a hit and a run with a walk and he lost his seventh game of the season, Tim
Mayza pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and Luis Santos pitched 1/3 of
an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Stanton
had two hits and an RBI and Aaron Hicks drew two walks. Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Andujar
had two hits and an RBI and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI. Greg Bird drew a walk, Neil Walker had a hit
and three RBI and Andujar and Torres each hit a double. Gregorius hit a triple and Walker and Stanton
each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-5
with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
Curtis Granderson had a hit and
drew a walk, Devon Travis had a hit and an RBI and Justin Smoak drew a walk. Kendrys Morales had two hits and an RBI,
Russell Martin had a hit and Kevin Pillar had a hit and an RBI. Randal Grichuk drew a walk, Aledmys Diaz had
a hit and two RBI and Granderson hit a double.
The Blue Jays were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left four
men on base.
In the first Morales hit an RBI
single, Pillar hit an RBI single and Diaz hit a two-run single to give the Blue
Jays a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the
first Gregorius hit an RBI triple and Andujar hit an RBI double to cut the lead
to 4-2. In the fourth Walker hit a
three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 5-4 lead. In the fifth Travis hit an RBI single to tie
the game at five. In the bottom of the
fifth Torres hit into a force out and a run scored to give the Yankees a 6-5
lead. In the seventh Stanton hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 7-5 lead and that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Saturday afternoon.
